Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

Hey Tom, maybe make the title less specific to just you and change it to a general negative review thread so mods can leave it open for a discussion by those who did not enjoy it? Just a thought.

Good Idea. Done.

Thanks guys. I just needed a place to vent as I am soo dissapointed.

I figured there were others like me as well.

Thanks again.

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

Thanks. I had high hopes for this movie. I had concerns but I still thought it would be much, much more than it looked. Turns out it was not and all my concerns were just the tip of the iceberg.

I remember when Ep 1 came out it was the same thing. A lot of people said they loved it and I told a friend to wait and watch and over the next year people will come to realize how bad it was and even though many said it was bad from the start many said it was good. Not so much with Ep 2 as people seemed to hate it across the board but with Ep 3 it was the same thing. After a while people admitted it was not good either.

Now rarely does anyone claim to like the prequels.

I was not depressed after the prequels because I knew they did not look good but I waited 32 years to see this movie.

Man what a let down.

I really want to sell all my props and leave this hobby behind.

I am hoping that feeling will change.

Tom

I don't think that will happen with this movie as much though. I have a feeling once the hype settles it will fall somewhere between the OT and prequels. It's basically a greatest hits of the OT movie.

I swear if the next movie has them in a cloud city and Rey has to abandon her training because her friends are in trouble and Kylo revels he is her brother, I'll lose my ****.

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

Try again:

Outside of his tantrums, he displayed considerable "force powers" leading one to reasonably conclude he could actually use his weapon (defend himself) against someone who just picked up a saber for the first time, 24 hours ago. We're talking about a guy who can deflect blasts in mid-air, but Rey is just too much for him. Yeah, Okay.

*Kylo is nothing more than a confused, impetuous kid soldier.
*Rey never touched a saber in her life but with zero training can go toe-to-toe with Kylo

This is talking in circles, right?

Re: The Force Awakens: Special Edition

There are supposed to be about about thirty five minutes of footage cut from the film including a subplot with the likes of Constable Zuvio and a few other scenes on Jakku, a big snow battle with Phasma and a squad of snowtroopers with the Snowspeeders (the end of which is glimpsed with the vehicle parked just outside the door (which they captured during the fighting) as they all break into the base). I think thats how Chewie gets back to the Falcon so quickly, but I could be wrong. The uncut version shown to that poor guy who died a couple of days later was much longer than that released and JJ said he was struggling to get it pared down a while ago. Just how much of that is completed footage with effects work is anyones guess but I assume a "special edition" will be released probably next Xmas.
When people read the book released 1st Jan we may have a better idea whats been cut from it and I think there is quite likely to be a bit.

I keep reflecting on Terminator Genisys, which was a catastrophe. It essentially did the same thing this movie did, half-rebooting and nodding to the earlier films' greatest hits. But while it fell utterly flat in TG, it worked (barely) here. A lot of love was put into this flick.

Best place to get First Order TK armor? :D

Agreed!

I was kinda down on the movie in my earlier posts, but I will say the main characters all did a fine job. Even Harrison did good, and he's been trying to distance himself from Han Solo since 1980.

It looked like a SW film and it felt like it, for the most part. I wish they would have cut down on the OT "winks" to the audience, like the training remote and the chessboard.

Regarding Poe, rumor is that his role was cut back once they knew they had Ford signed back on. They gave Han a much larger role and Poe was the causality. I would expect a lot more Poe in 8 and 9.

Rey potentially could be a Skywalker, I could see Luke leaving her there for her own good knowing the Force within her would give her the ability to survive.

ATM I wonder what the reason for Finn still being unconscious at the end of the movie is going to be.

I think ink the injuries from Ren were pretty severe.

That's right, Luke was practicing that little known Jedi power; Force Impregnation!:lol

I mean, I was thinking they raised the kid for Luke while he did his Jedi stuff, but sure, Force Impregnation also works! :lol

I've seen a lot of complaints that run along the lines of "Phasma /Poe/(insert character from trailer or action figures here) was barely in it! Grrrr!" Well geez, just because the marketing plays a character up, don't get mad if the character isn't what you THINK it ought to have been. Being mad that Phasma was barely in it is like being mad because nobody rode a unicorn. I mean, sorry you built up some weird obsession with Random Character #43 but...there's actually no real reason to be upset about that other than your own damn fault.

Oh, also, and what makes this movie even better in my eyes...

My 14 year old daughter, who hates Star Wars, loved it.

When it was over she was all teary eyed "I loved it so much..."

She was crying.

So yeah, thanks Rey!

My 11 year old daughter's reaction was close to the same and I still haven't gotten her to watch ROTJ because of her dislike for SW...she didn't want to go to the movie last night, but we had already gotten the tickets so she went as a good sport but ended up really, really liking it lol.

I liked it a lot. It did not feel like a rehash of ANH for me. The only thing I thought was lame is Han and Chewie's entrance. I wish they had wrote something a little better than "we were tracking the falcon and it just happened to fly by at that moment".

All in all, very satisfied!:thumbsup

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I'm not as down on it as Tom and others. I can enjoy it for what it is and move on now. Disney will keep cranking these things out now, eventually we will get a Really Good Star Wars.... Having now seen it twice, there is a lot to be desired for sure. The story I can't say much about, it was messy. But there was one very, very simple thing Disney could have done to have made this movie much more enjoyable the way it is... Now I know this may offend.... And man, this man is a Soundtrack God... But, they should have NOT had John Williams write the new score... Ugh! It pains me to say that.... Why did I love the trailers so much? The Music!!! They used the classic themes in some awesome and incredible ways! ... This soundtrack was, and I hate to say it, CRAP!!! The few times I liked a scene was when the classic reference was playing for like 3 seconds.... Then back to uninteresting gobbly goop... Damn... Sorry guys... But the right music could have helped immensely...

Amen. WTH was that. He was more powerful then Vader or Luke. At least more powerful than we ever saw either of them on screen and Rey takes him down. Please.:(:angry:facepalm

OK don't sell the light sabers ...., just send them to me , and I will hold them for you , till that feeling passes !!!! :lol :D

I really seen the previews , and I care nothing for seeing the movie at all , unless I get it on DVD or something..

I will and forever will be a huge fan of the original s ANH , ESB , ROTJ.....that's it , don't like the new stuff and characters and now I hear Han has been killed...well really know , I have no interest , so..I prefer to stay with what I grew up with only !!!!!! :)

I am hoping I will go back to loving my props but right now I want to pack it all up. Sell what can be and burn the rest. Man that sucked.

Why would it be merged with a love fest? The fact that someone has thrown down with an absolute, "I hate it" makes it worthy of it's own thread!
People are falling over themselves to prove who loved it more and why. This on is unique.

Rylo approved! :thumbsup

My EFX Reveal Saber is one of my two favorite Sabers. Sideous being the other. Stay with me here.

The only thing better than the EFX Reveal is the Rylo revel. No light up crystal but better made.

So having the approval of the Luke Reveal Saber man is awesome.

Because man the movie bit.

I'm really curious about Rey's lineage, and when I see the movie for the second time tonight I'm going to pay a lot more attention to Han's reactions. One line in particular that cued me into Han possibly knowing Rey's backstory is when Rey says 'I didin't know there was so much green...' or something like that. Han looks pained when she says it, at least I thought he did when I saw it. It's like he knows she was exiled to Jakku and feels guilty for it.

Anyone else notice that?

Yeah I kind of caught that too. In general, Han seemed like he wanted to overlook a lot of things she was saying. Cant be a coincidence that the Falcon, Luke's map, and her were all in the same place. Or it could.

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

After I first had seen it, I had mixed feelings. I had a ticket for the next night, but by then I hated the movie so much that I got a refund and instead went home to read a book and get some good sleep.
Then during a couple of days I thought more and more about the movie and I realised that there are things that I do love about it. I will go and see it again some time.

The good elements are small details. Unlike the prequels, there are believable characters and some good acting and dialogue. It is the story framework that is the worst part and a lot of that is expressed in CGI and could be cut away and replaced with other CGI. I expect there to be many deleted scenes (or even en Extended Edition) on DVD/BluRay later on.
I think that, if fans would be willing to put some love and work into it, there could be potential for an awesome fan-edit with a different storyline.

Things I found annoying:
Most of those things have been discussed at length in the other thread. There are not only positive reviews in there.

Some things that people (not just you) have complained about were explained elsewhere in the movie. Rey had fighting experience: she kicked butt against assailants earlier in the movie, and Kylo Ren was also visibly damaged when she faced off against him.
The coincidences could be explained by them being the will of the Force - someone already mentioned that ANH was also full of coincidences.

To be fair with that, they showcased the abilities of Chewie's bowcaster with Han "ooing and awwing" over it and then Chewie hits him in the left lower torso/hip with it. I'd like to think Kylo was pretty injured from it and he was definitely pushing himself(and on himself to cause more pain) and draw more on the Dark Side. If the bowcaster did a quarter of the damage to Kylo that it was doing elsewhere, he was probably using a lot of the Force just to hold himself up and together, let alone fight....just my two credits...

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I've heard a lot of mixed reactions online about this too, honestly I don't think they'll ever get lightning in a bottle like they did with the original trilogy again. Unless they can get the original writers back that is. Sadly I think I'll wait for this to be on tv or dvd, other than the original cast none of the new characters even catch my eye.

Yep. I hate to agree as he is the man but the score bit as well.
