Stargate Universe Destiny Potential 3d printed model

Atlantis and seed ship would be sweet. Seed ship sized to fit with the scale of the Destiny. Also like a good sized model of the destiny shuttle. Tom Preys model is incredible but seems smaller than I'd like. Love to have one that is about 8 inches long. The Daedelus kits would be neat to have as well.

Can we see some pics of final renders of the gates? Totally excited to see what you've been up to.

A super large sized atlantis model would be epic.

Will upload some pics during the week. Good news is cheech, the forum member who provided me with the gate blueprints has also ordered an Atlantis gate, so all gates have two orders now. It's looking like Atlantis is becoming the general consensus for the next model so will be hunting out resources for that while I finish the destiny. The seed ship will be coming down the line at some point regardless and will look at the shuttles once I get a slightly more powerful modelling software to deal with the slightly more organic shapes on them. Puddle jumpers are also an option. Do you still want the gates at 12 inches outside diameter? They've been done at 1:1 so will be scaled to each order then split to fit the printers.

Can we still get the models for free?

Well i did try to offer free but people insisted on paying me for my work. I will consider certain commissions for free, ie. puddle jumper or somingthing small along those lines. And to be honest, in the short term, my money could do with a boost. The amount charged is still massively reduced from what i would normally get. £10.50/$15.50 per hour which would make the stargates alone £150/$250 each and destiny easily around £600/$900. As it stands with two people ordering each gate they are £15/$25 each and destiny is a preliminary £120/$200 until finalised. Atlantis will probably be on par with destiny unless a very very simplified version was ordered which depending on size would be a reduced price or free. Free being the basic shape of the city.

Also, if multiple people wanted atlantis it would be split price like the stargates.

Thought I'd seen something like that out there. The hiveships are that organic a shape it would take a pure surface modelling software with some pretty impressive capabilities to model it. I'm talking autodesk alias level and I don't have several thousand pounds/dollars to spend on a specialist surface modeller. I have the skill, but not the resources. I can take a look at a simplified version on the software I have access to. I can see about getting a slightly more advanced software like catia or nx which might be more capable of handling the task.

Atlantis would be doable, but as I said, the limits in scale for 3d printing and computing power limit the detail that can be put into the city.
ATlantis for me would just be A small piece like the Landing Bay (to put my deadelus on )
a larger scale F302 would be cool i have a kit 1/72 would rather have one in 1/48-1/25 scale

But a Puddle Jumper would be cool too!

Completely forgot about that. Lol. I'll add it to the list.

Anyone considering the Aurora class ship? :)

(sorry about the double post, hit the wrong button as the internet was lagging)

Right, for those people who have ordered gates large enough to require splitting, which of the following would you prefer...

stargate_replica_mirror.jpg

Under chevron - green

Between chevron - red

The between chevron means a seam to try and hide, however under chevron means the chevrons will have to be seperate and it will cut straight through the symbol under each chevron on the atlantis gate. The cuts won't affect the sg1 symbol ring as it will be a separate piece, 39 symbols makes it awkward to split into 9. I've already worked out the rest of the construction so no need to worry about that. Just need to know the split ahead of time. Red line split suits both gates best, just means a little more work hiding the seam but as it falls on an existing detail line and the symbols division plates on the atlantis gate it shouldn't cause an issue that a tiny amount of filler or glue wouldn't solve.

Let me know soon as I intend on getting the sg1 and atlantis gates out this weekend, tuesday at the absolute latest. Universe gate coming next weekend.

segmenting both gates should be pretty simple. Looking at it obliquely you can think of ways it can be done. Have the chevron attach to one of the segments and leave a socket for the other half in the adjoining piece. That way each chevron can be printed as part of each segment. As far as the ring of symbols, you can do the same thing and have the ring as a separate piece. do the same thing as seam it under the three bar separating part. it's what separates each gate symbol. Just need to make sure and have a chamfer on the joining piece. that would be a way that the lines can be hidden and not really have to do too much filling. It adds more pieces but I'd be happier with more pieces than seams down the center of things that would be tricky to fill. Especially the gate symbols. Lots of sanding and filling doing it that way. You should be able to do this same thing on all the gates as a way to segment them. Just think of each chevron as a flag attached to the left end of each section.

Hope that makes sense.

Yeah that makes sense. The destiny gate will be a bit of a faff to do that way but shouldn't cause to many problems.

Count me in for Atlantis after this Destiny project is complete. I would love, someday, to have a lighted Atlantis model about 3' in diameter. That would be the ultimate model for me. Until the next Stargate series that is ;)

Yep, that seems to be the consensus so it will go to the top of my list after destiny. The stargates are first to be sent out, followed closely by the bases and dhd's (don't worry not charging for those, they are part of the stargates) then destiny will be the primary model. I will take smaller models like the stargates on in the meantime, ie. puddle jumper ect once the stargates are out. I could model a daedelus in scale with the 3' atlantis as well. Also, after destiny is released, expansion packs will be modelled and released, so main cannon, shuttles, and solar collectors. The main release of destiny will include the ship with weapons in offline position, collectors retracted, bridge retracted and both a destiny shape base and a universe gate base.

Well, the stargates are delayed by a couple of days as either solidworks has had an argument with me or my laptop has had an argument with solidworks. Sorted now and the models are safe, backed them up on three devices. Just a few little bits to finish then I can start scaling the gates for their orders. Once that's done I'll send out renders on this site and the invoices if people are happy with them.

Having to do trickles of work each night as I'm doing a lot of overtime for my full time job I've come into a project that was behind schedule. Out of the house from 5:30am to 8pm. So the stargates are coming, and so close, just a little while longer.

Still very excited about this. Looking forward to seeing things as they progress. I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. Best of luck with the work overload.

Well this is my last week working double shifts so hopefully no more work overload from now on. Worked three days hours in two days Monday and Tuesday. Did get to work in the Shard in London so not all bad and a nice change in scenery. Luckily I'm not one to start taking money off people before completion of a project.

Sorry for the lack of updates guys, been having health issues that put me out of action for a while. Slowly working my way back into things.

Liking the destiny shuttle in purple by the way.

Tomperrys, your models are looking good.

Captainreynolds, hope your feeling better. Looking forward to your next update.

so i wanted you all to know that i'm starting my build of a 50-70 cm prometheus model and a 1m large deadalus
so if anyone has high resolutions pics please send them too me ;)

Right, a week of annual leave at last, might actually be able to sit and model if I can get a moments peace in my house. And this is my life before kids, what is it going to be like with them? Thankfully no wedding to plan for another 12 months at least, so that won't be keeping me busy for a long while.
Sorry for the unbelievably slow progress, it's been my first 3 months in a new job doing between 45 and 50 hours a week with, up until this week, a 2 and a half hour commute each way. Couple that with the crap I was feeling up until a week ago and you've got a recipe for going to work or sleeping and not much else.
So fingers crossed and we'll see how this week goes.
