STAR WARS - "Fast tool?"

Are any of you modelers familiar with the material "Fast Tool"? It was used by John Dykstra's team on the first Star Wars for the breakaway (pyro) ships - Y-Wings, X-Wings, TIEs. I've tried to find out more about it (and confirm the spelling) but have come up empty. Was hoping to achieve some enlightenment here.

Much appreciated.

Not sure of the name, but I'm wondering if you are referring the self skinning foam they used for a lot of the models. Was originally developed for use with prosthetic limbs. Had a fleshy brown tint to the material.

Where did you hear about it? What's the quote? It might be a process, not a material. Like 'we used a second rate tooling for the ones we were gonna blow up'.

If it's a name then it sounds suspiciously close to a modern urethane 'tooling board' name. Also interested in the source for this.

That's what I'm thinking, and no, it wasn't around back then as far as I'm aware. In fact the selfskinning foam used for the SW ships, and some Galactica ones, was supposedly one of the first commercial urethanes of any kind to become available, according to someone or other. They'd have used regular urethane resin but it just didn't exist yet. Someone correct me if I have that wrong.

Thanks guys, for all the help. It's appreciated. More forthcoming.

It was described as a "mold-making" material but that's all I had. This discussion certainly helped out, though.
