Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

You have to feel bad for the original Bail Antilles. He’s now missed opportunities at the prequels, rogue one and potentially even more Star Wars. I’ve always believed George let him go because Liam Neeson loudly said on set “That is the worst American accent I have ever heard” as a joke. George went into hyperdrive and searched for someone with a real American accent. Didn’t even bother implementing the lucas’ special of dubbing a UK accent with an American one.

So who did they get to replace him?

If you were meaning he was replaced by Jimmy Smits,….he played Bail Organa

Bail Antilles & Bail Organa where two different characters from Alderaan

Part of the magic of William's music is it's so universally beloved. I run constantly and his songs are on most of my playlists. Lat year just after finishing a race I took my headphones off and was catching my breath. The guy I was neck and neck with through most of it immediately started laughing, held up his phone and said "Superman? Me too!"

Actually, that’s not correct if you look back at the relevant articles. Sorry, but I think you’re misunderstanding what I wrote. I said how Dunbar was Bail Organa at the time of the Phantom Menace and was the recast by Lucas with Smits after phantom menace. That’s all correct. It’s corroborated by articles and books released early or near contemporaneously with the movie. It seems like your statement reflects Lucas’s retrospective change. Lucas made this change after the fact because Dunbar never appeared in the movie. This doesn’t change who originally was cast as Organa and appeared in marketing materials as Organa at the time of the movie.

Adrian Dunbar was cast to play Bail Organa and was originally set to be in all three prequel movies. Lucas retrospectively changed this and his character’s name after he recast Dunbar with Smits. I remember this from when the phantom menace was released. Before the movie was released, I read early articles that dunbar’s character was named bail organa and was noted to be Leia’s adoptive father. Early photo books also listed Dunbar as Bail Organa. See these sources for additional background.

My kids can identify Williams music when they watch movies for the first time like Superman and the first Harry Potter, because of their love of Star Wars. The greatest movie composer with the most iconic scores of all time. I’m just happy to hear he’s briefly emerging from retirement for the sake of the Obi Wan show.

Let’s not forget his other overlooked accomplishments: original score to Gilligan’s Isle (well at least for the pilot) and father to Joseph, member of Toto.

Ah OK

Maybe George had too many Northern Irish accents in the film….if you watch the films in numerical order, (Episode 1 at the beginning), the first two people talking have Northern Irish accents

He was one of the best parts of the entire PT...although I don't think he was necessary. He should've been combined with a slightly older, Jedi Knight Obi-wan, imo.
Well I think the difference being that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had very different views of the Jedi as an organization. Dave Filoni went on a great diatribe about Qui-Gon at the end of the second episode of the Disney: Gallery show.

Right. I think it would've been just fine if Obi-wan was the one with the different views rather than making another character.

I agree. I mean if we're being frank, the prequels themselves were totally unnecessary, but if I'm looking for the upside of things, Liam Neeson was a favorite element in those films.

But would that not run into the greater problem of not being how Obi-Wan was portrayed in the OT? As he is training Luke he still has complete faith in the old Jedi teachings. That would be an odd character un-development.

On such a basic level I don't think the training itself would be at odds even if he had differences with the greater dogma of the order. I don't think he says or does anything that Qui-gon wouldn't have in his place in the OT.
