Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

.....also looking back,.... GotG was a good indicator on how the practical v CG environments turned out with TFA,....very similar excellent quality

J

OK.....fresh thought.....Quite a lot of people felt a Star Wars vibe from Guardians of The Galaxy,....how does that feeling seem now,....after getting a proper Star Wars fix with TFA?

J

I thought GoTG casting was way too diverse as well...i mean, come one, white guy (pfft, seriously?), black woman as a green one (2 check boxes in one shot!), a blue scottish woman (not sure there's a checkbox for that one), a tree, and a raccon...hard to imagine a category they didn't check off there - even got child in the first 5 minutes. Can you get more obvious???

Both Quentin Tarantino and George Miller freely and unapologetically admit they wrote with a feminist agenda in mind . nothing wrong with it . it brought about great movies and to touch on a problem the wook had with Fury Road every sequel to Mad Max had Max helping others complete THERE missions , they had there ideas and Max came along and helped them get it done !

And it is true that MOST men are stronger then MOST women . but if we based our society on pure strength someone like Snoop Dogg would not be allowed to leave his house!

...aaaaaand there's the misogynist bit. Didn't even take that long to pop out. You're in rare form.

Now be honest, Kristen, are you genuinely offended when a man says to you, "my dear"? Or are you just stirrin' up trouble? lol "My dear" seems so benign, so innocuous. Sometimes I can't tell if you're pullin' my leg or not.

The sad part is I am pretty sure you believe that. You are not trolling just completely oblivious !
I see it everyday to some people every woman is sweetheart, honey or my dear , every Mexican is amigo, black people are bro , and my personal favorite (cuz im tubby ) every fat guy should always be refered to as boss .

Why? I thought this was supposed to be the most PC place around !

unless you like the prequels then you are obviously an idiot of some sort that's all I hear around this place .

We have been told free speech has no place here multiple times.

So stick to it and check that privilege !!!

Because no one can be *that* PC. lol

But hey man (can I call you man??), I've never heard anyone say people who don't like the prequels are idiots. Not sure where you're getting that from.

From EVERY time I have mentioned anything about the prequels !
I have been told we can't dicuss anything in them they don't count or something to that effect there was even someone who posted just to boast how he unfriended someone he knew for years because they liked the prequels .
It seems to be the only topic you can COMPLETLY HATE and everyone agrees of course after the bashing is over you Get the but I don't really have as problem with them myself

Never said you said that though sorry if it seemed that way.

And you probably should have went with the gender nutrial human person to be safe

No seriously though I personally don't care about you calling women my dear or sweetheart or whastever because I don't get people calling me that personally.
but as a fat dude who can not go to three places without two of them calling me boss I can sympathise easily with a woman who is constantly being called honey or something being tired of it .

And since it has been explained that this forum is not a democracy or free speech zone we have to follow the rules apparently .

And PC Principal says it is a micro aggression

This forum is like the Mafia you keep getting pulled back in lol

I just stopped by to tell about Finn's disappearing blaster . and here I am probably chumming the waters for a troll.

Can you really say Finn is an unnecessary character? He's one of three main protagonists to carry on the next trilogy. If Finn is removed from the film, what do you have? Nothing. The events that occur because of his presence alter the entire landscape.

i dont think they can get rid of Finn, he's the kinda of character the "every day person" can relate to. i wouldn't say he's the comic relief... basically i think he's the winston zeddemore in TFA

I kinda figured while Rey, Luke, Chewie and R2 were doing their own thing, Poe and Finn, along with BB-8 would have their own bromance adventures. Maybe throw a love interest in for one of them.

Are you writing these movies or something ?
You keep answering with an air of fact about things that I don't think are written in stone yet by the people actually making the movie .
.

Go back and review every prediction I made for this film and get back to me.

John and Daisey have been the focus of the TFA marketing by design. Of all the new characters, no one has received as much press as them. That's intentional, Disney wants the public to focus on them and the film clearly puts them front and center. They have the most screen time and drive the entirety of the story.

The blaster Han gives to Finn disappeared !
He was helping those two (guys?) load their ship when the attack started. He'd apparently put the gun down while he was hauling boxes.

But it does make the whole Han giving him a gun thing rather pointless. Not sure why Han needed to be the armory for the new kids, story wise.

...the fact that films like Transformers make billions of dollars, and friends of mine -- people whom I regard as intelligent people (most of the time) -- say "Oh, it's a fun movie! Lighten up!" it just enraged me. The thing is, I came to realize that no amount of me saying "But don't you see?! It's a BAD movie! It's crap! It's not fun, it's just big explosions and stupidity for 2.5 hours!" would convince them that it wasn't fun. They knew it was crap. They knew it was dumb explosions. They just didn't care and enjoyed the film anyway. The stuff that I saw as such glaring, obvious, inexcusable problems...they acknowledged existed, and still didn't care about...
I realize this wasn't your intent, but I think you may have finally explained (for me) why some people are condemning The Force Awakens for being a remake of A New Hope, yet praising Mad Max: Fury Road without acknowledging it's a remake of The Road Warrior. They don't care that Mad Max is the same crap in a different bag, they just wanna' watch stuff git blowed up real good!

Finn still had the rifle slung on his shoulder while boarding the ship, when he saw the shot from Starkiller. He also still had it when he took the lightsaber from Maz, the shoulder strap was clearly visible, but was missing when he emerged from the castle rubble. As for Han being the armorer, he had the guns and thought they may need them.

You don't have to look far to see that certain types were advocating boycotting the film because of a (gasp) black Stormtrooper.... because (and this is an actual quote here): "because it's nothing more than a social justice propaganda piece that alienates it's core audience of young white males." I can imagine that these types would also be ticked off about a female protagonist.

Racism, sexism... whatever. Sometimes I'm just disgusted about how little our society has progressed. People really get ticked because someone in a movie is a female - or black? That's pitiful - you're just looking for you to be offended.

"Oh, that's people being PC." No, that's people being real - not everything is about someone having agenda. Women are an active, contributing, established part of our society... so are black people, so are Asians. Etc. Etc. Maybe the world you associate with is all caucasian, sorry folks - that's just not reflective of our world - maybe it is of your narrow scope (and justifying it by saying "my friend is this, or I dated that" is often you attempting to justify your latent prejudices).

I'm not a fan of this PC kinda stuff - I hate the term, I hate the idea behind it. What I'm less a fan of is people being ******** - folks who tend to get caught up in race, sex, or crap like that. People who hide behind trying to be un-PC or think we play it too safe as a society. No - it's called not being an *******. Stop using being "PC," start being human, stop being an *******.

"But, you don't understand... um, Star Wars is this . Not that. The world is this way, not that way." The original Star Wars was made 40 years ago now - it's a different world now and Star Wars reflecting that. "But, that's PC," no, that's how the world is - we aren't all a narrow-minded a simple reflection on one aspect of over 7 Billion people.

"This is all a part of the Hollywood PC liberal agenda." That's what I'd expect a Fox News/Alex Jones/OAN type to say - the type that looks for conspiracies and always find them - even and especially if they're not there. Without delving too far into the political nature of all that - it's white men telling white me to be afraid of things that aren't white men. The real scary thing is people believe the nonsense and hate they spew.

In the end, it's just a damn movie. A solid, fun movie that I've now paid to see 6 times... and I bet I'll see it another few more before the it leaves the theaters.

I also disliked The Revenant because it was anti-Ursidae-American, Sisters because it was anti-brother and The Martian because it was anti-Saturn.

I've been having a discussion with someone about something, and wanted to see what the general consensus here was-

Did you think it was supposed to be clear and obvious from the start that Snoke was a hologram, or did you think he was a giant being, or did you feel it was ambiguous? I don't know if it had some influence whether you kept up with spoilers beforehand or whatever.

I didn't think it was clear he was a hologram until a little later when we saw the hologram flicker, because to me he didn't look anything like an OT hologram, he was opaque, fitting in as part of the scene with the chair on the ground, the same lighting as the scene, and he's even blocking the light rays coming in from the roof, instead of the transparent blue glowy look with scanline effect of the OT, with the floating disembodied jittery look. Even with the context of the Vader/Palpatine parallel I think it was at best intentionally ambiguous whether he was a hologram or a giant.

Someone else argues that it was instantly obvious he was a hologram, because his hologram looked exactly like the holograms in the OT.

What did everyone else think on first viewing?
