Sean, it's great to see more progress on this!  Things seem to be coming together nicely.  I just looked back through the entire thread, and realized you haven't posted any pics of your mask.  Which one/who's do you have?  Also was curious where you got your dreads from.  You can't be far from painting up the skin, right?  Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really anxious to see you finish this guy up.  Thanks for the updated, and keep em' coming!

Oooh, I like the facehugger on the bio.  :)
Thanks Lflank I think it looks really cool.  It was a bonus that the Bio was custom made to fit the mask I purchased from the same seller.  Was kinda worried that if buying pieces separately, they would not fit together.

Thanks Brian here is a picture of my mask.  As mentioned above the bio and mask are custom made to fit like a glove.

I plan to do the hands next, mainly to practice applying the pros aide and using my new Badger Precision 200 airbrush.  Will leave the mask to last methinks.  Can't wait to finish.

Have applied some gold, copper and bronze to the Bio this morning.  I am as happy as a Pig in the Proverbial doing this..... great fun. :D

I used tinted  safety glasses for the lenses and built up the inside of the eyes with 'Milliput'  to give them some more purchase to stick.  The LED's were a nightmare, it's only the second time I have tried soldering and it was really fiddly, however after a lot of swearing I managed to cobble them together.  The Paint was sealed with three layers of Yaught Varnish.

Very pleased with how it turned out.  Soooo.. just the hands, skin and mask to paint and that wlll be me more or less finished,,,yipee..

Cheers

It's fairly coming along now and wait till you see the difference the dreds make to the build. When I was doing mine I didn't feel the creature came alive until I installed the dreds. Looks like good quality dreds and you won't regret not making them yourself or using heavy backer rod etc. Colour scheme of your bio is quite unique and is in keeping with the rest of the build. As you say not long now so keep us posted.

Thanks Stephen so excited to get this finished. Hope you can visit and see the finished article, I might descend on your Gala day...

Top notch Sean, very well done.  I like the yellow lenses, and the paint is superb!  I'm excited to see this done!  You see that light?  The one at the end of the tunnel?  You're not far from it at all!

Brian

Damn, i haven't seen this thread in a while. Great job on the layering effects on that bio, great colour scheme with an excellent result.

Thanks for the comments Brian and Mark I'm glad you like. I felt the bio would have looked out of sorts with the rest of the build if I had made it any other colour. I was hoping to start on the hands today however I have had the motivation of a carrot and lazed about watching Dr Who.lol.

The bio looks amazeing very nice job.
cheers bud..

Well first try of using pros aide and fw inks was a disaster on hands. I washed the habds in soapy water this morning and found the hands to be a light brown colour after all the residue was off.Once dried I applied the Pros Aide and then airbrushed a base white on the fingers. The inks did not seem to be hiding the base brown of the latex and I went over with many passes till the brown started to dissapear. I went out for a few hours and excitedly checked when I came back home. I found that that many areas seemed cracked even know there had been no movement or distress too the area.

So I'm thinking maybe I applied too much paint..grrrrr...

What do you think any pointers and advice well apreciated...

cheers

Sean

Sounds like too much paint too fast Sean, I've had it happen to me.  I stripped as much of the ink off as I could and started over.  I discovered that several light coats worked as long as I gave them plenty of time in between coats to dry.  What are you thinning with?  Sorry it happened, but at least it was only the hands.

Brian

Cheers for getting back so Quick Brian, Ruth who is sitting next to me has been trying to cheer me up for the last two hours..

I did not use anything to thin down the inks..should I have?..

I had paint running down the hands so I'm thinking too much and maybe airbrush was not set right..

Did you put on Pros aide after ever coat?..

Sean

I did a little experiment with prosaide after talking to Usurper awhile back.I had a problem with cracks also but only when I flexed the latex and Usurper suggested that the prosaide was on to thick. So I took a couple pieces of latex and coated one heavily with prosaide and the other one with a light coat. The heavy coat one after painted when stretched it cracked like a zebra pattern and the other was just fine when stretched. But you mentioned the paint was running so you had a paint thickness problem.I thin my fw inks with isopropyl alcohol 1:1.

One coat of prosaide is all I ever do. If you didn't thin your inks and it was running, you were laying it on to heavy. Multiple light coats is the best way to go. I've always put pretty heavy coats of prosaide on and never had a problem with cracking. Are you using a filter inline? I use 2... one at the compressor, and one on the AB. I was amazed at how much water the second filter caught. As far as thinning. I thinned mine about 70/30 to help it go a little further, but there's no reason you can't Spray it neat. Hope this helps Sean. Don't get down buddy, it's only paint... easily fixed.

Thanks for the info, yeah I think the paint was definitely too thick. I have been brushing/scrubbing on the pros aide on with a toothbrush so it is going going on thinly.

I have just tried doing a thumb on the other hand and turned the paint flow right down on the airbrush.  Will let dry and do another pass.  What also might be a problem is the actual Pros aide.  I bought what I thought was genuine stuff as advertised however when I got it, it was not the genuine brand.  Was kind of pissed at the time but never got around to complaining duhhhh. The thumb I have just painted does not really feel tacky anymore, should it still be after a light coat?..I can see myself having to order more pros aiide and a stinking e mail to the company i bought the first stuff from.

Cheer Guys

Sean

I've never used Prosaide, I've been using Aquafix from Mouldlife, so far I've not had any problems with it, I've done my whole costume, refurbished a friends costume with it and used it on some other stuff for Halloween as well.
I just put a thin coat on and allow it to go clear, then just apply thin layers of paint/ink.
One thing I have learned is the paint will darken slightly, so it always looks a bit too light at the start.
Have you thought of making up some PAX paint to cover up the base colour, I used this on my mates skins as they were so dark, it covered up the dark colour nicely.

Keep at it, took me a while to get it used to it.
