Terminator: Genisys

Re: Terminator: Genesis

That title is better than T: Genesis. But if they are going to be jumping between T1 and T2 then naming it TERMINATORS would be even better, like the upcoming video game.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

looks very embarrasing indeed. Arnie in leather pants at his age? geriatric terminators?!

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I actually didn't know that either about the RIP.

Baggy leather pants??

T3 really pushed it in making him look acceptable, and even that one he was wearing a terrible leather jacket and looked past it.

Now he just looks terrible in those baggy leather pants, what is the production doing? are they crazy?!

His best look since his return to acting was in Escape Plan, grey hair and beard, that type of look suits him these days.

I hope i'm proved wrong when the movie comes out but not holding much hope!

Re: Terminator: Genesis

They know Arnold is too old to be plopped back into the leather outfit and passed off as a scary powerful T-800-series model again.

For the T:Salvation CGI cameo they used a 1984 model of his face, not a more recent one or even one from T2 or T3. They gave him his 1984 body size and his 1984 hair. They showed complete awareness that the 1984 version of Arnold does not look like the current one and it's the 1984 version that is scary.

Could they do a geriatric looking T-800 model, as a stealth infiltration kind of deal? I suppose it's possible. But I'm sure it would be a self-aware kind of thing, not just a "change the model number and continue on like before" the way they did in T3. And even if they do some amount of this, I still don't see them building the main portion of the movie around the image of geriatric Arnold kicking ass. Arnold himself might always wish he could continue on with the role like he did from T1-T3 but other people are writing the checks for these movies.

Bad writing out of the gate if that's how they're going about all this. The Arnold model is not the focal point of these stories, is it? The story at its core is about machines taking over and humans fighting back. Even the Connor part of the story doesn't necessarily need to be there. If he never existed who's to say someone else wouldn't have stepped up. Nobody can know that. That was actually one of the redeeming things about T:S.... there were doubters. Referring to him as a false prophet.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

One thing I think we can count on for sure is some time travel. I'd imagine that what we'll see is that Arnold is playing a human his true role in the development of the T-101 revealed. Because both Sara Conner is so much younger, I'd bet that's where we'll see the time travel come into play...or something like that.

And yes, I already know about that dumb testing scene that was cut from T3 where we see Arnold as Sergent Candy...that was dumb...the southern accent was worse...lol...

Rant mode on:

Ive stated over and over before about whats missing yet 100% still visible in TS is the actual story and plot. John Connor Jr is the savior, not the John Connor we see in the films. Even in the initial teaser TS trailer Kate Connor was preggers, there are three Marcus' we see (time travel for two of them with the actual arrival still in the film of the main Marcus we follow as he wanders out of the nuclear wreckage naked and confused), the reason technology is 20 years ahead of its time (Marcus' main mission is to upload that info to Skynet which is how he knows where to go and enter and use the computers...) yet it seems everything possible was done to bury the story and plot with what was available in the footage at hand. Ive even posted proof from the initial green lighted script, go back and read it if you like. Ive even got confirmation of scenes filmed by various actors and crew members who also have no idea what the deal is wit the final cut of the film. Its even been documented that Terry Crews physically went after McG after the films final cut and premier as his part was completely cut from the film as Barnes' brother. He was edited down to an extra.

Its also been mentioned yet again about the CGI with Arnold yet that was actually Roland Kickinger they CGI'ed Arnolds face on so they could use Arnolds name in the credits when he doesnt actually appear in a single frame of footage. This is the reason Roland turned down the call for the prior incarnation of the current Terminator film. Roland is still currently much larger than Arnold was in both height and muscle mass. The guy is a giant.

As for the new film, its my understanding that Arnolds T800 will follow the premise that everything organic ages regardless of its natural or fabricated origins. This could possibly mean the "original" T800 thats captured is still captured yet more than one is captured at that happening. This would leave another (or numbers) of Arnold T800's in a stand by state left to age and rot unattended as only the one was needed to send back in time in T2. Time travel being the main story push mower in every Terminator film (even in TS as mentioned above) regardless of how it ill effects prior films. The end date is key as there is no future past the end present when the time machine is destroyed. If that were to come into play, time travel PAST the destruction of the time machine, that would be the result of a new machine uprising and war in which all bets are off. Then anything is possible as the end date of future present is obsolete and a new end date of future present comes into play.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I for one can't wait for story leaks on this one just like the last Terminator so we can find out if it will really be bad or not.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

First film, Arnie as the T-800 has a fairly regular hairstyle and the clothes he stole from the street punk earlier in the film, then during the initial encounter with Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese he gets his eyebrows and hair singed making it more spiked, then later in the second encounter he damages and removes his own eye, so he resorts to wearing the sun glasses. So how come in Terminator 2 and Terminator 3 and now by the looks of it this new movie he straight away dresses in black, and wears shades automatically ?

Good point... and yet another flaw. He basically arrives with the short spikey hair. I think he actually looked cooler before that. He looks more like biker Frankenstein the other way.

Dude you can't compare T2 and T3 :lol

Who's to say prior to the opening of T2 where arnie steps into the biker bar... John taught him that "eyes are the window to the soul", so you should hide your eyes :p
Besides in T2 he really doesn't have time to try and hide all the damage.
T3 - a spoof film and "fan"service :facepalm

Re: Terminator: Genesis

the leather and sunglasses look is the same as Indy's Fedora or Max's leather jacket, fan/brand recognition.

The time travel story for TS I dont believe was ever actually completed due to reshoots around Helena Bonham Carter. She left the film to tend to a death in the family if memory serves. In place of a mass of scenes where things are layed out and explained as well as more T800's (one is hybrid Serena's bodyguard) and the entire hybrid plot that is the reason behind the films name are all but expunged, we got a filler of Serena as a computer program. Roland filmed a mass of fight scenes including ripping apart at least one hybrid scientist. All that footage exists but as mentioned it completely alters the theatrical film making it a cohesive story. The fact Marcus has an itch to go North, knows where Skynet is and how to get in is enough to make even the casual fan realize there is something important missing.

It will be interesting to see how this new film is shot. I hope they dont opt for the movie of the week look of T3 or the "shot in a closet" extreme close up shaky cam cop out.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

They should just make this an all CGI movie that way you can have a 1985 arnie and since it's all cgi it won't look out of place.

Because it looks cool.

I'm glad they did at least that much in T:S, by giving the T-800 the original's hairstyle, like in that photo.

In the new movie he will say "I need your walker, your Bengay, and your Rascal scooter."

Re: Terminator: Genesis

IMO the T1 Arnold only looks scarier to us because of our association with the scarier T-800 character and Arnold being younger. Given the choice of both looks in 1984, I think the T2/T3 look might have been deemed scarier than the shaggy early T1 look.

It looks like Arnold's hairline itself was getting higher & more receded in T2 and T3 than the first movie.

Come to think of it, I'm kinda surprised the makeup people didn't bring his hairline back down a bit for T3. They were standing on their heads trying to make Arnold look younger by then. Playing with hairlines is a common movie trick to fake age changes.
