T1 and T2 Endoskeleton Research Thread

Great work Dana:cool::cool::love::love:
Aww, thanks bud! I appreciate the support!

Throwing out something I don’t think I've shared before - In addition to those 35mm photos I got from a former Icons employee a long time ago, I also received some parts they said were from Stan Winston Studios. Supposedly these were castings they used as reference in developing their replicas. I don't know too much more than that honestly. One of the pieces I received is this forearm cuff:

The surface texture looks like what you see on some of the screen used parts:

The Lightstorm endoskeleton part exhibits similar surface texture:

Dimensionally, it's larger than the LFS version. The shape has a better "flare" than any replicas I've seen. The scribed lines look like the originals (thinner, uneven, and incomplete/shallow in places). It doesn't have a filled in flat bottom with any holes like the screen used ones.

Anyway, thought it might be interesting to others. The photos above are pretty old and I already started cleaning it up years ago. So some of the surface texture has been filled, but I wasn't going to obliterate all of the original charm and wonkiness. Still, I wish I had scanned it before cleanup. But that was ages ago before we had this new tech.

I’m so happy to say that I’ve completed my T1 hand prototype. As I mentioned before, these FDM print iterations were always meant to be a way for me to rapidly make improvements as I developed these and it took quite a few round trips to get these right. Pics up front and I’ll list some of the improvements I’ve made since I last showed them. Enjoy!

Pose4 Updates:
  • Palm plate shape and size were adjusted/increased based on closer reference examination
  • First knuckle on the index finger was lowered to better match the proportions across fingers
  • The “metacarpals” were slightly thickened and the lower tapers were all adjusted to look more accurate
  • Discovered “rails” that the lower DuBro 4-40s mount to near the palm plate. I’ve never seen these reproduced and I think I’m likely the first to notice and recreate these. Found these while stepping through the film at 4K
  • Finger tips were slightly resized in both length and diameter
  • All the “tabs” that stick out from the fingers where hardware attaches were reshaped to be more boxy and less rounded.
Thanks for humoring me as I worked through this and posted probably too many times. I’m extremely proud of the results and I really appreciate all of the work that went into creating the original puppet hands having painstakingly recreated them myself. These are really a beautiful design and I love that 80s Stan Winston team more than ever!!

That forearm piece is awesome. Several auction pictures and screen captures and the Bob Burns castings show that the bottom should be hollow and not filled in like on the replicas. The rod with the wrist ball joint is connected to the round piece with piston holes where the lower arm piece just slides down onto when assembled. I first noticed it from the T2:3D table pictures posted much earlier in the thread.

Would love to get a scan of that lower arm piece, but understand if you are only scanning for yourself.

Anyone have an idea of what the “Big Bang Theory” Endo is? It’s season 8 episode 6 I think. They mention it’s original but I’m not sure on that. Although they probably had access if they wanted. Or LFS? It also has a part exiting the back of the skull and some wires on the back. Maybe to light they eyes. The abdomen is a bit extended/taller like T3.

I'd put my money on an ICONS endoskeleton. Though, I cannot be sure.

It has the rounded rear upper piston forks that you also see on the Lightstorm endo and some hero props. Could be original - T2:3D or post - due to the front cover on the skull.

Found it. It's this one. It has the rounded rear upper piston forks. The pose is the same. Has the same over-extended pistons going from the chest to the pelvis. + the gap between the shin piece and the lower leg ankle piece.

Is the rifle one of the scaled ones? Doesn't look right.

And why did Propstore edit the gift skull pictures so much?
Yes, it’s one of the miniature rifles for the stop motion puppets.

The photos of the skull look awful because the new images look to be shot in a white box, killing all the scary chrome vibes. First photo in a dark environment and looks better.

Yes what Dana said.I should have said miniature. I don’t think one’s ever come up before and I thought it was cool. I still like the pics of the skull. Any new ones are good no matter the quality.

I think they are the same pistons on the sides, and I think the intention is for them to be positioned “the same” but even throughout the film these things move or are aligned differently. I don’t know that one is supposed to be higher than the other on either side of the arm. So, I’m just going for even-ish.

Seeing these on a few pieces I was wondering what they were. Found parts, or machined for the purpose... and are they on all the screen used pieces? These pictures also show the consistent thumb side lower arm piston being raised compared to the other. That's why I thought it might be a deliberate choice to place them unequally. Or maybe the difference is caused by the movement of the wrist when operating the hands, pulling one of the pistons up more?
