The bag..........(gotg)

well.....all the samples weren't up to par.......so I ordered lambskin instead. 9+8= 17 sq feet of it........and it's specifically dark chocolate brown. almost black. dye should be here soon. And I placed my order for the strap blanks...1", 2" and a 3" for the shoulder pad. Waiting on a shipping quote because they're coming from england......... as soon as everything arrives I'll be back to work on the other 2.........

Over all it will be a better quality bag and lighter as well......and after reviewing the movie yet again.....i've concluded that the stain for the strap is coffee brown. That would kinda make sense as the bag is chocolate brown.......(think chocolate covered coffee bean)......

Keep watching!!!

I've watched the movie 25 times already and i can tell you probably did the same and or more!!! :) Looking forward to your progress. I am building the 3D printed MDR-5a headphones as of current. So many freaking must have parts to this costume!!!! Keep on building.

We have lamb! with another pelt on the way. Dye is here as well.....this stuff is suuuuuper thin, should help speed up the sewing process. And also not jam in the machine and shatter needles. Straps in route.

TTFN folks!!!

here are the blanks.......

getting ready to stain......

and the first test......a lil heavy handed but ill go to the store and buy some brushes that will work better.....

it actually has a reddish brown hue in sunlight.......

the camera just sucks.......

update time.....

first is all the stain tests.......the small strap up top is the original heavy handed. the large strap on the bottom, to the left is what the applicator does in one pass. To the right i decided to bust out the ol airbrush..........the stain's are relatively thin so they work very well atomized.

Up close shot.......

aaaaaaand........almost done....

sweet.....making progress......more hardware on the way. just made a bulk purchase.....

UPDATE-3/3/15

ok.....here we go......

First is something that I don't think I covered.......the idea came from a baseball cap. The cardboard in the brim. For the trapezoid pieces I used 2 layers of 110lb card stock. Cut them out accordingly. A nice coat of spray adhesive. Sandwich together. Then a heavy ass book to lay on top for 30min. They come out nice and stiff for wrapping the fabric.....

trying to get everything done for 2 before final assembly......

What I did here was cut little slits around the corners to round out the folding. A little super glue gel. Then used those paper clips to keep everything in place until the glue sets.......

A closer shot of the dark chocolate brown leather......

All clipped together.....

Had to buy an organizer for all the dammed hardware I got in the mail last week.....

Another angle......

Well that's it for now. I am currently in the process of retiring from the kitchen so I'll have more free time for this and eventually going back to school. Should have these two ready in a week or two.......then more fabric and leather.......and dye..................

and straps.............

and........

never mind......

Ok.....now that full time went to part time.....I'll have plenty of time for y'all.......As of now my process of retiring from the kitchen has begun.(shoulda happened a long time ago)

here's a few pics of production. The only thing that's killing me is the strap company. They lag. And i'm not paying tandy's price either.......cost is just as much. But I did find a U.S. distributor........waiting on an email from them. I gotta go back to cow as well. Lamb is soft......a little too soft. But it is beautiful to work with. You just hafta be gentile. About to place another order for fabric this monday teusday......3 sets worth. Leather, rings, dye are already on its way. Around 30 sq. ft. of leather. Super thin...1mm....1.2mm average. But sturdy. Colombian Chocolate is the stain........Rings.......5 sets worth. Having fam in florida helped me find a scuba gear shop. All correct sizes.........Oh! and i'm placing an order for 100 accurate 1.5" d-rings, finally found em..........

So, with that out of the way........here we go.......

the single layer flap, stitched.....

were all lined and sewn.....

Almost all there!!!.......buckle weathered and sealed.....more cord in the back over there.....the soon to be full as Uck bin.......

just add water....err sweat and they multiply!! that's like 1000 yards of chocolate brown nylon back there........

I'll contact the first two here in a week or so....I hope that U.S. company ships fast......

then Crank and Rgh next.......
