Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

In this case, LFL has 18 months to change the script to adapt to the situation. We don't know the resolution of VIII, so it's pretty difficult to guess how they'll handle it. My guess possibly a stand-in with no lines or lines that could be used from out takes with her back to the camera, or preferably she's just elsewhere, or it could be the exploding shuttle thing people have tossed out there.

What it won't be is recast or digital version.

Absolutey.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I REALLY wanted to see a live action leia weilding a light saber. I've been reading about it in the books for so long, and following her path into jedi -dom that i'm really annoyed they waited so long to do these movies.

They're not doing that. She chose to stay a politician and general in this canon. They did say that we would see that she has learned more about the Force though. Who knows now though.

I think they can easily fix this without a CGI stand in, just by having her go into hiding or something. For that all they need is a stand in from the back showing her leaving on a ship or something.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

One easy way to use a CG double without people complaining too much about it looking fake and what not is to shoot her "final scene" as a hologram, that way she'll be small and not super clear so it won't be so obvious that it's not her. I can imagine the scene being Leia reporting in and being cut off mid transmission, then the scene cuts to her ship being blown up. Alternately, they could do the same thing without even showing her at all, just mentioning she went on a ship to do something and then we see or hear about her ship being attacked and destroyed by the FO. To make it even more poignant it could Kylo who directly orders the attack on her ship in order to destroy one of the last ties to his "goodness".

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I had a crazy thought. I haven't read this thread because I'm avoiding spoilers.

I was thinking about EP7, and how crazy it is that they worked Luke's ESB lightsaber back into the new trilogy.

Then I thought about Darth Vaders castle from 'Rogue One'.

Wouldn't it be crazy is someone (Kylo maybe?) went to Vaders abandoned castle and found Obi-Wan's lightsaber from ANH. Kylo does need a new lightsaber....

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

Here is what I would love to see of Leia in VIII

Good guys need to find the mcguffin, they have there little round table meeting get there orders and disperse. Leia gets captured on her way to wherever by some of the knights of Ren . 3 or 4 let's say.
They call Kylo holo style , we got Gen. Organa easy peezy .
Kylo warns them not to underestimate her .
Despite her lack of training she is powerful yada yada.
The knights also open a small box and tell Kylo they found this as well .
He is pleased.
Orders them to bring her to him ( which is where the mcguffin is .)
After they hang up
Leia says
"My son is wrong about my ability's with the force you know"
KOR smarts off something like he figures because they captured her so easily pushes her down .
She replies
" no I mean about the training "
Massive force push they go flying away and down .

As they get up the leader pulls his whatever weapon and seems amused
" nice trick , but with Skywalker in hiding and the rest of the Jedi wiped out . I almost feel sorry for you having to harness your skills alone."

Leia " who said I was alone ?
I was trained by my FATHER !"

She force pulls a lightsaber out of the small box shown to Kylo as a relic .

They die.
she calls Luke
" hey it worked, the mcguffin is wherever let's go "

Light saber could ba a small one Leia built herself .
My vote is yellow.
Not canon anymore but used to be the colour used by sentinel Jedi who rarely used the force outwardly.

That would be my Leia .

Luke can go back to his rock and sulk if he wants. Lol .

Different scenario completely. He'd already filmed roughly 70% of his role at the point of his death. They said they had a few more shots and would reduce some and try standins and what not to finish it.

I was pressed for time, but that's pretty much what I was getting at. Whatever her role is, I trust them to handle it with respect and gratitude. Not do more than they absolutely need, just because tney can. People argue the degree of inclusion of Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One, but that is one of the aspects of that movie I don't have a problem with.

I loved Kylo. He was a spoiled prince. jealousy and pride were his flaws. It was awesome.

But I do hope that Kylo is more mechanical in the next one. And that he has the knights of Ren with him. Give it that kill Bill feeling. Like the bounty hunters in empire

I actually hope Luke cuts down Kylo Ren at the beginning of the movie. They could have made a cool villain instead of a whiny baby who throws temper tantrums.

I kind of wish they'd just cut out the whole abeloth plotine in the books and jumped in with the story of the books.

luke, all the jedi we've come to know, and jaina/jacen. only this time have Jaina fall to the dark side and become a Darth and Jacen has to slay his sister.

they pretty much went there in episode 7 anyway, only they left out all the fun EU stuff. considering star wars jumps into the middle of a story anyway, and the books would have done all the back story for them if people wanted to look it up..ugh.

But yeah, I hope they get rid of kylo early. pretty whiny boy with daddy issues.. yawn.

i would love to see obi wan's saber in the castle! but i strongly believe kylo does still have his cross guard in tacked. i was hoping we would see it again, and in the theater i thought i saw sparks when rey hits it. but the second viewing was pretty sure she hits the saber so hard the saber flips out of kylos hand. once i got it on bluray i kept freeze framing it and i strongly believe it was just hit real hard out of his hand

the scene where it shows the giant scar on his face, the camera kinda pans in closer to his face. well right when the camera cuts to the scene before it pans in closer, if you look at almost the center of the screen you can see the cross guard still in perfect shape

i sure hope he still has the crackling cross guard in Ep8. but i sure would LOVE obiwans saber to pop up!!!

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

My thoughts for what they're worth on progressing Leia's story in Ep IX.

The way I think about this is entirely down to how important her role was to be in IX. If it was minor then yes have her exit ALIVE early enough - she decides to retire and awaits in a safe place until the finale. Someone here suggested said that could be done with a hologram scene to avoid any 'digital stuff'. There's no need to kill her off. It would be an incredible disservice and down right lazy to Leia's character to do that, especially in between episodes in the opening crawl.

Yes, Carrie played her and owned her and it's gut wrenchingly sad that she's gone but it doesn't mean she has to die in the Star Wars universe. This isn't real life. She should be allowed to finish her story arc. From what Kathleen Kennedy said in a recent interview, it look's like the usual Skywalker episode structure would end after this anyway.

If her role was to be major, for example if she has anything to do with the redemption / demise of Kylo Ren, then I think it's entirely fair for the film makers to use a combination of less screen-time, doubles, rehashed footage from VII and VIII, recast and acnowledge this with a few heartfelt lines of dialogue, and yes some digital manipulation if that's necessary. I can't imagine for a second that anyone at LF wants to make an uncanny valley Leia for the sake of it and they will want to do it as tastefully as possible. If that's what they have to do to give Leia the ending she was always intended then I would be entirely supporting them and be able to suspend my disbelief for a few mins of screen time... and then probably sob my heart out for days.

much love

M

For the record - I thought the work on Tarkin was remarkable - what a huge accomplishment to the artist who managed to create such a thing. It's childish to make throw away comments labeling it as cr*p. Every iteration of technology has it's limits and will progress accordingly. If we all thought like that we'd still be watching silent films. However, I also think it wasn't entirely necessary to have him on screen that much. He wasn't critical to the story and could have had more impact had he have only ever been seen as a reflection in the glass, for example. My point being if Leia is essential to the story then it's the right thing to do - but keep it short and sweet.

Some of the people in here calling Kylo whiny is the purest form of irony.

Also, I still haven't seen the whiny aspect. I see uninhibited anger and an internal struggle. But the only time he is downright emotional and grieving about his struggle is when he is about to kill his dad... which is probably a fair time to feel a bit emotional about that internal struggle.

Imho, he's a perfect villain.

I would LOVE for them to have Obi's saber in the new trilogy... and use real parts... then go on TV and go on an on about what parts it's made of... then watch everyone try to get parts like they did with the Graflex, only this time they'll be pulling their hair out at how hard the pieces are to find.

Everyone just wanted a bland evil guy in a black suit. Dumb.

They just wanted that last 5 minutes of Rogue One... "HE HAD A SABER AND CUT UP EVERYONE AND WAS EVIL AND SLASHED A GUY AS HE FELL! KYLO IS A WHINER!!!!!!"

Damn I hate fandom.

Totally

Kylo: Had great parents, cool uncles (I'm including Chewie) and lots of opportunities. Result? Spoilt, entitled, "you don't understand my pain!", man-baby.
Rey: Parents abandoned her, grew up alone, had to scavenge scrap for food and probably had to fight off unwanted attention from the guys. Result? Happy, friendly "hey a droid! let me help you!" optimist.
