"We got ourselves a convoy..."

“Mindless Fan-service for the sake of Fan Service... Assemble?”

I still dont understand why they need to be that close to each other, how they aren’t crashing into one another, or why that god awful B-17 homage bomber is in the middle of them all ready to explode and take them all out if the slightest space rock were to punch through its hull like in TLJ

I don't know why. It seems pretty clear that they aren't that close together. It's just a trick of the "camera", making it look like it has a telephoto lens.

I'm sure since its JJ, the shot will start with wide shaky cam and then zoom to that close shot as the ships mostly all blink in. Also there'll be dirt on the lens.
That way you really feel like you're watching real footage from someone's mom who was Actually There and filmed it with one of those over the shoulder camcorders.

I'm not interested in subscribing to read one article but I'd hazard a guess that it's another puff piece to try and lump fans like myself into the racist/ sexist/ hates everything crowd. The media just latches on and only gets a fraction of the story, often citing to some sort of larger agenda anyway that has little to do with film criticism, which is REALLY the issue at hand and not some stupid political debate. Which is why Star Wars has become so toxic as a brand because people are intent on involving real world politics ( on both sides of the issues) into what is supposed to be fun escapism for EVERYONE.

Sure 9 will make a ton of money with Rey's FLAWLESS VICTORY (seriously they should just have the Mortal Kombat theme play every time she does anything "cool") but there are a LOT of fans who have mostly checked out from this trilogy.

I just find it funny that it's suddenly "cool" to be into Star Wars since 2015 with TFA, but the hardcore fans have stuck it out even in the long years between trilogies. Even with the PT about to emerge in May 1999 I remember my friend and I getting ragged on by the popular kids at school for being nerds. Yet he was the biggest kid in my school, the star football player and got on with everyone. Yet they still gave him hell for his fandom. Relentlessly I might add. Now being a "nerd" is trendy. Back then it meant getting bullied. Seeing Star Wars t-shirts on 50 year old men and 20 something girls is a common occurrence at my work. (I work with the public) Which is fine I guess but growing up it was the kind of thing you had to hide whereas now you can wear it like a badge of honor. I don't get it.

The money that the new movie will make will likely be more from the general audience and some hardcore fans (who either love everything SW- or those or hate the new stuff but are morbidly curious), but fans like me care less and less as the days go on and I'm skipping it. I mean sure, as a passionate and perhaps pathetic dork, I can bitch about it on the internet, but once the new movie is out and it's FINALLY over I think my frustration will start to dissipate. I mean the damage is done. The fandom is split and there is little that could bring fans like me back. Plus I think it's the divisiveness of the fanbase and the way some people choose to discuss the stories that has mostly gone south for me.

Years ago I would have purchased my tickets and would have been buzzing with excitement at the prospect of a new Star Wars movie. I swear I think the last movie I saw in the theater may have very well been The Last Jedi. Going to the movies just doesn't have the same appeal for me since then. Seeing a STAR WARS movie was an event. It was a reason to go to the movies. Maybe after all these years of eating ice cream it's finally caught up with me and I have diabetes. I gotta eat more salad.

Is it December 20th yet?

For those still on board and for those who are still going to give it a shot, have fun all of you! Enjoy it and just escape for a few hours which is all this crazy series was meant for in the end!

I hope the new Star Wars is as good as Smokey and the Bandit II (but that's not a compliment)... I mean, first off, they got rid of that sweet KW for that god awful GMC. Secondly, well, the rest of the movie. But I fear it'll be more like III, and no one wants that.

Well it looks like someone isn't a Colleen Camp fan. :p

As to why JJ’s brought Palpatine back ?
Hmmm, maybe cause Ruin J. screwed the ‘trilogy’ with his ‘ego-driven abomination’ of a film. Amongst so many other things, by killing off Snoke - who was the supposed Big Bad in parts VII & VIII, they needed to resort to this !?

No. Palpatine is back because JJ wanted him to be, from the very start. Lawrence Kasdan and him were tossing the idea around when working on TFA. Mister smoke and mirrors was never going to be the main bad guy for this trilogy.

Is JJ the one who said this? Or is the account from someone else?
JJ and Kathy both have said Palpatine has been in the works since they started on TFA. There's concept art of the DS2 ruins in The Art of The Force Awakens. From what I gather JJ never wanted Snoke to be the main bad. I mean everyone keeps saying the only reason they are bringing him back is that Snoke is dead. Really though? They could have easily whipped up someone new or elevated Ben to the main bad guy status.

It's not like he wrote the script and came up with the story...oh wait...

Yea but they needed to generate buzz and try to get back older fans who got alienated. Let's face it, the direction of the ST changes with the wind. A few pages back you said it always seemed to you that in ROTJ Palpatine survived somehow. Then Colin Trevorrow said that Palpatine was nowhere mentioned when he was working with Lucasfilm on Ep9. Now JJ and KK both say oh we always wanted Palpatine to be this pivotal thing except we didn't even hint at it in 7 and 8.
I'm not saying it can't be a good story but there's no need to write it for them, it's kinda their job to sell the final product.

God I wish this movie was out so we could actually discuss something that is there instead of all this production-related hush hush and speculations...

I remember seeing the wreckage of the Death Star in the concept art. I don't for minute believe that Palpatine coming back was any sort of plan, at all. This is typical JJ being JJ and KK along for the ride. Palpatine was probably mentioned way back then, and now they're calling it a "plan". I can't really put any stock into anything JJ claims.

OK...my recollection of the use of the Death Star II in some of the concept art of TFA was that it was considered as an underwater setting and there was no Harold Q. Palpatine depicted in the concept art; just a setting to be used in the search for a MacGuffin.

As a Star Trek fan, you will have to understand that I doubt the word of “JJ The Magical Mystery Box Man” when he says that Palpatine was ALWAYS going to be in the film. This is the same guy that kept insisting that this guy...
