Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

The ST is what you get when you let fans write a movie: a mess that tugs every which way. The PT had a long lasting effect with the main flavor being "disappointment" so LucasFilm tried playing it safe with TFA, basically rewriting ANH, before trying something new (like the PT did) with TLJ. Fans showed a lot of backlash with the new so LucasFilm went back to the safety of nostalgia and we got ROS. The only thing that LFL got out of the entire thing was a mountain of cash, and learning that the fandom doesn't have any unified "wants" but sure as Hell can agree that they hate Star Wars.

Underestimating how much love there is for the PT is a big mistake for Disney. I think they are starting to realize that people in their early 30's and below grew up with PT,OT and the clone wars cartoons and consider it all to be star wars. They don't sperate it into PT vs OT as much as people who grew up only with the OT.

It’s also impacts the weight of what happens on screen. We know Alderaan is peaceful, and the home to our heroine Leia, so there’s a certain amount of horror that it could be destroyed without much regard. In the ST, we have no idea what these five planets are that are destroyed. No one on screen has any connection to them, and we genuinely give them any importance in our minds. I shouldn’t have to read three novels, and 20 comics to go “oh crap, Hosnian Prime was a huge loss to the New Republic.”
The destruction of Alderaan was one thing I felt really needed to be redone in the Special Edition, and I'm miffed it wasn't. Rogue One did a better job of imparting the, forgive me, impact of it. The Star Wars manga and the graphic novel adaptation of Lost Stars convey what I wish we had seen -- the blast piffing through the clouds, impacting the surface, people reacting, and then the colossalness of an entire frikkin' planet coming apart under the energy of that blast (remember, right-to-left for the manga):

The EU added a bit to the awfulness by having Tycho talking to his family on Alderaan when the call dropped. Since his dad was in the industry, he rolled his eyes and was going to give him a hard time over the technical failure next time he talked to him. And then, a while later, he found out why the call had dropped. That's the level of human impact that was missing from way too much of Star Wars. In the first film, we saw what happened to Luke's entire existence -- first with his family, then his mentor, then his best friend since childhood. In Empire... I mean, dang -- whole movie's a series of staying ahead of all the down notes. Jedi was the beginning of feeling like the impact of events on the characters -- and, through them, the audience -- was getting dialed back.

I’m going to hound on this too…If you could see the huge laser beams coming, why didn’t they move the capital ships? We will lose the planet regardless, but let’s toss the fleet into the line of fine for fun.
TO be fair, that whole effect was weird. Somehow it was visible as a slowly moving energy blast all across the galaxy, but it was supposed to be representing a hyperspace-delivered weapon discharge. There should've been no reaction time, and a clearly shown reason why not. In its way, as badly conveyed as the high-speed pursuit in TLJ that appeared almost motionless due to lack of external referents.

I think he got fired from some leaked video of him catching an oral transaction from his wife. Hackers posted it on his twitter if I'm remembering correctly and Disney fired him.

Well, since this will be another live action Rebels show, and how Ezra and Kenobi crossed paths in that one, I assume he’ll be on this one too. We’ll probably get Kanan as well in some form.

Ezra would be a small child and still living with his parents on Lothal when this takes place, so I doubt it.

So a nearly 40 year old make up effect that worked better in 1983 can't be improved upon in 2022? C'mon, that's just silly. Prosthetic make up is better than it's ever been. If they can do better, they should.
I'd also say there's a difference in the focal star of the show wearing it than a charact who has to do it for 30 seconds. Many more issues to deal with when you're talking your main star.

Ehh... From what I've heard, criticism aside, KK likes to force her foot in the door on a lot of things. Will be interesting to see how this effects the end product if true. I'm also curious if the original script will leak online, if it hasn't already.

SOOOOOO I've proposed this question before regarding StarWars, especially ever since Disney took over.... and maybe its better suited to the general StarWars thread, but its related to this....

What BAD actually happened under the Galactic Empire? like when compared to the Old Republic that makes it such a time of suffering? Like besides order 66 killing all the people with shiny swords and religious superhero powers and dead younglings. And I mean in the film media itself, not any tertiary marvel comic slop... At the moment, its seemingly really just dead Aunt and Uncle, Alderaan being blown all to hell, The Battle of Hoth and Cloud City being taken over, yeah??

Reason I say this is Disney, with the help of Dave Filoni in the preceding years, tend to present the Empire, and especially Stormies, as otherwise incompetent and or barely able to put 2 +2 together.. Its a trend that I absolutely despise, because idiots don't take over the goddamn galaxy.... It just doesn't happen.. They're criminally smart, calculating and deadly...
Thrawn, as hes presented in Rebels for example, should be the STANDARD of inteligence for the Imperial Officers. And Thrawn himself leagues beyond that...
How the Empire is presented in current StarWars really almost has a backfire effect on itself in its own somewhat virtue signaling manner. The hero's are intelligent and overcome through no other means than they believe in 'the good', while the bad guys are bumping into each other or make idiotic calls because they believe in 'the bad', and only idiots would ever believe in 'the bad'. In the end the hero's never really struggle or learn, and their powers or strengths never feel earned or their character arcs that relatable. Its something that ended up plaguing the sequel trilogy to the point that the only reason that TLJ's "story" even happens is because the bad guys weirdly deliberately choose to shoot at an empty base on a planet that can’t even go anywhere, rather than the helpless ship full of targets in front of them.... It's insane.

edit: This is going to get me into a 'Stormies actually do aim well in the OT, they're just under strict orders from a guy who will murder them to let our Heros go, or to capture them alive to help Vader turn Luke to the dark side... Its right in the damn movies!' rant
20 idiots can't take over a galaxy, no. 20,000,000,000 idiots can. You just gotta have the numbers. That said, you started to see the bad in S1 of Bad Batch - and, uh, don't forget, they were going to capture of kill Jyn as a kid in R1, blew up a planet 'to see if this thing works' in R1, blew up another entire planet to make sure the death star plans didn't get out, then blew up Alderaan a bit later to piss of Leia and show the galaxy the thing officially worked. I'd say that's plenty bad.

All the idiots have to do to make life miserable for everyone is basically nationalize everything, make all money but there's worthless and don't give any of their money out - or give you like a quarter for a days work.

I equate NASA with Disney (or the other way around:rolleyes:) Some gossips circulating on the Web (maybe click bait) that Gina will be in the next Mando.

I would put good money that she will never appear in a Disney project ever again. Her personal beliefs aside, she literally gave Disney a big F U. They're not going to invite anyone like that back to play in their sandbox again.

There is no way she's going back if they asked her on principal alone. Her character wasn't that important to the entire story anyways so why would they even bother asking?
