I've been 100% behind the ST since TFA, and loved TLJ (despite the digs people like to put into people for doing so). However this film did nothing for me beyond some tiny aspects like Adam Driver again doing a good job in my opinion. Ian being yet again high quality, and Oscar really making Poe the best new character to come into this trilogy.

I get JJ perhaps wanted to attempt to skip over aspects of TLJ to smooth things over and bring this finale to more people, but to me he failed by bringing back Palpatine and then creating another brand new force power of healing that does nothing but simply have to happen to make the story carry on.

Leia's saber looks god awful to me, and lacks anything that would make me want to replicate it, let alone like the look of it.

I'm seriously disappointed that they caved in and had to have a backstory of family for Rey, that at the same time provides no meaningful answers or any real sense.

Palpatine being back, ruined Anakin's sacrifice and importance for me.

The digs have been equally aimed at non ST fans too to be fair but aside from that I agree with your take on this movie.

Essentially the Skywalkers end up being utter failures and die in vain. A Palpatine usurps their property, their accomplishments and ultimately their name as her own, despite having no significant connection or relationship to them and not having earned any of it, except for plot contrivances that could have made for interesting narrative choices had they been developed by more competent writers. In all honesty there were some good ideas presented here, but just handled poorly. Only now the triumph of the classic characters has been rendered meaningless and the legacy of the Emperor himself stands on their ashes. They should just rename this the Palpatine saga, because looking on the entire 9 episodes it's clear that he is really the focus of the story. Skywalker saga my ass.

In fairness J.J. had a huge mess to clean up after Rian's movie so I can't blame him entirely, though he did present problems right from the start with TFA. The trilogy should have been outlined and adhered to from the beginning which has been proven now to be a false narrative despite what Lucasfilm wants the public to believe otherwise we wouldn't have ended up here. Kathleen Kennedy has some share in the blame of all this too for not doing a better job of overseeing this, but it's too late to really say much else regarding her involvement.

The result of this movie and now the end of this trilogy is why I have rallied against the continuation of the Skywalker saga. Ever since TFA was announced I just felt like this had better be worth it and should add something meaningful to those movies and not just exist for the sake of making more money. Sadly all they've done is take away from the previous films.

In the end this is what we got. What a shame. What a damn shame. I hope now ST fans can understand where I'm coming from, at least in the sense that we should all expect and demand more from Star Wars as a property and not settle out of brand loyalty.

Review from USA Today gives the film only 2 1/2 out of 4 stars and calls it a “disappointment”.

Entertainment Weekly gives it a “C” and calls it a “ghost of a movie.

I see more and more of the same from other reviewers.

Just got back from midnight release. Basically this movie brings my rating of the trilogy from -10 (TLJ) back to -5. Improvement but still a failure. This trilogy has achieved nothing but actually damage SW as a whole for me. So many plot points to rage about and bring up but really whats the point. The force abilities and flip flopping of characters ability levels yet again leaves me shaking my head. Rogue One and Solo were acceptable as stand alones that worked within the universe of the 6 films. But this trilogy is now wrapped and i think i will shelve it deep down in the abyss and try to imagine it as being a bad dream. Good riddance is all i can say.

I've been invested in Star Wars since 1977, huge formative experience which influence my life.

But I can step back and understand why some things happen. Lucas isn't a great storyteller and he made up things as they went along.

Force was pretty much the same reboot material you get to see every week. Nothing unusual there.
Jedi had good ideas, but then thought it was smarter than the material and they missed the point.

Rise is not the great bookend we expected, the big imagery feels hollow, the movie hoses everything down with fanservice, callbacks and tries to put about two movies worth of material in a single one.

Last Jedi pretty is a waste of about half a film to return to a status quo that has barely evolved since the last film, except that the Rebellion is in deeper Bantha Poodoo than ever before. Rey should have figured she was a nobody at the start of the film and have a last minute revelation about who she really might be.

The first 2/3rds of the film has a lot happening and the last third gets into pace and tries to tie it all up.

It's a weird movie where not a lot happens at a very frantic pace, giving us twists and turns, but little else and then tries to hit us with nostalgia and big fancy imagery.

Better than I feared, not the best film, not the worst, good enough for me.

Well the poll is pointless.

I even went to the frozen 2 poll the other day to get opinions... wasn’t aware we were going off our predictions in this forum.

Oh well. Anyway, FANTASTIC film. Can’t wait to see it for the 5 time today! How many times can we vote? Are we also creating fake accounts to skew?

anyway off to imdb and rotten tomatoes to mess with their polls.

I was hoping for a 'Not going to watch' option.

I'd settle for a RML style "Well that was a thing.." option

I know some of you may think I would gloat. I'm just sad about the whole thing. :(
I mean it really is sad. This series deserved so much better. The characters we've loved for decades deserved so much better... And the saddest part of it all is, with Carrie now gone and both Mark and Harrison being as old as they are, this is what we got. There is no remaking it even if they waned to. There's no undoing it. This is it.

Oh well i'll see if I can catch it this weekend if I can get the time

Why would I vote if I hadn't seen it? It was an inane, loud, soulless piece of ****.

Why would you act shocked that I asked when already there are poll wars happening all over the net with people who havent seen - *question mark*

Crappy to hear thats your view... guess I will know myself tomorrow!

All the reviews are pretty much confirming what I suspected – that all of Abrams' worst tendencies have come out to play. The only comfort I get is knowing that a lot more people see his work the way I have for years, as frightened, unconfident, and soulless cash grabs made by a filmmaker who is terrified that his audience will reject him.

I won't be giving Disney money for this one.

I haven't voted because I haven't seen this movie.
And I won't be voting because I won't be seeing this movie.
I understand I'm not allowed to participate in this thread, because I'm not allowed to have an opinion having not seen the film,
but is it okay with you guys who own this thread if I at least read it?
I just want to know what people who did see it thought about it.
