So I've been listening to Audible version of Bloodline and I've really enjoyed it so far... Anyone else been reading it? What have you enjoyed most about it?

One of the things I've found interesting is the Centrist fascination with collecting and fawning over Empire artifacts. (Helms, Force Pikes and such) I can't help but wonder, Is this subtle or not so subtle reference to all of us prop collectors, and prop fans?

the only new star wars cannon book that really felt like straight out st ar wars to me was 'A new Dawn'.

all the others have been boring to terrible. i will give bloodlines a chance, but i think my days of caring about new star wars books are over/.

I really enjoyed the book. I thought the author did a great job capturing Leia's personality and the machinations that drove Leia away from the New Republic rang true to me. My only complaint was that there was no Poe.

how to I purchase and listen to these audio books? I keep hearing about audio books but don't know where to start? is this a app you down load on your phone and then buy the books in the app?

anyone mind pointing me in the direction to start?

Audible.com is great. It's associated with Amazon, and many times if you have the Kindle edition of a book already, you can get the audio at a deeply discounted price (usually between 3.49 - 6.99 instead of $20+). Also, you can listen to it on any device you own: PC, phone, tablet, etc.

I thought Joph Starstreak's character could have easily been Poe Dameron? I liked how they introduced Korr Sella; thought they could have done more with her. The book totally makes the whole republic/resistance thing plausible - that little bit of exposee should have somehow been worked into the TFA opening crawl IMO, it was too confusing without it. Glad it's at least explained somewhere. Han was fairly well written.

I've never really done an audio book before. Are they just one person reading the book aloud? Or is it done with different voice actors, music, and sound effects? I really like stuff like the BBC versions of LOTR and the SW radio dramas. Are they like that?

I think it's more like people collecting Nazi memorabilia after the fall of the Third Reich.

My only complaint was that there was no Poe.

I'm getting my Poe fix in his new comic series. It's also in the 5-0 BTFA range, so filling in what happened not too long prior to the film from a different angle. What I'm hoping to see is more of Hux's late backstory. There have been many hints dropped about him having big shoes to fill, about getting his position thanks to his father, about how young he is to be in said position, and something about being a tragic figure. So yeah, I'm curious.

Most audio books are 1 person narrating, but there are some that have multiple narrators and sometimes full casts. Most of the Star Wars audio books incorporate special effects which usually help with immersion but can sometimes be annoying if they're overbearing.

A word of warning: A narrator can really make or break the experience of an audio book. For example, I generally enjoy the Song of Ice and Fire series and have read them all to this point, but I can't get more than few chapters through the audio of book 1 because the narrator sounds like he's roughly 90 years old and hearing him read Dany's POV of her wedding night to Drogo was seriously squicky.

Hux gets a super-brief mention in Bloodline, one that makes me intensely curious to see more about him as well.

I'm trying to get through Aftermath but god it's a slog. Is this one any better?

I also thought Aftermath was sort of difficult to get through. If Bloodline is anything like her first Star Wars novel, Lost Stars, then it should be a treat - especially after finishing Aftermath.

that was the one to convince me to quit. not only did I get falsley sold (events leading up to Force Awakens my ass)....but..god was it terrible.

I don't think the new cannon is for me. 30 years of books is enough ;o).. i miss the old characters i grew up with.

The audiobook is great! The reader is female, and really good! (Her 3PO could use some work, lol) There is some music and background effects that make it interesting. This is WAY better than the crappie Aftermath. I put it in the top 3 of the new canon. Lords of the Sith, Lost Stars, and Bloodline. Audiobooks is the lazy mans way to go. Perfect for me. Use an Audible app with Amazon or iTunes with iBooks.

I can really imagine some of these being made into animated movies someday.

so what was the secret with vader in the book? i remember hearing there was going to be a big reveal with vader?

Not so much a secret of his, but Leia's parentage getting leaked to the universe at large and her realizing that maybe it wasn't pure evil that made him fall to the dark side, but maybe he could have fallen due to good intentions.

aaahhh, thank you for sharing.

... Yeah, it's just a revealed to everyone else that Luke and Leia are Vader's offspring. Freaks em all out. Guess they hid that bit of info from everyone for the last 24 years since Endor. The politics are well written. A divide between the Centrists ( who want more centralized control) and the Populists (who want more individual planet or systems control) The only problem is you kind of see the same inefficient, polarized, beauracratic bull that took place in the Old Republic. ... Things haven't changed much today. :rolleyes

Yeah, I got burned out on SW books a few years back, and I was hoping that the new cannon and desire to fill in TFA gaps would rekindle the nerd fires within me, but...I've tried three SW novels since Disney took over and haven't been able to finish any of them. It shouldn't be a chore to get through a SW novel :lol

that's why a new dawn was a breath of fresh air. new characters, but read more like something written 20 years ago in the zahn hey day.
i'd give that author another chance.
