Sulaco1967 W.i.p First Build Competed

Yay..finally finished the feet....

It seems to have take forever to complete them, the worse part was working out how to get materials to bond to the PVC. I found out that by sanding it this gave a key to attach the leather etc. Once again thanks to Starbeast62 for skinning the back of his leather couch to use on this. The detail on the feet is mostly womens belts i found in local charity shops and I used antique upholstery pins for the rest. The spiked strip at the back is a collar i found at a local costume store and this is attached with velcro and hides the zip at the back. The straps at the side can be adjusted and this will allow my leg with the skin to fit securely inside once created.

I think they look very steampunk and would looove to get my hands on the steampunk bio. I think I will continue this theme on the rest of the armour.

Well....I'm sitting sanding my Predators buttocks...there is a first time for everything I suppose lol..
LOL... did ya at least talk dirty to him to get him a little more "in the mood"?  Sounds like fun, but pics of that would be priceless (might even rival the DT dummy :p).  Good to know you're still plugging away at this Sean!

Brian

Where ya' stand on this Sean? You got his butt done yet? Tee he. I agree with Brian pics could rival the DTD... :D

Steve

Lol...Will post up a vid soon...nooooo learned my lesson with the DTD....

Buttocks are now attached along with a few other areas at the back, I will try and post some pics over the weekend. It is a helluva slow process Through and work and family commitments keep intruding.

I ordered some white latex colourent today and was looking for advice on using the stuff.

Does a little go a long way?

Should I tint the latex as I am applying or put the bottles into the 5 litres and mix..

any advice appreciated...

Cheers

Sean

Well...had a few traumas today...

Okay..all the muscles are on and have not posted any pics as there is not much more to show..unless anyone wants some butt pics..lol

So over the last few days I have been applying layers of latex to the suit to encapsulate the foam.

I started the third layer and tried to use the HLVP gun with latex and tint. However the gun choked instantly. I had added the tint and maybe added to much..After cleaning out the gun I used a sponge to apply the latex (with the tint) and found that after a little while it was creating lumps.

Persevered and think I was not getting the consistency right.

So I left the latex to cure and am finding that the foam has a really rough texture and will basicly look like S##t once painted.

Am so kicking myself..I wish I had covered the foam in cloth and then latexed...

I plan to cut up a Mr I suit tomorrow and apply to muscles areas...

The joys...lol...

Sean

Damn man, I hate to hear that Sean.  I know you've been working very hard on this and hate that it didn't work out as planned.  Glad to hear you're not giving up mate, you've come too far to look back now!  Good luck with future endeavors!

Brian

Well bit of progress..I cut up a Mr I suit I had lying about and jigsawed the pieces of fabric onto the foam muscles.  It's a lot better than it was and I feel a bit more confident that the suit is not totaly ruined.

It,s not perfect however paint and armour will hopefully cover up the imperfections.

Cheers

Looks awesome Sean!

Your armor totally has a steampunk feel to it which is awesome. With regards to your latex painting, if you cost your paintbrush in liquid dish soap you won't have to make constant trips to the sink to wash it out as the latex can't bond to the soap in the bristles. Also, if your paint gun is getting gummed up by the latex and tinting, you can try thinning it down with pure Ammonia. It'll make it runnier and may help with spraying. I'm assuming that you won't see the hips once you put on the armor so the areas at the tops of the legs shouldn't be an issue; if you aren't making hip covers you should consider making some hip muscles though. Your muscles all look amazing and they line up and seem like they'll move like their real life counterparts. I'd be interested in seeing all the muscles on the back too.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the comments Micah and for the tips regarding the brushes and ammonia...nice 1.  I plan on using a belt with loincloth around the hips so hopefully it will look ok.  I wanted to leave some area free from foam and plan to put texture on using foamies to create a reptile looking skin on these areas (pic below) and have posted a pic of the back as you requested.

Yay! Progress Sean. Did you just stick the Mr. I suit pieces on with latex of something else. Looking good here.

Steve
I just sprayed the foam with spray adhesive and it worked a treat.  Very tricky to get it to shape around the muscles though Steve.

Nice recovery Sean, it looks great!  In fact, I like it more than mine  o_O.

Brian
Cheers Brian well if my paint job turns out as good as yours I will be a happy man.

So today I added some veins, using the same technique I used on the feet.  I also created a bellybutton.  I made this from a balloon, I blew it up, tied it and then cut off the top and voila one ready made rubber bellybutton..lol.

Is it an "innie" or an "outie"?  :)

Lol...its an innie..however great thing with using the balloon method is the diversity to have an outie...lol

Jeez a few years ago I would never have thought I would be discussing Predators Bellybuttons....isn't life strange... lol

cheers

The science/biology geek in me wonders whether Preds would HAVE bellybuttons . . . how the heck does a Pred breed and give birth anyway?

But I suppose that discussion would belong in another forum area . . . .
