Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

You can theorize all you want but --

Here - go to Luke's costume fitting and listen to George - it's at 4:29
From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga - Part 1 of 7 - YouTube

then check out the ART OF books for the prequels - I think it's in attack of the Clones but it could be Phantom Menace - they show the Jedi a more elaborate version of Luke's outfit from ROTJ.
And as for Luke not having access to the info that Jedi wore black - so you're saying not only did the Empire kill the Jedi, but they burned all reference to them in the universe??

Maybe he was confused with how much cooler Darth Maul was compared to the Jedi.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't think Lucas ever intended Jedi Jedi to wear black, otherwise Obi Wan would have worn black in ANH and Anakin (in the original ROTJ ending) wore something similar to Obi Wan. Also there was a Luke figure in Jedi Robes that was prototyped by Kenner in the 80s that had Luke in an Obi Wan looking robe. I think it's more likely that Luke had black on to show that he could easily fall like Anakin. It's foreshadowing in the same way they showed Luke look at his prosthetic hand after he sliced Vader's off in the throne room, or when his head was in the Vader mask on Dagobah.

BTW, the EU explanation for Jedi robes is that they are supposed to look like what common people wear to show the Jedi's commitment to helping them and not putting themselves above them (even though in ROTS says some Jedi have big heads at that point).

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

You don't remember it because it was not there. The Rakata were thought to have brought prehistoric humans to Coruscant. The true Sith were not even human.
No offense but to those who only like the OT you lived in a very small part of the SW world oh and seesla73 don't give KOTOR a bad name because you don't remember what happened in the game.

I never played the game nor did i mention anything even approaching the vicinity of the KOTOR game in any one of my posts. I have no idea that yer talking about.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

In ANH, Luke and the princess are wearing white.

Darth Vader is wearing black.

Han Solo has dark outer layers but his shirt underneath is near white.

The Tantive IV was white inside.

The Death Stars were pretty dark inside.

Over the 3 OT movies, Luke went from innocent to adult and playing with the dark side. At the same time his clothing went from white, to gray, to black. Figure it out.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Personally the reasons I don't like (note I don't hate them they're still part of the whole SW saga) the PT is that they relied to much on CGI. The whole PT looks like a CGI movie where as the OT felt like a real place. I think GL dropped the ball on the PT but that's just my opinion and I respect that other people are going to think GL did an amazing job on them.

I think GL surrounded himself with yes men to get his vision on to the big screen and again I can respect him in a way for doing that after all it was his vision that gave us the whole saga. I may not agree with the way he went with the PT but I'll always be grateful to GL for giving us SW and I certainly wouldn't wish him any harm just because his vision didn't match mine.

Luke never wore gray or grey depending on where you are in the world - and the Storm Troopers always wear white - except the ones who fly with Vader - are they evil-er?

Anyway - found a scanned pic online from the Art of book - Attack of the Clones - the two figures visible on the left side are Anakin and Obi Wan - Dooku is in the bend so it's hard to see him - please note how they are dressed - the book also says that it is Typical Jedi Attire

Empire Strikes Back? He wears grey on Dagobah, and continues to wear grey as he battles Vader.

It was basically grey. If you wanna get super technical it was a blend of grey and slate green, but then again if you wanna get technical his first outfit was actually a lot of very light tans. For the purposes of the hero's journey, it's white->grey->black.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

LOL, only on the RPF you will get a discussion about the small nuances in the grey. I love it!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Please stay on topic friends - debates on the PT, EU, etc. can be had in another thread. This thread is about Episode VII and any topic that relates to it's development, production, and release.

Look, I get that the content of the existing SW universe is germane to the upcoming film, just keep the discussion on that film, Episode VII.

Will there be Jedi robes in this film? Probably. :thumbsup
Why did George Lucas make them all brown in the PT? Irrelevant to our discussion here.:thumbsdown

Also, some of us need to recognize the indisputable fact that there would be no SW, PT, EU, CW, without the OT... :behave

No doubt, and the OT is the common ground that we all walk on in this thread. But the SW universe has evolved beyond just the OT now, and people need to respect that while they personally feel let down by the PT, the tv show, novels, what have you, that others do in fact like these parts of SW too. All too often, and not necessarily intentionally, it feels like we are being talked down to and told that our opinion is wrong if we say we like these aspects of SW.

Here's to hoping that Episode VII can bring us all back together somewhat with it's awesomeness so that we all may convey joy over Star Wars once again. If we are talking about what i want to get from the new trilogy, that would be it in my book.

That and a kick-a$5 story and villian and characters (including the best one's from the books, Like Mara Jade and the Kids, both Solo and Skywalker)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

What I want more than anything is good character development, and good chemistry between the characters. I want to care about the characters, and what they're experiencing. That was completely missing from the PT.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Wow forty pages and part of it turns in a fashion discussion?? SW continues to amaze! :lol

One question I don't think has been covered (and no way in hell am I swimming through all the pages to look) is simply this:

If they pick up sometime after ROJ then who will be there? I somehow think while Hamill will be fine to jump back in I kind doubt any of the others will,we know Ford may turn into SW's Bill Murry but I think Fisher may too.

So...what? I kinda hope we get new, fresh stories and leave the whole original crew far behind (as I've kinda said before)

I'm with this. If past characters are included, it shouldn't be for anything more than a tiny cameo. I'm interested in seeing new characters.

His outfit was brown in ESB. If you're talking about when it gets dirty it becomes gray - is it like Bruce Willis's shirt in Die Hard? Same color changing material - maybe mood material. Just kidding.
