Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

There has to be some underlying reason for The Wook to be so invested in hating the film that he ignores any hint of rational posting refuting his stance that the film is crap. He even saus that he doesn't read other members post fully; probably because his adherence to his hatred might be jarred by any ideas that aren't in agreement. Plus his almost irrational need to protect his hatred with reasons that others find somewhat neurotic. Perhaps he had so much hope that the film would, shot-for-shot be what he hoped it would be, that the reality of the finished film was just too much for him to accept ... Sad, really ...

Here's the thing, The Wook , that's just your belief (about the damage being done). In reality, this movie is relatable by more people than any other Star Wars movie. This film has a much wider, diverse fan base, including women and children, that have never felt a connection to the SW universe before. You are well within your right to have your opinion of the film, but to claim it to be the disaster you say it is is simply not true.

:lol You guys act like I'm the lone dissenter in the world! Most of my friends hated the movie--a few loved it. And there have been plenty of members here on the RPF who also agree with me that it was a trainwreck. I'm just amazed at your intolerance. Is it really imperative everyone see things your way?

What a boring world that would be.

I think The Wook wanted from this film what many of us wanted in the mid-'80s after ROTJ -- to see what happened next, to actually see all the stuff that we didn't get in TFA... Luke setting out to train new Jedi, Leia and Han having to deal with their very different backgrounds and senses of duty, the Rebellion fighting to establish a New Republic while the surviving Empire fought on to preserve itself... All the stuff we had to catch up on now that we're thirty years later.

And, because TFA had to do that as well as introduce the new generation of characters, and all in one film, they kinda did a messy job of it. Some of us can forgive that, and some of us can't. *shrug*

This is perhaps my favorite visual from the film. Just stunningly beautiful.

That one stuck out to me too. Kinda like a sore thumb. It was awesome, but the lighting didn't really fit the lighting of the rest of the scene.

Am I mistaken here? But that was the only shot during that battle that felt like a hot sunset.

When I first saw it, I assumed that was from jakku. And when they left jakku in the film I assumed they were going back because we hadn't seen the shot yet

That would've been cool. But if it had to be, per Disney's orders, a derivative reboquel, then it could've been MUCH better--because it's awful as is.

I agree. I think the lighting was off in much of the film. Just add that to the lengthy list.

yes but don't exaggerate. In our own RPF poll of favorite movie, box office, critical and general fan reaction, all tell a contrary story. You don't get to own that narrative, you are in a small minority.

Nice touch on the Starkiller Base's weapon looking like it's still cooling down from firing earlier in the film. You can see smoke and chard landscape surrounding the emitter when the X-Wings come out of hyperspace. Never caught that.

It seemed like a very Abrams thing. "I want this cool apocalypse now image of tie fighter" without actually thinking it through

Which brings into question, once again, the taste of the masses. ;)

The Wook

Then that brings into question if you are an stuck-up elitist. Thinking your opinion is objective scientific fact that is better and rules over everyone elses.

Always remember, no matter who writes, directs, or produces these movies, there will always be a percentage who hate them. How high that percentage will be is the question.

I'll have to check but I'm sure I read in the art book or somewhere else that's exactly what he wanted. It's one of my favorite shots of the film to. Whether it works or not I think it does but I'm a sucker for Apocalypse Now and Star Wars. The other shot I love is the opener where the shadow of the star destroyer is emerging over the planet. It just sets a good tone right off the bat.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the image. But existed outside of the scene. That light quality was nowhere to be seen anywhere else in the battle.

Kinda like the part in TDKR when bane leaves the stock exchange in the day time and it becomes night within minutes of the chase

Yeah I get what you mean. ;)

Oh and damn it I've never noticed the Bane stock exchange scene. Now I'll always notice it. Thanks. Lol
