Talky Tina finished 5/1 New pics/video added to first post

Re: Talky Tina - Movin and groovin 9/12/10 w/ Video

Now that Halloween is over, I'll be able to get a little more work done on this. The hair I added made it very thick, and I don't think it looks right. The problem with parting doll wigs is that they're usually rooted to a specific style and the hair doesn't always lay right if you move it. Sad too, because in the online catalog, it looked so perfect. I tried to finish the wig last night, and I'll probably end up just making one from scratch. Here's what it looks like after styling.

Awesome, awesome work so far! I can't wait to see the finished product.

If they made a mass-produced collectible, it wouldn't look this good.

(Of course, I'd still buy one to go along with my Talking Krusty doll.)

I worked on the new wig this afternoon. The wig cap is done, and hair will be added to it this evening.

Man this is a lot of work but she's going to look super cool when she's done. Keep up the good work. I may have to pick your brain if i ever want to add hair to a sculpture instead of sculpting it.

I'd be glad to help, Wes. I've done a lot of work with doll hair, so if you need anything, just ask and if I don't have the answer, I'll help you find it.

Re: Talky Tina - Movin and groovin 9/12/10 w/ Video

I finished the wig. It took forever to curl the pigtails the way I wanted them. Fortunately, the original prop had some really flyaway hair, because this one turned out that way too. I have to pick up some spray for synthetic hair, to keep the frizzies from getting any worse, and help hide the elastic that is visible in some places.

I couldn't resist getting video of Tina moving now that the head's attached.

I'm working on the clothes, and will be stopping by the guitar/music shop to look for chickenhead knobs. The only other thing I need is the little windup key that goes on her lower back. At first I thought it was from a jewelry box or something, but after viewing a few more pictures, it might have just been a key that was used on old metal toys.

I'm looking at windup keys from old toys to attach to Tina's back. I know it's not going to be functional, but I think the doll will look better with one added. I'm still pretty sure there were two dolls, because in some of the pictures, the key looks a tad smaller.
I made an offer on an eBay lot and got several different sizes of keys to play with. There are two that look like pretty close matches.

I'm feeling kind of blah about the BBP one. It's not the same size, doesn't look like Brikette, and doesn't move.

I got the windup keys. I'll be taking photos of them to see which one looks better.
Also, I know that someday I'll end up trying to make a more accurate doll. Maybe Tina wasn't even made with the mechanism from another doll. Were there any model kits or other toys that would have included a similar setup, but wound up in the back?

Your replica is looking great. The vid of the doll moving is downright creepy. :love

I got the chickenhead knobs today, and took a picture of it with the two winding keys. I'm deciding which one is closer to the size visible in the pictures. Of course, the bigger one will have to be cleaned up a bit if I use it.

Re: Talky Tina - New pics and video 1/16

From the reference pictures, I think I'm going with the smaller key. It's more delicate and "jewelry box" looking. I'm going to try and attach it with something that will allow it to turn. The chickenhead knob is now attached. I've been figuring out this one step in the dress pattern that I'm just not understanding. I think I have it right, but it's hard to tell from the diagrams.

Re: Talky Tina - New pics and video 1/16

I just want everyone to know that Tina is almost finished. I can't post pics at the moment, but will have them soon. I've found set screws to attach the non-working key, so it still looks like she's wound from the back. I'm putting the finishing touches on the dress tonight and tomorrow, so I'll have real updates then.

Re: Talky Tina - New pics and video 1/16

I'm still working on the dress, but I posted a pic of what it looks like so far. The collar I'm making is different than the pattern includes, so I'm having trouble getting it to look right. After I get that right, I have to attach the ribbon belt, add the bows, and hem it.
