STAR WARS - The Acolyte lightsabers

We've come full circle. The new lightsabers are big to accommodate the electronics for the practical blade effects. In the original movies they were big because they were based on real world objects that could fit the motors for the blade effect (which was abandoned in Empire Strikes Back). During the prequels they were made a smaller diameter to make them more comfortable for the actors and stunt people. Now they're big again to accommodate the batteries and electronics.
I think that's exactly what we're seeing. Practicality first. Meh. I hate them.
 
Not seeing anything there about lightsabers becoming plain and boring.
In the comics, it's specifically discussed that they start using 'battle sabers' that aren't as ornate because they are faster to produce and there's less worry about losing one.

Kind of makes sense to me.. sith haven’t been around for 1000 years… lightsabers in this time area may just be for show
