Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/WIP - Con pics on last page

This is my first thread so forgive me if I go about this in the wrong way. I have been lurking for a few months now and I have seen and learned a crazy amount from everyone on here. So thanks.

With that said, I am in the planning/material collecting stage of a steampunk Bane costume. I am using the TDKR Bane as a base and I am trying to go with a militant version without weapons.

I am trying to keep a few of the elements the same (similar mask, knee pads and gauntlet for now.) to keep some familiarity yet having freedom to stray from the standard costume.

For the mask, I am using a regular respirator and forming in the fashion of one of the concept art masks from a picture I got off the net (sorry for no picture). The rest of the mask would be leather with straps on the sides.

I got some green WWII paratrooper pants at a thrift store that I am sewing some elbow pads to at the knees. They are khaki in color and the pads are black but I will be changing that color to keep with the theme.

I know it isn't all that cool but as a noob, I would like to start with something relatively easy and work up from there.

Any feedback or ideas are more than welcome. I like the ideas a lot of the fellow forum members come up with. Thanks for your time.

Sounds like a great plan. Are you going to be going full steampunk making a tank that the mask works off of or sticking to just the mask itself?

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

Thanks. I am thinking just the mask. I like the simplicity of it. I want it to be more mechanical of course. I don't want to stray too far away from the base but still stay creative and different.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

After thinking for a few awhile, I think a tank may not be too bad of an idea. Maybe something no bigger than a cereal box or so with plenty of clockworks and tubes. Lol..

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

This guy had a similar idea, but he went with a simpler approach. Would love to see something more done with the mask.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

Nice pic Aeon. Great concept for go by. He is a little too formal for me but we can work that out. So do you guys think a big bulky tank on the back or a smaller one perhaps on the back of the mask?

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

In the attachment is a picture of some of the concept art from TDKR and I would like to go the direction of the mask on the left.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

drop the sleeves and something along these lines would be an excellent Bane Vest, and not to tough to put together with abs and a heat gun..

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

Awesome idea man. I like it...a little outside my skill level but I wouldn't mind the challenge. I am unclear on what abs is?

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

Hmmm, interesting, you want to use it like the movie mask? Just to know in case i draw something today

Made: I want some of the elements of the movie mask, the tubing and general shap of the mask mainly, to remain but be creative with the rest. I am trying to find a happy medium between keeping it simple but adding it that mechanical flare of a steam/clockwork machine. I was thinking of maybe a tank on the back of the mask or a back/chest rig that would flow into the area of the respirator that the filters usually take up.

Keeping the bulk down on the mask would be useful if I go with a vest like the one Rikarus suggested. I would keep the shoulder and get rid of the sleeve and make a different version of his gaunlet/glove. And I would have to somehow get that kidney plate in there somewhere...lol.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

Whatever you work up, I think it'd be cool for you to have one or two "blowoff valves" - maybe the bottom-corner pipes? - where you can puff out water vapor or dry ice in quick blasts now and again.

Can't wait to see this done! I too might draw something for this =0)

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

Oh the thought of a steampunk bane sent me through spirals! Give me a day or two and I'll have a concept... just wait, don't start a build yet :p

I'm loving this idea! I would, however, suggest staying away from the Top hat, he'd more likely wear a bowler or cloth cap.

Awesome that you came in on this Primo. I subscribed to your Bane on a Budget build and I was in awe of the simple things you used to build it. And I was thinking the same thing about the blowoff valves and using the web belts. I have a few left over from my USMC days. I am hitting the party store tomorrow for tubing. And thank you guys for the kind words and I love to see what you guys come up with.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas?

So this is what I am thinking so far: I liked Rikarus' post on the armor but I was thinking a segmented breastplate (copper or bronze in color), a web belt battle belt covered in leather (faux or not) with kidney plate, the respirator mask with leather binding (like the concept art) with familiar blowout valves and the main tubing connecting the mask (at the point the filters go in) to a tank either on the back on the mask or on my back.

As for clothes, I still have those WWII paratroopers with the knee pads, (spats or gaiters?) with black jump boots. I am still kind of clueless on what kind of shirt.

Thoughts?

I completely agree on the top hat...it worked for that guy but judging by his size, I got about 4-6 inches on this guy and about 40 lbs. I am 6' and 210 lbs. I am not Tom Hardy big but solid enough. A top hat on me would be like a screen door on a submarine.

I don't want my Bane to be formal. I want him to be that guy in the trenches or the streets. I am aiming more at street thug/freelance military.
