fair dinkum, it just looks 3D to me with wires coming out of the bottom. There is a scene in the making of (japanese version?) where a women looks like she's lacing something or wrapping wires at the troopers feet. Again, i could see no real reason for laces to be used so assumed it was squib wires she was sorting out. Maybe the squibs were placed in various areas of the armour and had a main connection box or junction box placed in the armour somewhere that then had various wires running down the costume along the floor and to the guy with the button. at that time i dont think squibs were neccesarily remotely detonated. i'm sure the box wasnt meant to be near his gonads but had slipped down.
it seem just a little more exciting than strapping or gaffer:lol

Does anyone know or have any theories as to what the chestplates of the squibed troopers where made of? They seem to consistantly be a different color than the regular troopers. Maybe a fireproof material?

In this shot ( I forget who the capture is by sorry.) The guy circled and the guy who is the closest to the screen have the different color chests and they both get shot.

Ideas?

Sounds feasible, but I still think it looks like a frayed strap.

I'd say the chest plates, or any other parts of the armour that look a different white to the rest of the suit, would most likely be painted and patched up to hide the squib blast. I would imagine that the same armour parts/suits were used for several scenes so the parts would be repaired and painted ready for the next scene it was to be used in.

Good eye on the different colour chestplates - all these years of watching Star Wars and I never picked that up.

Kind of like Trek's 'guy in the red shirt', eh? The one's with the off-white chests are probably going to die next..

I guess everyone has seen this already, but i cant belive i didnt notice earlier, maybe its because most of this scene you see the troopers from behind... but the scanning screw trooper with the DLT-19 and no E-11 holster is MNS :thumbsup
