Terra Nova?

This episode reminded me of Pitch Black. The premise still fascinates me and I enjoy the FX as well. The characters have potential, though the situations are pretty contrived, I enjoy the actors portraying them, for the most part.

I'm not intrigued by amnesia plots either... and it does give me concern. While the premise is interesting, the goal of Terra Nova is more Star Trek than Lost - meaning, they are just meant to explore and build, not to do something we want to see them get closer to accomplishing every week. ( 'get off the island/discover why the island is important/why are they here')

The Sixers plot and the missing son are interesting mysteries, but what are they going to do with this show, a new monster/new disease of the week?

It's very fun, I'm just hoping they find something to do with what they've started that works long term because I WANT it to do well.

I don't really see much similarity to Lost at all. I think people are really stretching, there.

As for Terrible Nova, I got bored halfway through episode three, so I won't be watching the next one.

Geez last nights episode blew chunks. Next weeks episode with a amnesia virus is a cliche of every scifi show ever made.

Last nights episode with old lover getting girl of his dreams in to the program when the hubby is in jail only to find that the hubby came along after all was predictable and unnecessary.

I give a show 3 fails until I turn to something different. Terra nova currently has 2. Unless the amnesia episode features George Takei or Amanda Tapping with blonde hair or questionable television as close as you can get nudity it is sure to fail as well. :D

Moody people are always deleting posts, or asking that their posts be deleted because of some imagined insult, or just apathy to what they perceive as a fabulously interesting piece of internet gold. It is common on most forums all over the internet; but still childish and dopey behavior. Get back on the meds. Jeez!

The writing and vibe of the show strongly reminds me of Seaquest DSV which was also a big prime time show when it launched (and petered out.)

There's just no 'grit' on this show. It's like an ABC family series but with a bigger budget. It's written for the lowest common denominator.

I kept hoping somebody would pull out a tennis racket (the one guy made a guitar after all) and swat a couple of the stupid birds.

And when that jeep thing came back, it should have been covered in bird poop... and goodness knows what else. THAT would have been funny... the guy gets out of the jeep and says "I got slimed" :p

Well all I have to say about last nights poor excuse of an Episode is YIKES!!

About that - how stupid is it to be traveling at night, in the rain WITHOUT DOORS!

Is this taking place in a timeline where Jurassic Park was never made?

:behave

Also, to not think about flying predators and have a defense set up ahead of time just seemed stupid as well. It was like - oh, yeah, some dinos fly, now what?

There are lots of problems, but I still want it to do well. :D

That's what I kept telling my wife! "Why isn't anyone batting these things down when it comes to them?" That and "No one thought to bring a shotgun?"

The explanation in the show was that they found 1000's of broken eggs on the ground that made the ground soft and fertile so they built on top of it.

Why do I get the feeling that Braga is sitting back grinning because he can recycle a bunch of ideas he already used in star trek.

The fact that I actually like the interactions between the family and with Taylor compared to the craptasticness of the rest of the writing really shows the talent of the actors. There's absolutely no logic in the military/security people on the show.

Going back to driving around at night, in the rain, in a vehicle with no doors... did we not establish in the last episode that the 'Slashers' hunt primarily at night?! UGH!

The old boyfriend subplot had me wanting to thunk my head down on my desk. I could live with them introducing it if they'd actually set this up at all in the first episode, but they didn't and it felt really contrived and tacked on for the sake of drama.

Unfortunately, I'm only watching at this point because I really like the dad and Taylor, but I don't see that sustaining my interest for longer than a couple more episodes if they don't get the writing in hand.

Also, as an aside, when the credits on the first episode started and my husband saw that Brannon Bragga is involved, he threw back his head and yelled "Brannon Braga?! No!!! This show is doomed!" Alas, I fear he may be right. :unsure

Hopefully one day the last laugh will be on him when no one will touch him with a ten foot pole.

What a talentless 4th rate hack

Yeah, Amber Heard in a bunny outfit... man, how can you mess that up? But I had a hard time watching it. It was just boring.

I just watched the Pan Am pilot on Hulu. It was okay. It was better than the Playboy Club but I've still gotta wonder where they're going with it. TV series set in any kind of non-current environment are expensive anyway but that PanAm pilot had some pretty extensive CGI for a drama.

I can't imagine they can afford that for long without pretty stellar ratings. I love Christina Ricci tho so I may check out a couple of episodes and see how it does assuming it doesn't get cancelled as fast as the Playboy Club, that is.

So far, I haven't been impressed with any of the new shows I've seen. I'm just glad to have Supernatural back with new episodes.

Sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere, but has anyone considered the long term viability of terra nova? I mean, isn't it thought that a large meteor colliding with the earth may have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs?

Then again, maybe they'll use their "separate timeline" / parallel universe excuse to get around this one...

Just sayin'... ;)

I've thought about this as well. Even if it's a parallel world, how do we know this still does/doesn't happen?

Well, considering that the TK event occurred about 65 million years ago and TN is supposed to have taken them back 85 million years, even if it IS the same timeline, they've got a good 20 million year buffer.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that they're saying it's NOT the same timeline, so they have no idea what sort of catastrophes they could be facing.
