Yes, and there's nothing wrong with how any of them look. They look exactly as I would expect people to look who has suffered the stress of rebuilding a society in the vacuum of the Galactic Empire.Have you guys seen Mark Hamill recently? He's gone the way of the Shat, and doesn't exactly look like a Jedi anymore. Even Alec Guinness was pretty trim for an old dude. That's the number one issue I see with a cameo of any of the old actors, is how different they all look. Carrie Fisher is the only one who really looks only 30 years older.
Well, most such kinds of drama works best if they are interwoven with a main drama... making it an undercurrent that affects and is affected by whatever is happening throughout the stories.Sounds like a good premise for a series of novels of comic books but I really wouldn't want it for a movie or series of movies. Some elements would be great to see in the Ep. VII and on but not as the main premise. At most I'd want no more than the first half of the Ep VII dealing with that and even then only as a setup to introduce to new characters whose narrative will be the focus of Ep. VII - IX.
Since you asked, in three years Mark Hamill will be 64 years old, Carrie Fisher will be 59 years old, and Harrison Ford will be 73 years old....if this had been even 10 years ago then I'd be all for Luke Leia and Han carrying the movie but I just can't see Han running around and still smuggling at almost 60/70 years old.
I did say I'd be happy to see Luke in a mentor role but there has to be a passing of the torch in episode 7 in my opinion. How old are the actors going to be in 3 years anyway?
Guinness wasn't exactly obese, but those robes did help to hide some of the excess weight he carried around his waist.Have you guys seen Mark Hamill recently? He's gone the way of the Shat, and doesn't exactly look like a Jedi anymore. Even Alec Guinness was pretty trim for an old dude.
If they were to set Episode VII 30 years after Return of the Jedi, all three of them would be age-appropriate, give or take a year. The problem is that Carrie Fisher's had so much work done on her face that she barely looks like Carrie Fisher these days. That's the number one issue I see with a cameo of any of the old actors, is how different they all look. Carrie Fisher is the only one who really looks only 30 years older.
Seems like a slap in the face to not announce that on any level.
I wonder what the real story is.
It was done without any fanfare. Chances are once Kathleen Kennedy was brought in he realized he was always going to be second potato or worse, she didn't want him there so they did a little forced retirement. Either way, when people complain about the film content, McCallum has to take some of the blame. He came across as a professional sycophant, IMO.
No flame from me regarding that. That's how I see them too, as the old guard the new kids on the block look up to and aspire to be. They should just have a stronger presence than mere cameos. They should be there, like Obi-Wan was there in ANH and Yoda was there in ESB and RotJ for Luke - the mentor who teaches the new guard to be strong and trust their feelings. I don't see Leia and Solo being as important to have around as much as that, but still there and still more than a cameo. From my point of view its not about the way the actors look it's purely an age thing. (Now Garlic hear me out before you flame me :lol) I'm not saying they're to old to be in movies or play supporting roles in SW. If they are going to set it 30 years after ROTJ then they are all age appropriate in real life. If they are putting them in as a jedi master, diplomatic delegate/leader and a gnarly veteran that's fine with me. I just don't want Han Luke and Leia running around shooting blasters etc. If they are going to be in the movies then I'd have thought 30 years after ROTJ they all be in a position to get other people to do their dirty work if you will.
That's what I mean by them passing the torch in either of the ST. I just think that episode 7 is going to be a massive action movie and I don't know if I want to see the trio running around. I mean it's not like PM is going to be able to do it as Chewie due to ill health and serious pain so I wouldn't have thought at 60 odd years old it would be fair to expect the actors to go through that. Hell in delegate/mentor roles if the script is good enough fine let them be the main cast but not to carry the action scenes.
It's not fair to expect movie stars to all look great to teenyboppers 30+ years after their prime.
It's also not fair to expect movie stars to all look great to teenyboppers during their prime either. But we do that.
Casting big-time Hollywood movies is not about being fair.
I don't want Ford/Fisher/Hamill to be the main stars of any more SW movies. Supporting roles are okay but please no more leads.
In fact I would not be opposed to seeing the roles recast, even if the new actors are portraying them in their 50s or older and they are not the primary lead characters.
Han/Luke/Leia were originally played by actors who were pretty enough to be movie stars outside of Star Wars. Those 3 actors are no longer in that category. Without the memories of their decades-younger selves, none of the 3 original SW actors would be starring in movies today. Probably not even Harrison Ford.
Fair has nothing to do with it. I just want the best new SW movies they can do. Maybe that means the same actors for the old characters, maybe it doesn't. Depends on a lot of things.

I know this subject has come and gone now, but i saw this and thought I'd post the link
Here's the story...or at least the official story:
An Independent Future for Rick McCallum | StarWars.com
It's really simple. Luke is an old Jedi that spent the past 30 years rebuilding the Republic and Jedi order. I'm sure that a lot more Jedi survived the purge that could help him. Leia is now an old politician or even Chancellor. Solo could be some top military dude. Introduce a younger cast as well. It is so do-able (is that even a word?). The older cast in supporting roles. Much like Palpatine in the prequels. We were all thrilled he was there. All I'm saying, it only takes supporting roles for the originals to make this work. Introduce new characters that could spin off their own flicks. That's what Disney is after.
Teen Yoda.I think it'd be smarter and better to not spin off existing characters (post E9) but to simply explore the universe. Go back 1000 years, go ahead 2-300, go across the galaxy, etc.
I'd love a REAL OLD KOTOR type of thing. How the sith got started, how the jedi got started, etc.
:lol I can see teen Yoda chaining the rear thusters on a landspeeder to the Ronto hitching post outside a cantina, like Richie...er, Ron Howard in American Graffitti! Hopefully GL won't have THAT much input! Whatever E7 turns out to be one thing is sure, it's going to make LOTS of money.Teen Yoda.![]()
