Here's a quick side by side I just put together.

I agree, the one on the left looks broader and more menacing. Like a bodybuilder Terminator. I do like the revised spinal column and the clavicle joints are a bit much on the old one. But the overall appearance is more menacing. Broad beck too on the old one. Not that I hate the redesign.

Yeah...I know this is kinda a heretical thing to say on this site, but those are going to look identical to 99.9999999% of all audiences. I don't think the new endoskeleton is going to make or break the box office numbers. It looks like a Terminator to me.

I don't like the chest piece redesign, it doesn't fit with the overall aesthetic imo. It also looks a bit less chunky, but that might just be the angle/photo.
Aside from that, it all looks fine to me, and I don't expect or want them to slavishly stick to the original 30 year old design. It's still instantly recognizable, and as cayman shen said, it will look the same to most people. The fact that it's changed so relatively little over this amount of time is a sign that it's a timeless classic design, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved upon and evolved a bit either.

If it ain't broke.....

I see no real purpose for redesign. It doesn't appear to have any significant modifications to warrant it.

It's strange that they would take so many angular elements like the vertebrae and make them rounder, more organic, and then take the fluid shape of the chest/rib piece and make it so angular. It looks and feels a bit like the Cyberdyne logo, but artificial intelligence should be above that kind of ego branding placement.

Don't know why they didn't just grow some skin around the guns too, they are no more alive than the terminators themselves, so it wouldn't have made any difference.

Know what, I've determined that they plan to end this movie with Sarah getting killed, and John no longer exists! Kill the franchise that way, than there will be no need to worry about any more crummy sequels!

Why have Sarah get killed when you can just get rid of Kyle Reese before they do the nasty? I mean, why would anyone pick Jai Courtney over Emilia Clarke?

If they wanted to make a movie, they should have made it where the whole movie is set up from the start to create an elaborate paradox that would put John Conner in a position, that if he were killed, SkyNet would never have been created. They would need to set the stage early on where John Conner is responsible for the creation of SkyNet, but it never becomes sentient and destroys the world.

That's what I hate about franchises like this... hinge everything on a few characters.
Ok, yes John Connor has knowledge of the future because his mom passed it down to him from her experience in T1.
But are you telling me he is the ONLY person after Judgement Day capable of leading a resistance? Come on.... there are too many trainer soldiers, hobby commandos, preppers and survivalists in this country to say that one kid is humanity's savior.

How about Skynet just keeps leaking future tech back in time so that it continually advances itself in the future. Let the humans keep improving on the technology that Skynet relies on.

Bottom line... The Connor family is tired and played out as much as Ellen Ripley.

The whole idea was just to put the franchise in the grave before they kill it any worse...considering this movie is literally killing the original movie.

Well maybe just strategically speaking he is in the right place at the right time. So everyone plays their part, but at the end of the day he utilizes the time machine to ensure his mission succeeds. Endless loop for BOOKOO franchise DOLLARS!

It's only killing the first movie if you let it. I'm a fan of Jims universe not the s$&t that came after his movies. ;)
