i have been a long time fan of certain elements of the superman returns costume, i know its got a lot of criticisms but i think its very cool and a great update to the classic costume. so i began gathering the pieces for mine, having got the bodysuit and trunks from the bronze armoury and the belt and emblem from costumebase and making my own cape from some satin it was time to get the most important part...the boots. the returns boots are very distinctive and not like any other versions of the superman boots that had come before, and they are very difficult to replicate. i have seen a few replicas over the years, some good some bad, i got a pair of "inspired" boots of a seller in china on ebay and they are actually an ok boot, but they still didnt satisfy me. enter matt munson, if any of you have read his blog you will know that he has spent a long time gathering lots of info on the returns costume and how to replicate it, it was him that put me onto superheroboots.com
a guy name keith runs superheroboots and he does a great looking replica of the returns boots, as well as other superman boots. so i emailed keith and asked various questions about the boots, all of which he repsonded to quickly. keith informed me of the turnaround time for the boots and how comfortable they were, i was planning to run 6 miles in them for charity (i did the run just not in costume sadly) but anyway, he informed me he had just got a new sole that would be more comfortable and also look more screen accurate. Keith really does some quality work, the boots are made from pleather i assume, various textures which really helps the look, and the base shoes are a pair of sketchers, really comfortable and also have loads of "s" all over the soles, a nice touch.
the boots are made to measure and keith was there every step of the way about all my questions to make sure they fit just right.
when i recieved them i was blown away with the quality and the look of the boots, once i had the full costume on it really tied everything together, before it was just some blue tights but once the boots were on the whole costume finally looked just right. all thanks to keith
he really is a top man, and he followed through right till the end emailing me to make sure they had been delivered, such great customer service.
