Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I haven't seen her lately, but she did lose a lot of weight. Either way, like I said Jedi Leia, put her in a robe.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Or if you have to include them, include their descendents. New characters, maybe not even named "Skywalker" but who can trace their lineage back to the family or something.

One of the weak spots in the PT was how interconnected everything was. Did you know that Chewie was apparently Yoda's drinking buddy? It's true! And Governor Tarkin used to go to a strip club where a young Oola danced! And Lando Calrissian grew up playing with Bossk! And the tusken raiders that Anakin killed were the same guys who later beat up Luke! And I'm pretty sure Kevin Bacon shows up in there somewhere, too.

It just got ridiculous how SMALL the galaxy was. Keeping things focused on the Skywalker clan is narrow. Look at the other stuff the franchise has launched that had nothing to do with Skywalkers, but was still cool. Dark Forces? KOTOR 1? The Dark Horse Comics Knights of the Old Republic series? Anyone check any of this stuff out? It doesn't all have to be connected.

Look at it this way: the story of the Skywalker clan is told. It's been told in film, books, comics, etc. We don't need anymore of it. Same with the Solo clan. Hell, same with Wedge Antilles and freakin' LOBOT (who makes an appearance in one of the doofy Del Ray books from the late 90s). Do we really need to keep seeing "What happened next?!" with these same characters? They got old and died, remembered as heroes of their age. The end. Now time for a new story.

HMMMM... that could be a story / plot twist in itself... Whether good or bad...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well for one thing, I would really like to know the story of the Ice Cream Man running in ESB. We really need to know this man's story, and episode seven would be a terrific way to do that. I mean, Imperial Troops have just taken your city, and you don't care bout nothing other than making out of there with that damn ice cream maker.

;)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

It's hard to get excited by a new star wars after the way it felt like Lucas shafted me with TPM but who am I kidding, I'll still be there opening night for episode 7.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Maybe Fisher lost all that weight in preparation for the new movies? I have no idea at this point. I don't even know what photos of her that are on the net are the newest, but there's some from both extremes.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'd have no problems with whatever way she looks. This is supposed to be the aftermath of a strenuous rebellion and the struggles with the crumbling remnants of the Empire and rebuilding the faith in the Republic... it's bound to take its toll. Just wouldn't stand for it if her role was recast to someone younger. Carrie Fisher IS Leia!

Take some comfort then in the fact that he wont be writing or directing, I understand peoples concerns with actors looking older/fatter etc but this is hollywood and I think it could be made to work and work well. You only have to look at Christopher Lee, he is very old and very weak and yet they seem to have made him blend nicely into the Hobbit. Also say what you like about KOTCS, Ford pulled it off

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I just saw the Roast of Roseanne which I thought was recent (there were Romney gags on there) and she didn't look like she'd lost much weight. But whatever she wants for herself is cool by me. They made her diet down for Jedi - at this point, she is Leia and should be able to look how she pleases!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

In a meeting room at Disney studios..... "Ok, instead of Luke Skywalker, we've come up with a whole new character for episode 7. His name is.....

Jake Landrunner! A wise old man named Bob Ibonek instructs him in the ways of the Force. They meet up with Lars Alone and his buddy Masticatebacca and have to battle Darth Vector, who is after Princess Elia. Whaddaya think?"

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

So does this mean Supershadow was right all along?

Now, that's a name I 've not heard in quite some time. Ha!

**** ME! If Lindelof is in, then I'm goddamned ****ing OUT!!!

Fan favorite my ****ing ass!

Just the idea of his involvement makes my blood pressure skyrocket. What a sick joke to play on people who care about science fiction.

I'd welcome a clean slate, new story, no EU.

Keep C3PO and R2D2 as the continuing thread.

Have a cameo by Mark Hamill passing the lightsaber to a new generation and bring on the cool stuff.

I wouldn't even mind if they had George write the outline and have proper writers and script doctors make it into a proper story with tension, drama and an actual plot and real characters.

I'm cautiously optimistic for this one.

I'm right there with you - I can see it going that way (hopefully).

At least it's not Bay/Labeouf...

I'm just going to wait for official news. There's going to be a tornado of mixed news from many "sources" around the net. It'll be hard to know who to believe and not believe.

Aye. It's a mess out there on them internets.

Ditch the Skywalker clan and forge into new territory.

The Max Rebo clan should be the focus!

I'd like to see an ongoing "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" series with some new stories, adventures, as well as some new, and of course old characters we all love.

One of the weak spots in the PT was how interconnected everything was.

Exactly. The shoehorning just got jarring after a while. It is not like poetry and it does not rhyme.

Am I missing something?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Why do you guys assume the movie needs to take place immediately after ROTJ? They could easily move 30 years into the future and have the original actors reprise their roles and be age appropriate. And then introduce new younger characters.

Exactly, there would be no reason not to do just that!

Actually, it wouldn't work to ONLY set it 30 years in the future, as that would pretty much invalidate a VERY large chunk of the EU stuff. Books, comics, etc. would all be tossed out for teh new films, or they'd have to be made coherent with the existing material...which would be bad.

Your best bet is to leave the EU intact, and throw the series forward, like, 200 years. Then just vaguely allude to have empires have risen and fallen, heroes have been born and died, and a new group of heroes is about to set foot on the galactic stage...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think it's a pretty safe bet that it's going to be set long enough after the OT that the principal actors are the right age, ie, 30 or 40 years, even if they just cameo.

The EU is alternate universe. There's no need to accommodate them or to accommodate the EU to the films. They are two separate entities and the filmmakers should not be bogged down by having to adhere to something that is largely not even considered canon.
