Sulaco1967 W.i.p First Build Competed

Sorry your having so many problems with it. When you say "constrict on the material" did it come loose from the fabric and then stick to itself or did it stick to itself through the fabric of the Fett suit? ? Just trying to understand.

Steve

Think the tape was not bonding to the material at certain points and once The suit was off the tape constricted. I think my body swelling inside the tape did not help either... Do you think this may also have been a factor?

Cheers Bud

Sean

If the Fett suit material was slick and if there was any body oils or even persperation in places that would hinder the tape from sticking then it could easily pull away from the material and stick to itself if the suit was left sitting say overnight and not immediately stuffed with something to help keep its basic shape. Did you notice if you sweat a lot in it especially in the torso area and did you stuff anything in it shortly after getting it off?

Yeah mate firstly tape was on to long due to my helpers being embroiled in the fire scenario going outside and body started to swell. This became a worse scenario as getting cut out was very painful and caused me to perspire even more..

We ran out of time to do the actual stuffing as it was bathtime four our baby...so today Is the first chance to try and stuff... I should have done it right away yeah...mmm

Sorry to hear this Sean. I used a long sleeve cotton shirt and a pair of Spandex work out pants when I did mine, and didn't stuff it until the following day. I had 2 solid layers of tape, and it held together fine. I would make sure that the tape is pressed done we'll, and that the seams overlap each other we'll next time. Hopefully things will work out for you bud, keep us posted.

Well it was my birthday today and had a pampered lazy day with family. Only dissapointment was the Pred hands My partner ordered did not arrive. The guy was informed that it was my birthday today and was promised they would be here. Well hopefully they will be here early next week... Bummer...

Happy birthday buddy. I know you didn't get you hands on your hands, by I hope it was a good one anyway! ;)

Sean

So I plan to get more Duct Tape tommorow and have friend booked in to give me a hand on Wednesday..,

Does anybody have any more tips on making this successful..

Cheers

Sean

use something that the tape will stick to well, and something that isn't spandex is all I can think. Also, stuff it as soon as you can.

Brian

Cheers for info Brian.,,have a cotton top and cotton jogging bottoms. Duct tape I'm going to buy is supposed to be be heavy duty very adhesive.. Fingered crossed...

That's what I used, all cotton non-stretchy stuff. Had no problems. I hope this is the last time you have to do it Sean, it's nooooo fun!

Yay...finally got the duct tape dummy finished and am very pleased with it and no more pics of the process, learned my lesson there lol..

I used an old pair of jogging trousers and a cotton top this time which helped the bond to the tape.  I also bought both silver and black duct tape which helped when putting on the two layers, ensuring that no areas were missed.

Again lines were drawn to indicate the cut lines and X's marked at various intervals which helped when marrying up the dummy when stuffing.  I used newspaper to stuff it and found a long thick wooden dowl handy to compact the paper as it was put into legs and arms. I also marked the area where my hips were and this helped with adjusting the dummy on to the frame.  I have also marked on the dummy where my nipples and belly button are which I think will help when it comes to making the foam muscles.  Once stuffed I built up the neck piece using cardboard.

Once again it was very painfull getting cut out and am cut and bruised along the cut lines. well wort it for the result though.

I am now contemplating puting on anothet jumper and Tshirt on to the dummy and covering it again in bin liners.  Thinking behind this is to compensate for latex shrinkage and the bin liners to ensure that the suit will come off the dummy more easily when finished.

What do you guys think..

I managed to get some more free uphostery foam from a local business so I now have ample to complete the morph muscle suit...

What is the best way to clean these before painting as there is quite a lot of white residue in places, just soapy water ?

One of the Gloves has an air bubble and is very thin, Can I just brush over some latex over it to repair?

Thanks for any Feedback

Glad this round on the DTD went much better...looks great! Sorry you weren't up for more pics of the process...but we understand. As unfortunate as the first try was and the pain you endured to make them both you have contributed to the success of others who will read through this thread and attempt this as well which is a really good thing. Thank you.

Steve

Your whole process seems to be coming together very well and quickly even with a budget or not. Can't wait to see what your hands will end up looking like

Love the hands Sean.  I have always used plain old warm soapy water and a brush to scrub the latex before painting, and haven't had any issues yet.  I had a few small bubbles on the feat I got, and just filled the voids with a little dab of latex, then smoothed it down to blend it in.  If you look close, you can still see where it was, but I think the paint will hide it fine.  While I was trimming the seams, I got a little too close and cut a small slit in the seam.  I read somewhere to use tissue and latex to repair it, and it worked great.  My hope now is that it wont rip when stretched.  I can't wait to see the hands painted up.

Thanks Steve it was a trauma and don't want to go through that again, I really started to get claustrophobic near the end and just wanted the thing off.

Cheers Mikeincan, cant wait to see them finished myself, have no confidence in painting and keep finding reasons not to start though.
