What to do while waiting for molds to set and paint to dry?

Forgery!!:lol

The Goal:

Tony Starks Stark 4 plate.

After finding CA plates through Google, I came up with the following artwork:

plateaina6.jpg

I found a good font for the ID numbers and ended up drawing the California in by hand since I couldn't find a font that quite matched.

CNC'ed the form from 3/4" MDF and laser cut the letters from 1/16" acrylic:

Laser engraved the letters on the form to aid in gluing them down:

The forms ready for V-Forming:

And the first pulls off the V-Former:

Now I just have to nail down the colors and process to get the rest on. Right now, I'm planning on printing waterslide decals for the registration tags.

The ID numbers and California will either be a mask and paint, or perhaps applied vinyl.

Also is anyone familar with a reflective paint that would give it a real "plate" feel?

Thanks for looking.

Krylon has a new reflective paint that is clear. Shine a light on it and you get the reflective glare. You would want to use that before applying the coloring for the lettering. It is cheap, only about 5 dollars a can. We used it to make certain road markings reflective at night. Its this or go with the darn expensive white reflective paint which cost about ten times as much.

Thanks for the info. I've been eyeing the Krylon wondering if if would fit the bill. Now I just have to find some.

About the only change I want to make is the California seems to be reduced to 90% of an actual plate.

Agreed. Also, the actual brake tag color looks teal to me, where as your replica seems to be blue... just a nitpick, though. :rolleyes

Otherwise, the plate looks fantastic and the process you used to make it is simply ingenious! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Looking awesome in my opinion.....I'd soooo love one of these as I hoping to have my Ironman display done within the next month and this would be the perfect addition!!:cool

Careful with this stuff, it kinda sucks. Has not worked in any application for me so far.
Laffo.
