Actually, the prop gun is 9".
A friend of mine got to talk to one of the prop guys from the show and they have been talking shop about the colt
Things I have learned -
1: It's REALLY fragile.
2: There is only one, no backups in case it breaks.
3: It has broken a few times, apparently this gun is a royal pain in the ass.
4: 9" barrel.
5: It was originally chambered in .36 but they use .38 bp blanks in it. They never dry fire it because of the way the hammer smacks the cylinder.
6: Holy **** this gun is expensive.
The last time it managed to break during shooting was when they were going to shoot Lucifer. The spring broke after a few shots, so they had to use tv magic to get the rest of the shots needed. They did manage to get the hammer back though, so it worked out well in the end
