Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'm not worried about the numerals, they'll be in the crawl

Look at the other titles:

Its really just the prequels that had dual logos for each film (well not so much TPM)

EDIT: damn....while I was looking for these images Bryancd summed up what I was trying to say in a sentence!!!!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'd wager the episode numbers in the titles of E1-3 came about so people wouldn't wander in to E1 and say 'where's Luke?'. They were trying to go above and beyond to let everyone know ahead of time these were prequels and not sequels. Had they just gone to 7, there probably would not have been numbers in the titles.

So, as long as it's in the crawl it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Not the greatest title. Maybe this is where "Revenge of the Fallen" could've worked, with a few explosions of course. ;)

C',mon, the words "Flare" and "Lens" didn't make it into the title?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

They're using the font from the old he-man packaging! Nostalgia galore!

I think it might be more an original Poster reference. Although the E is different the other letters are clearly from a very similar font. Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 19.36.36.png

ITC SERIF GOTHIC. the straight E's are alternate characters.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'm getting that super exciting feeling back again like back in the late 90's. Another Star Wars film. Midnight showing with people cheering and going nuts. I can't wait!!!

To me, more like the late '70s, early '80s, but I know exactly what you mean. :):thumbsup

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

The title just feels like EU or Fan Fic kinda stuff - doesn't have the same "clunky" feeling as the others. (And I say "clunky" in a loving, nostalgic, retro way).

When we go back to the source of the title style, i.e the serials of the 1930ies and 1940ies, the titles of the OT and the PT are totally perfect, and so is "The force awakens".

What bothers me more is that it unfortunaly rhymes and hence sounds totally corny. For all of you non-German speakers it would sound like "Dee Mahght erwahght". A bit disappointing, but hey ...

I went back and forth on whether The Force Awakens felt like an old time serial title to me. I guess it does, but I also think it remains to be seen the context in which it will be used will be. Still... just not feeling it. Of course, that still doesn't stop my wanting to see this movie.

Don't titles often go through a tweak when being translated? If so, you might be saved. ;)

Yeah, the "awakens" part feels really, really weak. But are there any synonyms for awaken that would work as a stronger replacement? YOU DECIIIDE !!!!

I like the last one. It has some kindness and friendliness to it.

Praying for that tweak. On my knees ...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I think I'd prefer that the title didn't refer to the force at all and be more in line the action/arc of the film. But, we don't know exactly what's happening, so it's hard to judge....

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I thought "The Phantom Menace" was actually somewhat pedestrian and embarrassing when it was announced, but on reflection it doesn't seem at all out of place. When I really think about it, I can't say that "A New Hope" or "The Empire Strikes Back" are any more appealing to the adult side of me than "The Force Awakens", which will also be considered classic by someone fifteen or so years from now.
