Star Wars: Bloodline **Spoiler Discussion**

... Yeah, it's just a revealed to everyone else that Luke and Leia are Vader's offspring. Freaks em all out. Guess they hid that bit of info from everyone for the last 24 years since Endor. The politics are well written. A divide between the Centrists ( who want more centralized control) and the Populists (who want more individual planet or systems control) The only problem is you kind of see the same inefficient, polarized, beauracratic bull that took place in the Old Republic. ... Things haven't changed much today. :rolleyes

I wonder if the galaxy doesn't trust Luke... If they are giving leia a hard time, I imagine Luke is on the ****list as well.. So did the new republic throw her out? This is where I am confused. I thought the new republic thought leia was nuts, because she kept insisting the empire would come back and the NR needed a army just encase they did. With her so admit about the empires return she came off kooky and the NR kicked her out

i was under the impression the NR had no army.. And didn't believe they needed one since democracy was returned. And that leia and the new resistance was a under cover secret group, who had antique weapons and ships and stayed in the darkness waiting for the empires return so they would be ready for them.

in TFA Hux has a few lines that makes me think the NEw republic and the new resistance are working together?! Can anyone clarify to me the relationship between the new resistance and the new republic?

Oh, they go after Luke too, but since he hasn't "done anything" after the Rebellion disbanded (ie, go into politics), it's hard to say that he's a power-hungry wannabe new emperor like they do with Leia.

The new Republic DOES have a military, but it's relatively small as there's been a push to de-militarize with the overthrow of the Empire.

So basically, Leia stumbles upon evidence that there is an Imperial remnant out there building up with less-than-altruistic feelings toward the New Republic, but the revelation that she's Vader's daughter basically destroys her credibility and after a convenient scapegoat shows up, the New Republic refuses to believe there's any further danger from this remnant. Leia becomes seriously disillusioned and basically says 'F-it, I'm going to gather a group of like-minded people I know I can trust and start preparing for when we're needed" which is the start of the Resistance. She has some allies in the New Republic who feed her intel and assist as they can, but the Resistance is definitely meant to be a separate entity.

Thank you for explaining, it sounds like a good read. I'm probably going to have to pick it up, I'm curious as to them going after Luke too

It's brief because another Senator who is still well-respected and whose people are known for revering the Force, points out that Luke has done dick-all and made no effort to take power for himself which is what the people going after him and Leia were intimating they were doing.

More germane is this book makes it very difficult for Rey to be Luke's kid.

How so?

firesprite It's set 4-5 years prior to the events of TFA. Ben is still Ben and with Luke. The destruction of Luke's academy hasn't happened yet. Rey would be a young teen at this point. When we see her in the flashback being left on Jakku she is about 6. If all was well during the time of the book, why would Luke have abandoned her in Jakku almost 8 years earlier?

tick tock tick tock... hmmmmm

... True, this book opens up natural questions about Rey. She would be about 13ish at this time. She would have been on Jakku for about 6 years then. Why then did she have that Force vision of Kylo and the Knights of Ren killing all the Jedi/ Padawans? Why all that info scene by Rey? We don't know what's going on with Luke and Ben at this time. Leia is sending messages to them, but not getting a response. It's implied that they are searching out Old Jedi temples and artifacts, but that is only what Leia assumes from her perspective. Could the massacre be happening simulataneous to the events of this book? Lot of questions.... There still has to be a connection with Luke or at least the Skywalker lineage. Why else have a Force vision so filled with that kind of background info. Could Luke have had a vision or sense of Rey's destiny as a young child? Or felt the need to hide her because he sensed danger in the future in general and wanted her hidden but protected? Ugh lots to think about

I don't think those are Jedi kylo and the Knights have slaughtered. just my own personal belief, there looks to me hundreds of body's on the ground I don't think Luke's academy would have that many Jedi in training

I have no facts to back this up, just a personal belief

I didn't know about the hint towards kylo and Luke hunting old temples and artifacts...

maybe that's where kylo got the idea for the cross blade, he saw a old one in the temple

heck.. heir to the Jedi wasn't Luke given a crossguard? I bought the books and had a hard time finishing it.. found it very boring and stopped about 3/4 of the way through

Yeah, depending on the Author it can be a chore sometimes. Claudia Gray is a top notch SW writer. I would read anything she's written. She's fast becoming my favorite new canon author. ... I don't think the massacre could have been just regular folks, but you never know.. You might be right about the crossblade being the result of they're force object hunting. You get a glimpse of the First Orders reveal here, but what is Snoke up to at this time? Not explained. Han doesn't have the Falcon. Chewie is on Kashyyyk. Leia is known in the underworld as the "Hutt slayer". After reading this book I really feel for Leia. She's a tragic character. Tortured by her real father. Forced to watch her adopted father /family killed. She longs to be with her husband, but too duty bound to fighting evil in politics, then in the Resistance. Considered a danger after her she is revealed to be Vaders daughter. She loses her son to the Darkside. And then her son kills her astranged husband. So sad, really.
