The Black Flame Candle.

Yep. I was hoping some detail would jump out that was traceable. With the things that look like mountains, I almost thought it looked ASIAN. But that may be my imagination.

I’ve been trying to replicate the candle as well! Thank you Adam Fails for identifying the artwork the illustration was based on. I’m planning on making it from a flameless candle so I can paint the flame black.

I’m also researching where to get Max’s Zippo lighter engraved. I can vector the logo. The lighter looks more silver in the film but this photo of the original prop shows it’s brass.View attachment 1487742
Any luck with this project? I was thinking of making one my self and have laser engraving and cnc router engraving at my disposal. I haven't sat down to make the vector work yet but looks straight forward.

The candle has kind of always been on the list for me too. I think I can replicate the art on the candle; as my time with book has started to slow down, I think I will turn my attention towards the candle. I will post updates when I can!

I've had zero luck. Other than what has been posted here and it being based on the Temptation of Saint Anthony I'm stumped. + No pics of the original prop exist! I gotta wonder who owns it!

The Black Flame Candle has been on my list for a while. I'm happy to see people still talking about this prop.

My friend and I occasionally do some amateur blacksmithing. One of my next projects was going to be the brazier that holds the Black Flame Candle.

A couple years ago I did a replica of the lighter. Started with a solid brass lighter, made the file, and took it to a local laser engraving shop. Afterward I hit it with some brass black and sanded it until it was to my satisfaction.

Hey everyone! So as a few of you here in so cal know, we just had a Halloween event in which some of the Hocus Pocus cast and props were available for viewing. One of which was the Black Flame Candle! Here are some of the photos I was able to gather from others while at the event:

As you can see upon closer inspection this clearly just isn’t the candle we have so many blurry photos of from the first film. I am not sure where this version of this candle is seen, but many clearly have settled on this art. Mind you, this was on display in the museum with the rest of the props from the film. Additionally, I believe, many of the props seen in there were actually from the 2nd film and not the first, as a few were labeled. I don’t recall if we see the BFC with all the fancy art in the 2nd film, I think the girls were tricked in to lighting the BFC, but I felt it important to report my findings nonetheless.

I was hopeful when I saw your posted pictures, and then sad when it was revealed that they are not show correct. Probably just production made and never used on screen.

Ah, well it seems the mystery is solved as to where the candle I posted above has come from. I had found an explanation:

"Black Flame Candle concept prop created by 'Hocus Pocus' creator/producer, David Kirschner. This prop was displayed during the pitch meeting at The Walt Disney Studios in order to sell the film. Currently on loan courtesy of David Kirschner."

So there you have it, it was during the pitch, which makes this very cool, but not what we were looking for. Hope it is still a fun find for everyone.

BAAH!!! Such a bummer!!! There has to be SOMEONE who knows what the original art is or where the original prop resides! There can't possible only be the pics from the film!

Also ReplicaZero I was also there with my two dogs! I had no idea there was a museum though!

Hi, I did some research on Saint Anthony, and I wonder if the production of the film did not have several engravings representing the Saint Anthony's temptations.
I wonder if the wing that we see is not that of the dragon here in blue and yellow the ¨clouds¨ tell me what you think ;)

Funny story, I cold emailed one of the women who worked on props for the first Hocus Pocus film (Laura Molina) and she replied saying she and her partner were the ones who did the 3 Black Flame Candles that were used in production. She even offered to hop on a Facetime to answer questions and round up some old personal photos that might help. How cool is that?!

And, what? The conversation ended there? You didn't take it up?! Say, yes, and ask for as many photo scans (as gently) as possible!

Haha I asked to set up a FaceTime but she must’ve gotten busy because I didn’t get a reply after that. Personally I was way more interested in the spell book than Black Flame Candle, so I didn’t follow up, but I’m sure with a few nudges she would still be open to it. I think someone else on the forum has reached out to her now though.

Hello friends, so does anyone have any new information? If not, could anyone contact this lady so that I can have information on the candle? THANKS
