Temple of Gozer door framed

I've been a little broke due to the divorce so I threw together a cheapy project just to keep myself busy. The door itself was nothing more than Bondo and Bronze paint.
The frame was made from cheap wood, moulding and spray paint to give it a stone look. All from Lowe's. The frame was built for around $15.00.
I left a little space at the bottom for a plaque.

Very cool, I went with the darker bronze for mine, kinda regretting it, and wanting it light in color, oh well

Love the stone frame idea, think i might stea.......... borrow it ; )

Thanx for the compliments.

Its slightly darker than it looks. I can't remember what type of paint it was but it was just some cheapo from Pat Catan's. It came out a lot better than I expected.

I took a .25" thick plywood and the piece for the border was 1.5x1. The door itself was something like 15.5x21. I cut the plywood 18 5/8x24 1/18. Adding 3" for the border and another 1/8" so it wasn't too tight fitting it in.
Glued the border onto the plywood, mitred the moulding and glued that on top of the border, used wood putty to fill in all the seems.
Used grey primer. I think this actually makes a difference for the stone spray paint. The way the paint almost comes out in flakes, I think I would have had to put it on really thick to cover it well if I didn't use grey primer first. The stone spray paint is great because it hides whatever defects I may have missed with the putty (remember I used the cheapest wood I could find) but it goes on incredibly thick. I was glad I gave it an 1/8" wiggle room instead 1/16" which I was originally going to give it. Because of how think the paint is, I still had to wedge it in there.

Sorry about the divorce but what your doing is right stay busy! That door looks fantastic and love your avatar:thumbsup that movie rocks!

Am I the only one that wanted to see more where the Ghostbusters go inside the temple after they've defeated Gozer, simply because they want to research the architecture?

Not me. That whole scene scared me to death as a kid. The top of a building, monster dogs, floating pyramids, evil/hot demon woman, and our heroes almost pushed off the building...Too much.

Anyway, this looks cool. It's nice to see the details of the door. I should probably pick up the blu-ray soon. I still run my vhs copy every year.
