Terra Nova?

Can do - build time shift machine to send people back to Jurassic Park

Can't do - fix pollution, build a gun that kills dinosaurs.

The impression I got wasn't they built a time machine, but they discovered a rip in time to an alternate universe and couldn't control the fact it was 85 million years ago.

They just tried to take advantage of that anomaly.

I hope they explain the portal (or whatever you want to call it) is in fact a two-way rift. If it's one-way without no way knowing what happens on the other side, how did they know it's 85 million years into the past, or an alternate timeline, or Sgt. Avatar ;) made it through okay. If it's ONLY one way with no one knowing what happens after the fact, it would seem pretty futile to spend tr/billions of Obama bucks :lol just to through a bunch of people and equipment through not really knowing what happens.

Maybe the rift is like the stargate; travel is only possible in direction of origin, but electronic communication is bi-directional. That would allow people on the "current earth" side to know that the people made it through, in one piece.

Mostly though, it's just a mash-up of Lost and Avatar. But since it's on Fox, it'll be cancelled before anything gets explained.

Re: Communicating with the Future - thought similar when the Leader guy had the dossier on the escaped con/cop husband. Since it is a different "time stream" they couldn't even pull a "Bill and Ted" by just putting stuff in a lock box whenever they needed the future to know stuff.

And those bad-ass machine guns that they use should be shredding those dinosaurs, not just chasing them away.

I *THINK* the guns they were shooting towards the Dinos at the end were actually tranq guns. I thought I heard Taylor say a line about aim for the undersides, the tranq darts aren't strong enough to penetrate their skin. And they did shoot different than when the kids were in the car firing.

Terra Nova Pilot review - for Lost fans: >>clip<<

Loved every word of that!! Yep, LOST written all over it!!

And same thing I thought of LOST, a little mystery and intrigue is a good thing, but
to be swallowed up in a great hooey of unexplainable events just for the sake of
having a great many unexplainable events is unimaginative and boring.

If there are multiple time lines, which the writers have established they are with
the probe thing, and all those time lines proceed to their inevitable ends, then the
person who is the person "who controls the past controls the future" can at best hope
to move him/her self into a better time line--if that is possible if every time line
proceeds to it's inevitable end.

I LOVE the time travel paradox!!

So the probe was supposed to be found in the present..but the fact that they have it sitting in the middle of the open makes it very possible that it will end up destroyed in some conflict. It's mere presence on earth would have altered history. Ancient civilizations could have worshipped it..and that would change to course of history.

I think she said of the probe on display in Terra Nova that it was the one that was sent through the portal and the fact that it never showed up in the present--in 2149--was proof that where ever the probe went to back in time was not on the same time line as the time line that had lead to where they were in 2149. So no matter what happened in Terra Nova, it would not effect where they came from in 2149 because it was two different time lines. I think.....??

What was it she said about how it was determined it was 85 million years in the past? I forgot that part already.

Shylaah

But that only proves that 85million years later there is no probe...who knows what can happen to a probe in 85 million years? I'd be very surprised if it WAS trackable 85 million years later. Regardless..the ppl of Terra Nova should be building an underground bunker and predefined exact co-ordinates so that IF they are in the same universe..it WILL be found later. It shouldn't be out in the open to be stolen, destroyed or vandalized..which is already happening.

I liked the presentation, the way they dropped little clues here and there instead of explaining every little thing.

I didnt like the 30 something teenagers and the "mysterious" rogue settlers that arent so mysterious with the cryptic non climatic explanation of who they are!

Why dont we let shows run their course?

Im not sure if I will go back. Too much drama, this is for Gossip Girls and the new 90210 crowd.

:thumbsdown

Someone brought to my attendtion Jim Shannon asked Taylor at one point about the Sixers why Taylor didn't alert Earth back home, and Taylor replied he doesn't know who to trust over there.

So apparently communication IS possible, just don't know how easy they can communicate.

So far I am unimpressed. I'm tired of the family values science-fiction thing that seems to be all they can do on TV nowadays. Earth 2 did it, Falling Skies is doing it, enough already.

Nitpicks:
I am not impressed with the guy who played Colonel Cliche in Avatar.
I am sick of the rebel teen as well.
Can't any parents in science-fiction shows on TV make sure their kids don't wander away, especially in a place with lots of firearms and dino's and who knows what else?

Just my 2 cents (im poor)...It lost me when the kids went under the fence to a waiting vehicle and then went to drink.....seemed very out of place..... kinda like they needed a way to get the tweens to tune in.....
Ill watch it if they let the teenagers get killed off in a horific attack of dinos....But they really need to stick to one idea (either the defense force is on the ball, and knows how to form a perimeter with green laser lights and tech to see in the dark....or leave them unable to even secure their own wall.....I vote for the first....leave the security force as a top notch team of military types...and add in the struggle of having to have civilians in the mix who dont know enough about fighting....causes a struggle, but still gives good tv...

Good elements are in the show, it is the bad ideas that pull it down. Seeing the family in Terra Nova made me imagine hearing `danger, danger, Will Robinson'. The show is new, so am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, as I did ST:NG which had a rough first year and then soared in the years that followed.
One show I am short selling for death in 12 episodes, The Playboy Club, hello, ebay auctions.

anyone notice the obama money?

Those must be Trillion Dollar Bills. :lol

Those must be Trillion Dollar Bills. :lol

Did people take those back into the past with them?

What the **** are they going to spend it on, and who would accept such a worthless piece of paper? It's only good for toilet paper or kindling in a world of dinosaurs.

Really disappointing second epi. Looks like it was produced in the 80s. The writing is flat and the CGI about the same quality as those made-for-SyFy movies.

I quite liked it for the most part. After the speech from Mr Lang about how humans made a royal hash of it in the future with war and conflict yada yada and Tera Nova is a chance to start over I thought it was going to be a battle with the local dinosaurs, the elements and maybe some extra terrestrials (the strange rock doodles) but no, within half an hour it turns out that a rebel faction has split from the main group and a conflict has already begun.
7 years into a new beginning they've already started bickering and fighting.
When will us pesky humans ever learn huh?
