Studio 2 Spinner (Blade Runner)

Anyone know anything about this planned kit?

Police Spinner
(Studio 2) 1:8. 24” long. Mixed media.
Coming mid 2006.

Also, I recall there being an interest thread in the JY sometime during the last 12 months from someone who was considering an SS Spinner. Is that still on the table?

thx,
Allan

Thanks, Tempo. I did a search but it didn't pick up that thread.

What's the rundown on currently available spinner kits? I did see a nice build up via the search - Aegis159's, but I'm not certain of the size... Is the 17" kit the best bet?

Also, I still recall an interest thread someone started in the JY about a large spinner offering...MrPredicta maybe? Anyone remember this???

Yup, I remember. Here's the thread I think you mean (turned up in the Props Forum, not the JY):

RPF Prop Forum: BEST... SPINNER... EVER....

As for good kits... well, I think these Spinner kits by Monster Egg look awesome:

Monster Egg: Spinner Kit

Problem is, like the Studio 2 kit, these have been promised for years, with no end in sight. :(

Thanks, I was beginning to wonder if I hadn't confused it with something else...

Well, I went ahead and ordered the 17". I understand it may be a little soft and has no decals. But, hopefully a little attention can bring it around. I've got a couple of other projects in front of it. But, last time I ordered from MiM it took so long to get the kit that I had completely forgotten I'd ordered it when it arrived.

Too many vapor-ware Spinners out there, eh? It's a shame, an accurate kit in the 24-36" neighborhood would do quite well in the $1K price range.

Thanks again for the info and your help.

My pleasure. Glad I could assist.

If you're not too old and grey when the kit arrives :p , please share your build with us. I'd love to see what you do with it. As you noted, it's soft and has no decals, but the size alone is impressive... and it's rotocast, so you have plenty of room inside for electronics. I think you could even put a functioning miniature video screen in the driver's console. :D

Yes. :D

Ah yes that big spinner.. I went on a one man campaign to get people intrested in that kit.. but the maker/front man didnt seem very interested in persuing it at the price people were throwing out.

Owell...

Bump from the dead.

I'm honestly surprised that there isn't a larger kit on the market now, especially with the wealth of information available on it now.... well except for the interior of the process car that is :( :unsure

Plus with the renewed interest in the film since the release of the remastered Dir. cut and the large collection coming out next year I think the market could easily handle one.

Hehe I'm so tempted to start building a large version, but I honestly want to finish my mods to my Anubis kit first. And yes I was able to get an Anubis one ages ago, not one of the MiMs. hehehe that's how long I've been working on mine off and on....

Exciting news. There are photos of a work in process model on the comet site:[/b]
Well, look at that. They've finally got some progress pics up.

I was hoping for a bit more after a three-year wait, but it's good to know that it's being designed to accommodate a lighting kit.

As for price: I'd like to know more about the kit before venturing a guess. But if I had to speculate at this point, I'd say, "Expensive." :p

No, seriously, based on the very little information we have, I might guess $800. But that's pure speculation. Price is likely to vary widely depending on the number of parts, nature of clear parts (injection? acrylic? vacuum-formed?), moving parts, rubber parts (tires), metal parts, whether figures, decals, lighting, instrument overlays are included, and so on.

Thanks for posting that link. Very interesting.

Quotes in the link from Mamas Pitsillis, the guy who's designing the kit:

As for the price i havn`t worked it out yet, but it wont be cheap. each kit will be cast to order and can be tailord to individul needs. ie hollow fibreglass parts (Rather than solid resin parts) so that lighting is made easy.[/b]

if there is any intrest people can contact me direct or go thru comet miniatures.[/b]

The biggest problem I have with this version is the overall shape... it's pretty clear that he's used the TVC kit as a reference piece...

Love the size though..

Not sure. I haven't really looked that close at mine. Is there a concensus as to the accuracy of the Medicom "Future Car"? It looks really good to me. I just need to detail that one up.
