SW - why the hate for the EU?

I would love to see some of the EU make it onto the big screen. But I think they would have fewer people lashing out at them if they just blazed their own trail as the majority has already accepted that the EU may never be regarded as canon.

I'm ok with 2 parallel universes in a franchise and so is JJ Abrams.

Which is as it should be since there were no illusions that they were written under the condition that they weren't going to be canon. That's what i don't get about the insistence by some that they have to be in the ST and have to use the same names, some of the backstory etc. Everyone knew going into the novels they weren't going to be canon if more movies came along.

I agree. The only thing I liked in that was the commando squad that didn't follow Order 66 and turned on Vader. Also the bit about how he had to change fighting styles, which was an attempt to explain the weaker fighting in the OT.
The book did have some very interesting ideas and minor notes about Vader (synthetic skin itches--who knew?), I was just disappointed that the title was so misleading.

What if they want Han & Leia to have only one child? Which one do you keep? Better to name them something completely different and not be trapped by anything that the EU states.

That's a piece of cake. You keep Jaina because she's a bad*ss. Plus it flips the main role that Luke had in the OT to a female character.

:lol Fair enough, to be honest I haven't read anything with the Skywalker/Solo kids but I'm sure someone would scream bloody murder that the others weren't there!
