I'm not sure though. Some shots I see shine in the cracks, and some not. It's deep, so there's def a shadow, so maybe it's dark from that. But also, they're old... At least 34 years or whatever, so they can't be too shiny.

I had not seen that shot. They had one like that as well. Don't know if you have hobby lobby where you are. But I am 90% sure that had that thick banded chain.

Unfortunately no that's unlikely. It's an multistep involved process:

Research
CAD model
*3d print in high resolution wax-like material
Cast print in bronze, lost wax style in investment
Polish bronze
Silicone mold
Inject wax to pull wax copies from mold
Build sprue tree
Invest wax tree in plaster
Melt out wax
Pour in metal to cast steel dice
Polish castings
Gold plate casting
Antique finish (maybe)
Attach chains
Ship

thats a crazy long list!

I agree. The prop seems to utilize a a chain that is just linked circles. Looks very similar to the chain used for the TFA dice.

When TFA came out I was on a dice bender. I ended up grabbing these gold dice off eBay and found this circle chain at michaels crafts.

Thanks everyone.

So we're in production. I'm doing three batches simultaneously. Two batches are gold plated steel, and one batch is pewter. All batches will be gold plated. One steel batch, and the pewter batch will be antiqued/darkened and one steel batch will be left untouched.

A decent number of sets are being made but it is a limited amount and I've gotten a nice size of preorders from you all and Etsy, so I guess don't delay if you're on the fence about this. I really don't think I'll run before they arrive in about 4 weeks, but of course it's possible. Plus, once I have actual photos, I bet a lot of folks who are undecided will pull the trigger. So... Just a heads up and reminder that these are limited.

I'm going with this gold plated 3.9mm roll chain:

Hmm, on that screen shot the rings in the chain appear thin yet wide. The rings in the one your proposing seem dimensionally the same for the most part. I think the important aspect of the one on film is the flat and wide side of the rings.

EDIT: Just saw the chain seen in the art book, and the rings definitely seem more symmetrical than I initially thought.

If we get a choice, Id prefer the steel. Will the antiquing just darken the inner areas, or all of the plating?

Sorry. I didn't finish my thought. Everyone who orders on therpf/paypal and pre-ordered on Etsy is going to get the steel ones. I'll have the pewter for other people later, and for when the steel runs out.

The dark antiquing is just in the recessed areas.

Yea, so much blur happen on screen from the cam screenshots since it's never focused right and not high quality. There's always funny tricks my brain plays on me when doing this type of detective work.
