Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

I suspect the Droid Control Ship, Death Star and Starkiller Base all serve the same purpose in their respective movies. Again, examples of Star Wars movies paralleling each other...
Maybe I would be less resentful if Jedi didn't also have a death star.

It's starting to look like a film series about exhaust ports

Hollowing out a planet to build a massive gun in it would be really silly.

Our planet consists mostly of molten metal. Molten! Hot and liquid. If you would liken our planet to an apple, the Earth's crust would be as thin as the apple's skin.
And even if that hollowed out planet would be a tenth the size of Earth and in a completely solid state then you would still need to expend massively incredible amounts of energy just to keep the top and bottom halves of the planet from collapsing on themselves from their own gravity.
Therefore, I really hope that was we are seeing is like a death star and not a hollowed out planet.
Still. I really hate that it could be either.

I had planned on taking the opening day off so that I could see the movie as early as possible. Now, I'm not so sure that I am going to do that.

My lord it's the Return of the Gun on Ice Planet Zero.
That's a story arc from Battlestar Galactica, right?

I don't think that's a "Death Star" per se. For an organization like the first order to be that big they have to have a huge base. Probably just a mobile base with a big enough weapon on it to destroy larger ships or maybe asteroids or something. It almost looks like a giant lens more than anything.

When JJ said, "thematically, this is very much in line with the first star wars movie" I didn't think he meant that "it's going to start on a desert planet and end with a missile going down the exhaust port of a planet sized weapon"

But Science & Star Wars have never worked

Star Wars has never exactly been about hard science. There are all kinds of scientific fallacies in all the movies, if you're gonna insist on looking at it that way. Seems odd that you would actually alter your plans to see the movie based on the fact it isn't scientifically sound. Lol!

Why do you assume that's how it'll be destroyed, if it is at all?

I remember buying Ep.I merch early and after seeing the movie, just being resentful of it all. I still get annoyed seeing my Ep.I ball cap. Lol!

I learned my lesson! No merchandise until I see the movie!

Your comments were sooo expected ... :lol
Someone is always saying that whenever there is an argument about whether something in Star Wars is plausible or not.

It is not about hard science, really. It is about whether something looks and feels plausible.

There is something about the hamburger-deathstar planet that does not look right. That's what it comes down to in the end.

How so? I'm not judging until I actually...y'know...see the movie. Crazy concept, I know. I've even said I'm not crazy about the fact it looks so much like the DS, but time will tell.

At least TPM had (imo) a really awesome poster! Actually, I liked the AOTC poster too, except that the actors looked shiny. The ROTS poster sucked, because of the "lets tack on a little image of every single character some random place in spite of all sense of composition" that this TFA freshmen art class collage has.

The sound of all those Ties streaming overhead is just wonderful. And that tracking shot between Poe and Finn from X wing to the Falcon in the distance is just so evocative it kind of brings a lump to my throat.

Noticed the mountains in the background look like the same geology as the ones in the shot where the X wings are flying over the water.

Why all the hate again... you haven't even seen the movie yet. "Same idea, another Death Star..." blah blah blah. First of all, First Order IS a "group" that worships the Empire, so why not use the idea of the ultimate planet destroyer weapon...
Btw. I don't think Lucasfilm would be so stupid to make ANH ripoff out of a highly anticipated film. And it's Larry Kasdan behind the story after all...
And the poster is awesome.

Yeah I agree. I personally liked the artwork attached to the PT for the most part.

At this point, I am so excited about luke.

If you told me, three years ago, that mark would be in this I would have said that you're nuts. Terrible idea.

But now I'm so excited I can't contain it.
