Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I loved it...........I think people forget that all the SW films are really cheesy......sort of Saturday morning kids TV......just like Lucas intended it.

Sure it's lazy with a similar story line and weak elements, but hell I enjoyed it.

Out of 10....ESB was a 9/10......I consider TFA an 8

Best part.....Han dies - Rey is a great new character - BB8 is sweet - Humor
Worst Part.....Stupid CGI monsters - Hux (acting) - Captian FantaPants (pointless insertion)

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Resistance to the mind probe (though not a droid this time)

Solo quoted Lando just about verbatim at one point

Final act cutting between a space battle and a light saber battle, as in ROTJ and TPM.

The original X-Wing helmet Rey tries on

Just back from my second showing... I still think it's a great ride. Thursday night was spent in awe and it took a while for the post-movie questions to set in (although I did think even during my first viewing the movie seemed rushed and it reminded me as much of the prequels as the OT). Starting at about an hour after the premier, I questioned -maybe even doubted quite a few things about this movie... not that it was bad at all.

Again, I see a lot of the PT in this movie. Not a bad thing in my book.

The movie still feels rushed and in someway unfinished. Especially Poe Dameron - I feel like we really missed out on quite a bit of Poe's story.

I paid a lot more attention to Rey's vision this time around. There's a lot going on - a lot of layers of audio. I can hear Obi Wan (this was confirmed to be Ewan McGregor) and Yoda - not sure if that is also the Van Sydow character or not.

Also, not sure if Snoke said Kylo was the "last of" or "master" of the Knights of Ren. I'd guess as others have said, he was the last (although, I thought I heard 'master').

I like that they threw in the line about Stormtroopers and Clones. I feel justified in my stalwart defense of the ST/Clone argument in the other pre-release thread - that line wasn't thrown in on accident, it was to make clear that ST weren't clones - despite Eps II and III.

I loved Kylo Ren's temper tantrums.

I know some have mentioned the score and disappointment. I actually thought this opening night, but instead of it being a score issue, I thought it sounded like the score had been turned down in the mix.

Ren and Snoke sure seem like Sith. It will be fun to see how this pans out - but, I still wish there was some other dynamic that they would've explored along with the new, new, new Death Star and how to destroy it - which even Han and Leia seemed to roll their eyes at the Reb.. um, Resistance base.

The Han Solo we see in this movie seems more like the RotJ Han than the Han we see in ANH or ESB.

Did I miss a 1138 and the Wilhelm?

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Bad guys being lead by a supreme leader (in holograph form mo less), followed in line by a masked "uber disciple", followed by the ranking military general.

The "senior Jedi" of the generation/time placing himself in exile.

Rey's Jedi mind trick

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Star Wars Episode 7: Rise of the Darkside. or Fall of the Republic.

We open with a middle aged Luke searching for a rumored surviving Jedi. BTW his Jedi Academy is doing just fine. He is middle aged but really in his prime. Total bad ass.

After settling a dispute in a local tavern the man with the info arrives. Luke gets it goes off looking, etc.

He encounters a gorgeous woman all in black. Think Sharon Stone in the original Basic Instinct. Or the Evil Queen in Once upon a Time. Sexy but deadly. So hot and enticing you think trading your soul might just be worth it.

A fierce and epic, and I mean epic Lightsaber battle ensues but despite it massive epicness Luke is over matched. He proceeds to get the living snot beat out of him. At one point he tries to escape knowing he will not win and she stops him and the beat down continues.

Just as she is about to deliver the killing strike he throws himself over an edge of something. Later he barely is able to crawl into his X wing. He tells R2 to take him to Dagobah.
Meanwhile at The New Republic HQ Han, Leia, Chewy and Lando are walking along talking business when Boba Fett shows up and shoots Chewy. Ahhhh Han goes after him, Fett escapes.

The Doctors can't help so Han decides to take him home(This was before we saw the Wookie homeworld in ROTS) While heading there Slave I ambushes the Falcon and a huge one on one Dogfight begins. Han escapes as he is focused on getting Chewy home.

Fett is scene reporting to the Dark Woman and explains, per her orders, he did not kill Solo and only wounded the Wookie. Why. Because with them wounded and gone the Republic is vulnerable. They think it's a simple personal vendetta of Fett's. Luke is gone or dead. Leia and Han are gone. The Republic is vulnerable. A few well placed traitors and the Republic will fall.

On Dagobah Luke has dragged himself into Yoda's house. It's cold and dark. Then as Luke lays there shivering a warm glow appears, a wave of a hand and a fire is lit. As we pan up on the Force Ghost it is not Yoda or Obi Wan but Anakin. (Sebastion shaw or David Prowse. NOT HAYDEN whats his face.)

Think Marlen Brando "My Son" scene from Superman. He helps R2 tend to Luke and explains that the Dark Lady is in fact the Emperor's Daughter. The ironic twist is Vader trained her. Now Anakin will train his son to defeat a Sith Vader trained. Lot's of training scenes, father sons chats, etc. Some real serious border on Darkside training as it will take massive skills to defeat her.

On the way to the Wookie home world Han tells Leia of how they met, the life debt, etc.

Long story short the bad guys attack and wipe out the Republic pretty badly. Think Darth Malgus first trailer attack on the Temple. Darth Hottie shows up with a boat load of Sith to take on a boat load of Jedi and we FINALLY get to see an epic battle between the Sith and the Jedi.

When Han and Leia Arrive they find Luke standing in the ashes. He looks harder, fiercer, and more determined. They know he has changed but have no idea what happened to him. Han and Leia seeing the devastation and say something to the effect of it's all over.

Luke says no. There is still hope. Help is on the way.

We cut to a scene of a second large group of Jedi no one knew about in some really cool fighters meeting up with a large Wookie fleet and together they set course for the Republic.

Roll Credits.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Then what the HELL would interest us in the SW universe??? They are the Alpha and Omega characters, and if their relatives didn't carry on the legacy, what IS Star Wars???

Luke wasn't stupid. Damn, we don't even know one single word from him about his reasoning yet.

!!!!!!!

Well I was referring to Vader being Luke's father, Leia his sister, and Kylo being Han and Leia's son, that's more than enough family ties for the moment. The story will work just as well with non-related characters.

Did I say one word about Luke being stupid? My hope for the next movie is that Luke actually has a plan, unlike Yoda and Obi's awesome plan to stick the boy who is their last hope on a backwoods desert planet and never train him until he's too old to begin the training...good plan.

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

Amen. WTH was that. He was more powerful then Vader or Luke. At least more powerful than we ever saw either of them on screen and Rey takes him down. Please.:(:angry:facepalm

Tom

I think you mean "droid please"...

Did I hear right? Did Finn say that to BB8 on the falcon? .....

In a Star Wars movie? A lot to be let down with this one. Seemed like each actor was in their own movie. Oscar Issac was great, in another movie. His charisma and charm were lost in his environment. Leia was a robot, and did She ignore Chewie when he walked past her... After HAN SOLO DIED??? To console REY??? seems racist.

No time to let emotions breathe. Maybe it's 2015 and no one has time anymore. When people die, let US feel it. And when a dramatic peak is about to swell... Like a wave, let it build, and then crush us, and ebb to the next moment. This was clippy... No air between notes. Why not let us feel the weight of finding Luke's Lightsaber? Of Han and Chewie steeping on the Falcon... Of Han DYING???

ALOT to be desired. I think this was a heavy Disney hand turning this into a nostalgia/kid/toy/action movie. Like a pizza with too many toppings.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Well to be fair Carrie Fisher probably didn't want to be there in the first place except for the massive paycheck so she was probably just phoning it in to start with.

Great film.

Few things that bothered me was Rey's force adeptness. She was too good too soon. Perhaps later they will explain.

Unmasking the Sith. No thanks.

I really felt like Han and Ren's dialogue could've been so much better. But it was good enough as well. I wish Han could've had a more heartfelt moment. As it stands, it is just a moment where you see that Ren completely gives in to the dark side

Also, why would only Rey show up to greet Luke? And knew to just pull out the light saber?

Good. Destroying the clone troopers agenda.:lol

Someone also mentioned this, where the HELL are the bombers?!!??

...and did anyone else know both Finn and Rey activate the saber with the upper button rather than the activation plate?

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Let's be honest....Gary Kurtz was right.

It's ALL about the toys. Everything past 1980.

(It's a trap!)

So THAT'S why we see Admiral Catfish back. I got him from a cereal box promo....had to eat 4 boxes of Cheerios. Oh yes it's true.

I haven't read every page so please don't kill me if this has been mentioned,I just haven't had the time. But does Rey at the end where she's defeats Kylo use her anger of him taking out Han and Finn. Much like Luke defeating Vader in ROTJ. She smashes kylo and seems much more powerful and really leads me to believe she's Lukes Daughter.

Oh and that part that Rey pulls from the star destroyer and on the end of her staff is referenced in the visual dictionary as a Star Destroyer Capacitor bearing. I highly recommend the visual dictionary it has some beutiful reference of stuff we only see for a second. I believe there was a lot cut from this film as there is stuff in there you just don't see. I took a pic of my favorite little droid. I have to build one. He's awesome. I soo need to see this film more. I just couldn't be happier with Star Wars. ;)

Poe Dameron's role was cut back once the decision was made to give Ford a larger role. I would anticipate seeing a lot more of him for Ep. VIII. I don't think Snoke is a Sith, the fact that he may have created the Knights of Ren speak to a different direction for their particular use of the Dark Side.

Clearly the Force was strongly influencing Rey and guiding her actions so it made sense for her to go find Luke and she knew the saber was they key to unlocking him from his self imposed exile.

Also, why would only Rey show up to greet Luke? And knew to just pull out the light saber

1. I think it will be explained next film. She Lukes daughter.

2.She found and was drawn to the saber. Again Lukes daughter.

3.it was just more dramatic and she's the main character.

Also luke looks so traumatized. He looks a mess. Like things have really taken a toll on him. Also something else is up with R2 and I'm sure it will be explained in the next film. In the visual dictionary it says while on low power mode he is reorganizing all his data and dreaming his past adventures while on low power.

Ben

Luke just wanted his Graflex back. He's been waiting there all the years for it...no flesh on mechanical hand proves that.

He is soooo happy to see that his and Leia's daughter is alive, he's speechless.

Now I'm just going to read. Remember, it's all about the toys or if you're really lucky, props.
