the absolute BEST Star Trek tunics ?

With so many debates going on over the tinyest details, I can see why so few vendors make these tunics. By the time some customers decide which version they want, the suppliers have changed jobs.

Here is a shot of my Adam shirt. Don't know if this helps, maybe it's just showing off. The quality is just stunning. Too bad these aren't made any more.

Still digging for my cage costume.

Yes it is. Every seam is exacally where it apeers in all of the Kirk shots we've seen in this thread. I kick myself for not getting a pair of pants, They were to die for.

Dave ,
Don't let the topic disapear and just keep the fires burning for me, as I've got to deploy :unsure for a couple of weeks. See ya all 'bout the middle of June.

Steve,
I'm hoping to save enough per deim for a tunic and shirt. :p

Orders are starting to come in for "Cage" tunics, so I added a listing for other interested parties...

Hey, I just saw you are selling men's TOS pants. Do you have any pics? Did you find any sparkly black fabric?

is there a preference on how you like your braids sewed onto your tunic?

braid_sew.jpg

follow the actual braid, or sew it right down the center ?

No one has ordered any TOS pants, so I haven't bothered to track down a fabric for them yet.

I was watching "The Corbomite Manouver" last night, and I noticed a few things I wanted to mention. Remember, this was the first regularly filmed episode, so all of the costumes on the main and secondary characters were utterly new, fresh out of the costume shop.

First, the Kirk braid is of the "close" variety. Meaning that this is the original state of the braid. No shrinkage involved. It was meant to look like that.

Second, we've noted that Spock had a higher collar than anyone else this episode. But I noticed that almost all of the male actors have higher collars than normal. Kirk is the exception, that apparantly later becomes the standard.

Third, in the scene where they're waiting for the countdown on the bridge, McCoy steps out of the bridge in his velour tunic. When Baily has his outburst, he's suddenly wearing his medical smock from earlier in the episode. A moment later, he's back in his velour. Where's a continuity person when you need one? lol

After being contacted by several members of the 1701st, I now have a clear picture of what transpired there, and what drove its members to come to us for help in getting the uniforms they've been wanting for so long. Let me say that regardless of what the 1701st club "management" may want, its members are welcome to order their uniforms from us, to whatever specs THEY decide are appropriate. We will do our best to faithfully reproduce whatever style or era of uniform they might want, without having to wait for "management" to approve their decision, or waiting for samples of a "cheaper" version to be sent from an overseas sweatshop.

Come one, come all...

Good eye GM. Good eye. :D

One exception to the "fresh costumes" rule, are the background players who are wearing costumes from the pilot episodes, with or without the black collar added.

And yes Spock's collar is never higher than in "Corbomite", tho he sports the ascot for several more episodes (I think it was intentional, to denote his "alien-ness")

corbomite-suluzipper.jpg

There's no explaining why Sulu's collar is so huge tho.

cm-kirklowcollar.jpg

Shatner has a "low" collar in most of the early episodes, but I think he's rolling it under, sometimes. Shatner has a fairly short neck, he might be trying to make it look longer (compare with "Wrath of Khan", where he has the tall puffy collar... in the WOK outfit he sometimes looks like a Pez dispenser)

CM-kirkbraid.jpg

And yes I definitely think the tight braid was intentional, and it was loosened up over time. THOSE dashes are about one "S-shape" thickness apart.

The insignia placement, high on the chest, is probably intentional too. The tip points off to the right tho, towards the middle of the shoulder. The badges point left and right for a few episodes until they decide on keeping the emblem straight up-and-down.

Rare behind the scenes shot from "The Deadly Years". The tunics may have been made new for the episode; one of the subtle effects of the "aging" makeups was to put the actors into baggier clothes.

Here's Kirk looking baggy.

Meanwhile back to Corbomite... ironically when we first see Kirk, he has his shirt off. And he keeps it off for several scenes. :lol

Finally when he gets to the privacy of his quarters, he puts the damn shirt on.. :rolleyes

Tho we don't actually see him do it, the implication is that he pulls it over his head. And immediately he tucks the collar down.

corbomite_kirkshirton.jpg

Tightest braid in Starfleet... :rolleyes

And everybody's rank stripes are looking nice and fresh, bright shiny GOLD...

corbomite_kirktuckcollar.jpg

The corridor is full of extras with lieutenants' stripes, and thick collars... this guy looks like a Mego action figure.

corbomite_lt.mego.jpg

Very loose velour here... no shrinkage yet.

corbomite_ltfemale.jpg

Spock's blue is looking fairly luminous when the light hits it just right... McCoy's duty tunic has a sheen to it as well.

corbomite_kirkturn.jpg

Also worth noting that Kirk's collar material (in that last pic) seems to have no texture at all.

When you do see collar texture, it usually seems to be horizontal, as in Spock's collar in "Omega Glory"

OG_spockcollarmaterial.jpg

Chekov has unusual vertical texture in his collar, in this shot from "Spock's Brain"

GM-

Dont get me started on 1701st managment ... :love

Anyway...wondered about your cage pants. In the Cage they are more a charcoal color vs black of the series. They are also a bit longer, and have a definate crease .....any details on yours?

Best

PM'd you, but I'll repeat it here for others. Yes, the cage pants were more of a charcoal than a black. There isn't a "pleat", but in some shots, the pants were pressed with a crease. Definitely not a pintuck sewn crease, though. You can see that it disappears after being worn for a few hours. And we can adjust the length to suit anyone's preference. just give us a measurement of how long you want the inseam/finished length to be.
