The Best Movies Ever - Worth Watching!!!

Each has its own film rating ... Good, the Bad and the Ugly 12th place because I liked the ones in front of him ..
And The Shawshank Redemption one place that is the biggest film in my opinion - very simple - each with its rating
My list consists of good movies are arranged according to personal taste and quality of the film.
The title as I said in previous comments correctly - people who make a list make it according to their own opinions, no determination regarding the best movie - Everyone has different opinions :)

:) You wanted comments.... :)

That IMDB list sucks! Come on, most of the movies are from the past few years, there are hardly any real classics on there. Where is Ghostbusters (1&2), the Indiana Jones series, Star Wars, or any other movie that isn't all CGI?

And this is why the thread/list title is misleading. :rolleyes

It's not really "The Best Movies Ever"...it's the best movies that the list author has seen. :wacko

I made the list, then it is clear that whatever is there will be to my taste and my opinion and of course I saw these movies .. It seems ridiculous to me to prepare a list of movies with movies you have not seen except for a list of movies you're going to see ... You again get confused - there is no determination as to who best movie - everyone thinks something else - when you see it you'll understand the title correctly :)

I think it is obvious that when ever a list of "best of" or "worst of" is made or released it is the opinion of the one who makes the list. How can anyone make a best of movies list with movies they have not seen. Could anyone do that? its impossible. it will always be the opinion of the person making the list. Or the opinions of the people who have voted for the movies. No one can ever say what the best movies are ever, it is always just their opinion. So why be so fussy about the title of the thread. its a generalization so what.

You again get confused -

Because the title of this thread is confusing.

You really need to change the title to something like "My favourite movies." Or you are just going to keep getting people replying that the list doesn't have "this" movie or "that" movie, or the order of films doesn't make sense etc.

Seriously.

Thanks, but I'm not the one confused in this. I think you are, as you fail to see why you're getting the comments that have been posted.

A number of people have said in the thread that they don't get how this list is a list of "the best movies ever." As you explained earlier, this is a list of "the best movies you have ever seen." But by looking at the title, people don't know that...and are misled. Not everyone reads every post before replying.

Please explain where, in the below post (by you, that kicked off this thread) how ANYONE would know that these are only movies you have seen? Heck, people probably think you hate Star Wars, Raiders, etc. because they are not on the list...and they don't know you haven't seen them yet.

And thus the confusion abounds.

I see no need to mention the title I was watching these movies because of two things:
Of course, watching them - I made the list.
there is no determination as to who best movie - everyone thinks something else - when you see it you'll understand the title correctly :)
you can agree with my list or not- If you think I should add some movies I'd love to get recommendations for movies :)

oh, I completely didn't read the OP, I thought it was a voted list :p everyones entitled to their opinion ;)
Still, it is weird that Shawshank is so liked by everyone :p (even me)

I'll tell you why people are getting more confused than angry at the thread title. A poorly informed opinion is a bad (read that as less-valued or worthless) opinion.

And such things as having I Am Legend put over Last Man On Earth or things like Armageddon and Click but no Forbidden Planet or Planet of the Apes strongly imply that is the case here if it was a BEST OF ALL TIME list.

However, that's totally not the case if it's a "My 138 Favorite Movies" list.

All because you used a declarative statement with no qualifier. Takes 2 seconds to edit it man. This place is full of literalists and grammarphiles who will point by point argue you into the ground on this.

Just trying to point the easy way out here...

EDIT: On the positive side I'm sure you've gotten lots of cool recommendations because of it.

I'll throw in:

Zulu
Escape From New York
The Thing
They Live
Omega Man

etc.

thedarkknight1 I suggest an experiment for you-
For the next 6 months you don't watch a movie made after 1980. For every 4 movies you watch - 1 has to be subtitled. You don't watch a TV show made after 1985. You don't watch a Cartoon made after 1976. See how that opens up your mind.
Remarkably Netflix can help there.
Laffo.

I don't think one can really appreciate a film without seeing it in the context of the time it was made.

Most people who watch Star Wars for the first time today, go, meh!
I couldn't agree more. And a movie like Star Wars is a good example--it's virtually impossible for people who weren't alive when Star Wars first hit the theaters to understand the impact it had.

Another example would be James Whale's Frankenstein. Many of us on this forum grew up seeing Frankenstein's monster in one incarnation or another (the movies on tv, comedic effect in The Munsters, advertising, stills in Famous Monsters of Filmland, etc.) and have become so familiar with it that it's difficult to imagine audiences in 1931 finding Jack Pierce's makeup to be so horrific that women fainted and people actually left the theaters because of it, especially since most of us have seen things that are far gorier, more graphic, and more horrific in modern films.

These lists will always be more than just a bit askew. That being said.... "Training Day"??? Really? That Denzel won an Oscar for this was a joke. Then Richard Gere should have won an Oscar for Internal Affairs, which was a much better movie. Don't even get me started on Shutter Island.
