hi guys , I have been working on this ever since I can remember, It is totally scratched built....well I did kit bash the saturn 5 and other kits.
Following the chronicles and others I believe it is pretty close.
What do you think?
Any pics of the legs as close up would be greatly appreciated as this is were I am headed next.
I am so sick of this project, there is probably 1000 plus pieces up to now.
not sure if I will keep it though
lol

Looking good dude!. Is this a first time scratch for you?, if so well done and please keep going it will be so worth it to have your own probe.
How have you got on with the underside details any pics, please, please.
I think the chronicles book has the best leg details but some of the exhibition pics posted by others may come up trumps?.
Good work, keep us posted.
Stu:cool

Looks EFFFffing FANTASTIC:love!I'd buy one if it were a kit since the last one made is "unavailable" :cry.So many kits,so little time,so little money:confused

ok first thanks for all the kind words, one question in there ...
2 weeks i believe maybe more , not together but at random.
It has taken forever, The bottom is not quite done.
It is my first scratch build, why can you tell?lol
Would I make this as a kit? yes , but do not know how
This measures 60cm high like the chronicles says.
I may know someone that may be able to cast it, if it ever gets finished , i will let allof you guys know.
thanks again and keep them coming

Great work, really.

You might want to scan the ss forum for the old thread on the probe droid, lots of reference there.

AWESOME!!!!!! I am in the research stages of doing a full 9 foot life size version. How big is your? WHat is studio scale?

I am not sure what STUDIO means, i am under the impression studio means the size of one of the modells they used in filming :confused
I got my measurements from the chronicles and visiual dictionary , but i know one of the models was actually 60cm high , how the hell are you going to do a full size one ? what a challenge.
I did this using that rib system, how are you doing yours
ps thank to the previous comments and resource:)

You pretty much nailed it on the ehad."Studio scale" oretty much is based on reproducing the same/identical filming miniatures.60 cm. is obviously more prcatical.I doubt many of us have the room for the full sized prop, but some might?Great wprk by the way.I wish i had the time to sit down and scratc build,I just don't these days, not do I have the work space.

oh man I just realised it may look like i have nothing better to do!lol
I am a construction worker , these toys as my wife calls them are to be done outside my quality time with the family and outside work hours.........
therefore between the hours of 11.00pm and 6am when i get up:lol

Oh i knew what studio scale ment i was just wondering what size is yours and who did you know it was studio scale.

The made a full size probe droid for the film and i am really trying to find info on the scale .

I am going to use the rib method with foam and foam board so it will light weight.

Why not have the legs laser cut in acrylic? From there its all kit parts, Saturn V, Tamiya M16, Morser Karl and 8rad to name a few, the linkages are from the 1/12 Tamiya F1 line...possibly one of the DVF Fords, ive never really delved into it, but if your stuck on any parts just shout and ill see what i can bag ID wise!

Actually, discount the 8rad, i dont think its in the mix, but there appear to be some 1/20 F1 dampers too, possibly Brabham BT46?
