Thought I'd share what I've been up to recently.
I'm not experienced with leather work at all.. I've only made one other thing using leather and that was the long pouch for my ANH farmboy luke costume that was well.. a poor effort. Works well enough but the stitchwork was awful.
Been trying to learn and get a bit better at it.
First up is my Cad Bane satchel. I am doing a costume, although other priorities have come up so that's progressing slowly.
First up I made a card pattern
Once the pattern was done I used it to cut the pattern out of leather. I wanted the leather to be quite thin for this one.
Edges wetted to fold and then left in a corner to dry off.
Other pieces cut and shaped. I did since change the belt loops as I decided those were far too thin
After dying and ready for stitching. Now I messed up a little here in my inexperience and basically had no leeway to do a nice stitch without distorting the satchel and as the char's bag is perfectly rectangular I had to improvise. What I did is cut 2 strips that sit at right angles inside the bag and each edge is stitched to that. Means I can do a proper saddle stitch nice and tight but retain a nice sharp edge.
aaannnd done.. well, nearly. I hadn't attached the darker accent pieces in this pic, just laid them in place but you get the idea
Whilst I was at it I made myself an insert to allow me to store my phone and wallet in there if I so wish without it falling to the bottom of the bag.
This was my 2nd effort and as you can see it's not perfect. Stitch allowance issues with the pattern and lacking in stitching knowledge meant the stitch was a little messy (I now know the whole over-under technique to make the stitch uniform) but the stitching is not visible whilst wearing it so I'm happy
next up.. sniper ammo pouch
I made this as a friend was interested in doing a TF2 costume as its his favourite game. I said I'd do one as well and do a sniper (started on the rifle and main costume)
This one went a lot easier.

and voila
the snipers pouch is quite worn with no shine so I decided to keep it that way and not wax it. I also stitched in one continuous stitch so you get a nice constant stitch through-out the length of the pouch.
very happy with this.
next up.. pyro pouch
this was made for a friend. a little different than the others.
no pics of the pattern or pre-dying unfortunately.. forgot
but it was made in the same way as the sniper pouch

as you can see it has much more of a sheen on it from the wax just like the characters.
he wanted to be able to possibly hide the belt buckle inside it or use a clip so instead of doing the usual belt loops I just created some slits to allow him to do whatever suited him.
this one was my most 'polished' effort but not without it's faults. i somehow managing to veer off when doing my stitch marks by a couple of mm and as such its ever so slightly warped. it's not noticeable by anyone but myself but i know its not 'perfect' which bugs me, heh. Also I made a school boy error when I was making the stitch holes and managed to mark the leather with my nail in a few places.. must be more careful.
my friend was happy, the marks add character and weathering.. fair enough..
