Supernatural Colt found!

Super neat - but the issue with that piece is that the seller wants right around the kind of money a real firing replica costs according to some of the other links in the thread.

Just came across this thread, and I think it's about time someone decided to tackle this one. I'd love to see someone accurately recreate this pistol. If my job situation was better, I'd definitely be in for one.

Cool thread! I would also love to own one of these. What is the pricing? Is there a thread in the junkyard?

I found this pdf where the gun is only $6.95 for a replica. Page 56 in the upper left corner ad. Unfortunately we're 50 years too late for that deal.

Please update about pricing and the junkyard. Adios...

Hi, It looks like this thread's been pretty quiet for a while. I had hoped to order one of the Colt resin replicas that were being offered but it looks like the person offering them has disappeared. SO, being the stubborn and intrepid person I am, I'm making my own. I have a Navy Civil War .36 replica that is fairly close to the Colt. Being an artist, I'm intending to do some alterations to the one I have to make it an exact match for the Colt from the series. Once I get this all done, I'll be making a mold and wanted to gauge interest to see if anyone out there was still wanting one. Please bear in mind it will be about a month or two for me to finish all the work on this piece but I'll post an image of it when I'm done. I have a dremel tool and will be using it to do all the engraving so that the replicas won't need any additional work. :) If anyone has a replica already available, then I'd still be interested to take a look since it would save me a few months of work. >__>

Just an update: I am currently working with modeling putty to lengthen the barrel of the Colt Navy revolver to the full 9" that the original Paterson had. I have my trusty Dremel and have been shaving down and shaping the body and will try to have some nice photos of the WIP soon. :)

EDIT!!!!!!: Well, luck has just changed on me. I actually FOUND a Pietta for sale and have bought it. XD Color me thrilled. I will be talking to my friend Kristi, who does a lot of 3-D work and mold casting, about what steps I need to take from here to make a casting of it in resin. Afterall, I'm paying an arm and a leg for this thing so I don't want to carve up the original. I'll be casting a resin version and then carving in the etched details with my dremel.

Question for all you who know more than me though...I have read two different things about the barrel length. There's some saying it's 9" and some who say 7 1/2". The gun I just bought is 7 1/2" which is normal for the Pietta replicas from what I understand and from the screenshots I've seen it looks like they were using a replica that had the 7 1/2" barrel. Can someone tell me if I'm wrong on that? If it IS supposed to be 9", I want to stay true to what's in the show and would have to build out an extra 2 inches to the resin casting. Not a HUGE deal but if I can avoid it that's even better. Also, I'm thinking about trying to cast the resin one in pieces so that I can have a working cosplay version.

PRETTY SURE it's the 9" barrel.

Would it be possible to get accurate measurements off your pietta? width of the primary components and whatnot....are you planning on casting this as a solid piece or individual parts ala kit?

Ah. Thanks. I can always try to create a 1 1/2" extension for the barrel. I could cast it once and then add on the 1 1/2" piece, then cast again with the whole 9" barrel so that the mold would be for the longer version.

Well, I know what the measurements of my own gun are. For example, I know the barrel is 7 1/2". As for casting, I'm trying to figure out which would be better. I know I WANT to cast in pieces and then attempt to put it together as a working model but there's a lot of tiny parts to the real gun that would be a pain to make into a casting. I know I will at least be making a mold of the solid piece with the hammer up and the trigger hidden. My goal will be to also have another set of molds with the parts so that I can fit them together to make a movable model.

Damn, its nice to see someone actually taking on this project! I would be very interested, and will keep an eye on this topic from now on, so I can see when it gets completed! Best of luck to you brother, and I'm sure you can make up most if not all the money you sank into this project if completed!!!

For as the moving. Its not absolutely necessary IMO, but if just the hammer, barrel and trigger moved, that would be fine to me!

Barrel Length: :confused

7 1/2" or 9" - There has to be someone out there on a Supernatural fan site that has the information on the colt to know for sure. I though it was the 7 1/2" barrel. But now I don't know.

If you cast the pistol as a one peice - you will likely draw more LARP and Supernatural collectors. More peices are intimitdating to some. There is a HUGE supernatural following.

PLEASE keep at it. I definately am interested in the colt!!

Hey guys, don't worry I'm still working on this. I think for the sake of expediency and cost, that I'll be keeping the barrel length at 7 1/2". If someone desparately wants a 9", I can tackle that later. I am thinking of making 2 molds: one will consist of a solid piece with no moving parts. The other will be a series of molds that will be the individual pieces. As for the moving aspect, don't worry Harada357, I'll actually be selling them all put together so if someone wants a moving one, they won't need to put it together themselves. Of course, the moving ones will be more expensive as it will be a lot more difficulty on my part.

Right now, I'm working with a 3-D modeling expert friend who is helping me pick out the proper mold materials. I think we're going to go with rubber molds since they will pick up the details MUCH finer than other types. I'll let you all know once the first resin pour is made and will post images as I continue to work on this.
