Sulaco1967 W.i.p First Build Competed

Cheers bud and thanks for looking. My friend is coming up tommorow to give me a hand with finalising the templates for the chest muscles. Ruth my partner was asking me if there was so something I should be telling her as she found all these body building sites I was looking at for muscles reference on her computer..lol...had the same question when she found my reaserch for netting..

Cheers

I see the feet and hands turned out awesome. On my air bubbles i used pieces of the latex that I trimmed off and put them on the inside of the piece and covered with latex.I got the idea from Meangene i believe it was but he used super glue. But on your hands i guess it would be pretty much impossible to get it inside the fingers.

Keep at it Sean...the netting searches can be part of the fringe benefits of a build... ;) Latex body suits are another but you gotta' be careful...whew, I had no idea... o_O

Yeah very dodgy territory Steve...google will probably start bombarding me with adverts of all sorts now

this is one of the most unique builds i've seen.  looking forward in seeing the suit complete.

Thanks bud..really apreciate that..I am looking forward to seeing it complete myself..lol.

Any progress I'm this Sean? I'm also curious about how the sprayer works out. Keep us posted, eh mate?

Well have had a wee bit of progress Brian. I have spent the last few days trying to create templates for the muscles to cut out the upholstery foam.

The main problem has been that now I have the morph suit on the duct tape dummy stand it is difficult to get accurate mesurements of where the muscles should be in relation to my body. I don't want to finish the suit and find that the pects/six pack are not in line with my own body proportions, just woudn't look right.

So I taped some sheets of paper together and stuck them to my skin and marked out where my nipples, bellybutton and where my pects and six pack were, if I had them lol. This was a task in itself as I had to try and push out the little muscles I have and take meseurments.

So template made and after the input of 'starbeast62' I decided to go for it. I transferred the paper template too cardboard.

I then cut out the pects roughly..

Working the foam is not easy, it rips very easy and does not produce a smooth finish. Plan to soak the piece in water and freeze then sand, have had mixed results with this, getting a loan of a rotary sander to try that.

Having decided to go down this route it is going to be a lot of work, so Brian the evaluation of the HVLP gun will be a wee while yet..

I using my tablet to do this post so I aplogise if it turns out weird..

Cheers

I like the idea of freezing the foam and sanding, I've never done that before. Another bit of lateral thinking and if it works OK I don't imagine it should take you too long. Doesn't need to be perfect because you're going to spray latex on top of it.

It's all starting to come together now.

Thanks for the comment Stephen...good to see your still checking in to the Lair...You should regurgitate some of your old posts and show off your work . Yeah the freezing thing....still not convinced, however am going to try a rotary sander as was sugested..

Good too hear from you bud..

Sean

It's looking good Sean.  I think, done right, this method will produce better results than the Mr. I suit method.  The biggest complaint I have about my suit is the exaggerated muscles.  You should have seen it before I modified it...it was horrible.  May be a little late since you already have it on the dummy, but what I did was put it on and mark some reference points so I knew where things were on the dummy in relation to my body.  Your idea looks like it's working though, so I would keep doing what you're doing!  Let us know how the frozen foam works out...I'm intrigued by the idea.

Brian

The thing that bothered me about the Mr I suit or equivelent was that it does not conform with your body. It just hangs like a ' sack o tatties' as we say. Going down this route and using the morph suit and applying the foam on top will not only give a skin type fit but will reduce stress on the outer part of the suit where the paintjob is..minimizing stress on it

That's my theory anyway..

Sean

to assist in cutting the foam.....why not rig up a hot wire cutter?  a small motorcycle battery and some nichrome wire will do the job or a guitar wire will also work with a wooden frame....and you'll be cutting that foam like a hot knife going through butter!

Cheers for the tip bud...have thought about it...

Well I am totaly impressed with the freezing technique to sand the foam, have just finished off the pects and love the smooth edges. There was no ripping and catching.

What I found was that you had to re-soak the piece of foam twice or more to get it totaly solid as the water initialy sinks to the bottom. Once solid it can take a hard grit. sandpaper no bother.

Good job we have two freezers don't think Ruth would be too happy taking it over..lol..

cheers

Sean

Wow Sean, that sounds great! Looking good and I can't wait to see some shots of the foam after sanding. Glad to see you are back at it...stay motivated.

Steve

That's great news Sean.  Ya know, it probably is a good thing you have 2 freezers... I would hate to be served "fillet of foam" for dinner some night.  Looking forward to seeing some pics, and glad to see you're back on track with this.

Brian

Have made a bit of progress with the muscles...

Freezing the foam is fantastic to get proper smooth rounded edges.  Some of the pieces of foam required to be soaked about three times to become totally solid.

I messed up a couple of times getting the shapes for the arm muscles, however I think I'm on the right track now and am waiting on a piece freezing as I write.

Cheers

Sean

This is looking really good there Sean! I am very interested to see how this turnes out. Maybe you are the Willy Wonka of frozen foam shaping... ;) Keep at it good sir.

Steve

lol...thanks Steve, got to admit it is very satisfying carving and sanding the foam, I had a little production line going on in the freezer. Good job we have two lol...

cheers
