Boba Fett?

I mean, I don’t disagree that it’s the case with Snoke, but let’s not pretend it didn’t happen in the OT as well.
Edit: sorry, I thought we were talking about falling into holes and coming back to life. ;)

Zero back story, Zero introduction, Zero character arc, Zero plot relevance, Zero importance to the continuation of the story, Died like a chump, never mentioned again.
You pretty much exactly described Boba Fett, yet he's still in of the most popular characters in all the films, & when he was actually given a backstory from the man who created the character, everything about it was crucified because it wasn't the head Canon that people expected.

Not trying to be combative. Just pointing out a fact.

Maybe I'm one of the few who liked both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.. so I'm excited for this one.

I guess it's easy to get wrapped up in wanting answers to everything when we've had 40 some years of supplemental material to fill in what was originally a series devoid of substantive backstory and explanation. Lucas wanted to make a pulp adventure series in space. Originally he tried to get the rights to Flash Gordon. When that didn't happen, he made Star Wars.

It was always designed to jump from one adventure to the next with only the flimsiest of threads to hold it together. Vader killed your father? Oh, never mind, he is your father. Oh, that girl you're in a love triangle with? Never mind, she's now your sister. Carry on... let's blow stuff up.

Space. Adventure.

Don't get me wrong, I do love to debate plot and character intricacies ad infinitum, because that's entertaining in and of itself, but all I really NEED from Star Wars is spectacle.

Now having said all of that.... I do wonder one thing: What the hell is JJ's obsession with giant ships way too big to be underwater being underwater?!???:lol::lol:

I get your point but there's a big difference between the "Lone Gunslinger with no name" side character with mystique about him
and the Biggest Baddie Supreme Leader of the Entire First Order with unmatched force abilities that came out of nowhere, took control and rebuilt the ***king empire. One works better with no backstory and no character arc, the other, not so much.

And this is my problem.. it’s cool that snoke doesn’t matter?

Is that fair to the fans?

Just a classic example of poor writing and no creativity
Well considering that Palpatine was in the the works from the very start of the ST.

Snoke was always meant to be a mis-direction. A look at my left hand while my right hand does something else. He's Darth Maul, or Darth Tyrannus, he's the face of the menace, but not the actual menace.

You can tell by the lack of activity in this thread how unexcited everyone is...

I just don’t wanna jump in on the arguing... cuz I have nothing to add. nothing I say isn’t going to be said over and over.

cuz I don’t get the hate... people lose their minds over fan films and Star Wars that looks exactly like what it is... TV budget Star Wars... but this is garbage?

maybe it is! But that trailer gives no indication unless you already hate what they’re doing. Cuz it’s Rey and kylo and Poe and Fin doing their thing. If you like them, this is more of that. If you hate them, nothing is gonna change that.

I saw Revenge of the Sith on a matinee 2 weeks after it was released cuz it was more of the same. I hated phantom menace... gave attack of the clones a shot cuz it was “new anakin/less jar jar” and it was just more of the same. So I get the not caring.

but I didn’t hate the first 2... and this looks like more of the same... but maybe more fun than the last...

*So guess i did post more after all..

If Disney wants me back this is how they could do it

Bring in the rebels crew..

Jacen being force sensitive
Ashoka helping rey train
Hera a general
Chopper!!

You know what's crazy? Ezra would be ~50 years old during the events of TRoS. Dang.

I have no intention of paying to see this movie.
Not because it looks bad (which it does), but because I was so insulted by TLJ.
If TLJ was a person, it would still be eating liquids through a straw.
(because I would have punched it in the face so hard it's jaw would have shattered like prop glass)

Ok, but doesn’t this description sound just like the OT Emperor, though? Prior to the prequels existing, who was he? What was his backstory, his character arc?

I dunno, it seems interesting in a way that many complaints about TFA involved how closely it mimicked ANH, but then in TLJ when the plot regarding Snoke diverged from what had been a very Emperor-like role, people didn’t like that. Would having him continue to be the reclusive force behind the scenes have been preferable? Maybe have him show up in Episode 9 to sit and watch Kylo fight Rey, try to lure Rey to the dark side, and then try killing her before Kylo picked him up and tossed him into a hole?

I do understand that there’s a difference in that the OT was made without anything else in the SW universe existing, while the ST was made within an already existing universe. But whenever I hear that people want more explanation, more backstory, etc, I think back to how that happened in the Prequels, and how it gave us Midichlorians, and Padme’s “it seems she has simply lost the will to live” death.
