Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

Well could you please stop trying to convince all the fans that are actually enjoying Star Wars still that they are wrong? Thanks in advance!

I hope you're not one with the all or nothing mentality. Mr. Keel is ok with expressing is dissatisfaction with IX. He is not the only one.

A fan of OT, PT, or ST or just Clone Wars and Rebels is still a fan.

At least he is here giving IX a chance instead of being snobby about it.

There is a difference with expressing dissatisfaction and posting pretty much the same thing whenever someone posts something positive or new about these movies lol.

I'm fine with people not liking new Star Wars stuff but at some point you have to move on. Instead, some people post their dislike for this movie (that has not bee released yet) on the 1st 5 pages of this thread AND.....checks notes...the 218th page of the thread!

Constantly saying the same negative stuff is not really discussion.

New material is being released such as the trailer. Those people can't discuss it just because they already said their dislikes before?

Maybe I'm one of the few who liked both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.. so I'm excited for this one.

I guess it's easy to get wrapped up in wanting answers to everything when we've had 40 some years of supplemental material to fill in what was originally a series devoid of substantive backstory and explanation. Lucas wanted to make a pulp adventure series in space. Originally he tried to get the rights to Flash Gordon. When that didn't happen, he made Star Wars.

It was always designed to jump from one adventure to the next with only the flimsiest of threads to hold it together. Vader killed your father? Oh, never mind, he is your father. Oh, that girl you're in a love triangle with? Never mind, she's now your sister. Carry on... let's blow stuff up.

Space. Adventure.

Don't get me wrong, I do love to debate plot and character intricacies ad infinitum, because that's entertaining in and of itself, but all I really NEED from Star Wars is spectacle.

Now having said all of that.... I do wonder one thing: What the hell is JJ's obsession with giant ships way too big to be underwater being underwater?!???:lol::lol:

Thank you for your reply, I was feeling guilty that my negativity bullied some members out of here

Which was never the intent

I just don’t wanna jump in on the arguing... cuz I have nothing to add. nothing I say isn’t going to be said over and over.

cuz I don’t get the hate... people lose their minds over fan films and Star Wars that looks exactly like what it is... TV budget Star Wars... but this is garbage?

maybe it is! But that trailer gives no indication unless you already hate what they’re doing. Cuz it’s Rey and kylo and Poe and Fin doing their thing. If you like them, this is more of that. If you hate them, nothing is gonna change that.

I saw Revenge of the Sith on a matinee 2 weeks after it was released cuz it was more of the same. I hated phantom menace... gave attack of the clones a shot cuz it was “new anakin/less jar jar” and it was just more of the same. So I get the not caring.

but I didn’t hate the first 2... and this looks like more of the same... but maybe more fun than the last...

*So guess i did post more after all..

I think my post came off the wrong way, I wish we could talk about this in person so I don’t come off like a negative jerk

I’m hurt more then anything about ep8 and 9

That post meant when the ep8 trailer came out my phone was being bombarded with alerts, same thing for rogue one

I was surprised to see the little activity in the thread when the trailer dropped

I was surprised even bigger when I went to 2 Walmart’s and 1 target and both saw how small their force Friday stuff was

1 Walmart didn’t even have its own separate section of older Star Wars stuff..

I just can’t believe how much has changed

I gotta say something if I could say something. I've been wanting JJ to off the rails with this movie. And I think that might be happening. I just want him to go nuts.

It’s safe to say that no one’s argument in this thread is likely to sway someone else’s opinion of the movie. As far as I’m concerned we all watch the movies and make up our own minds.

Something I find a bit surprising, though, is the apparent optimism of some people here. Specifically I’m referring those who didn’t like TFA or TLJ (and heck, maybe the rest of the Disney films too?), but who took the time to watch the trailer already. Did you expect to be disappointed? Pleasantly surprised? Maybe it’s just morbid curiosity?

I also wonder: is there anyone who’s excited or even interested in TROS who didn’t enjoy EITHER of the previous episodes in the sequel trilogy?

Nothing wrong with feeling that way, I’m just curious. I think if it were me I’d have written off this third episode since it’s a sequel to one (TLJ,) and directed by the same guy who did the other (TFA.)

don’t worry wasn’t taken that way... but not wrong...

when TFA was coming out it was a post a minute... couldn’t keep up... andI was posting like crazy... but third movie of the same people, not gonna be any surprises, even members responses. No one has changed their tastes... so not gonna be any big revelations.

I haaaaaaaaaaaaated Rogue One. But it in no way made me say “Star wars is dead! I’ll never watch again!”

some do that about TLJ tho.,, and it’s kinda nuts

I haaaaated captain marvel, and Every second she was in End Game. End game is still my fave over Infinity War...

I kinda just judge each thing individually.

*side note... this new iPhone iOS makes typing on the phone way worse... what is happening here? Keeps changing my slang to proper grammar... makes it a pain to change it back....

IM DONE WITH IPHONE ! Never again. This iOS needs to be punched in the face. Samsung from now on. iPhone sucks. Imma hate-mail apple ceo, Tim Apple!

gonna go burn all things apple in my place.

jokes.

Anybody post the official movie poster?

I'm theorizing here. It's been said that Palpatines return has been hinted at. So just maybe Snoke was connected to Palpatine. Maybe Palpatine is Snoke or Snoke was a puppet or front for Palpatine. Now Snoke is gone it's time for Palpatine to come out of hinding.

This is the Skywalker story coming to an end. This is all happening because of Palpatine. He created Anakin through the force. Palpatine is the sole reasonall of this is happening and is the core of the story. He is needed to bring a real closure of the story. Although many can argue that ROTJ is the end of it. It stands on its own as the Skywalker ending. But the fact is we have a new trilogy and IX is our end to the Skywalker story.

I still say Snoke knew exactly what Kylo was going to do to him. He pretty much narrorates his own death and talks about Kylo turning his saber to strike his true enemy. Wouldn't shock me if Grandpa Palpatine's essense may have been in Snoke or something like that. Not saying 100% of course, but 100% in my opinon Snoke KNEW Kylo was going to kill him and did nothing to stop it.

That is an interesting thought.

This is one of those things that I think would be hard to pin to just the movies individually, though. I feel like retailers might have gotten burned not from any specific backlash (mostly fan-based versus general public, if we're being honest), but rather from the glut of Star Wars movies one after the other -- Rogue One, Last Jedi, and Solo were all right on top of one another, and really not that long after Force Awakens.

That's a LOT of merchandise to try to move in a very short amount of time, and I know I started to see a lot of discount bins toward the end of the run if for no other reason than shopper fatigue.

That sort of thing could make retailers a little shy about placing another Star Wars order.

Not that slumps on the retail side of things are going to stop Disney from pumping out movies in the franchise as quickly as they think they can fill seats for, though...

Toy sales in general have been in decline for years, same with brick and mortar retail. I don't know if retail space is a good metric to measure popularity of any franchise with considering how much shopping/buying is being done online.
The Star Wars brand is certainly popular, just for different reasons than used it used to be.
