Star wars blaster on ebay -real or replica??????

While I cannot comment on the authenticity etc of the items, I am very pleased to see auctions like these as they are as rare as hen's teeth.

Seldom do you see a seller go so much out his way to point out the unknowns, doubts, ambiguities of an item. Usually all one sees is 'This is the real thing folks ... coz I say so ! " :lol

The front of the stormtrooper blaster seems all chewed up as if someone tried to recast a Pugman recast. It is also glossy.
The rebel blaster is intriguing to me but would there have been background casts in the 1st movie( episode 4) just for a brief opening scene?
I am no expert but I kinda thought the lighter recasts started happening in Empire ???

The DH-17 looks like an original or a cast of an original. I am inclined to believe that it is a recast, though because of the deformed endcap. There are numerous casts out there and all I have seen have (pictures of) had such a deformed endcap.
The scope is definitely not original as the screen-used blasters used real scopes, a proper scope rail and different scope rings.
The chipping at the edges look a little bit excessive...

The E-11 looks like one of Pugman's (re)casts of his screen-used blaster, but could be a recast of one of his recasts. Pugman put lamp-plastic like that in his scopes where as the original scopes had real circular reflectors with a denser pattern.
Also, all screen-used blasters were satin black throughout with no metallic detailing, where as this one has been painted gloss black with silver details.

I wish we could see up into the trigger area on the stormtrooper rifle. There are some "tells" from ILM modelshop castings that could determine it's age. ILM re-casted it a couple of times for appearance costumes over the years and for the "cgi updated" re-release of the original movies.
The web behind the trigger makes me think it might be one of those. (it's a very tentative "might", though.)

are you talking about the "ILM 95" blasters? I have one in the garage, they were MGC based if I recall.

Another problem I have with the auctions is the seller said a very respectable prop collector offered him $25,000 for the pair just a few months ago - and he didn't take it ???!!!! He prefers his chances on ebay, where he states he will let the market decide how much they will go for and then adds :" you could own an original blaster for a few hundred dollars? "
I dont know about you guys but if someone offered me $25,000 and THEN I decided to sell, I wouldnt put it on ebay in the hope of getting "a few hundred dollars"
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Profiles in History? I would love to know what they found out regarding these to pull them from their auction last year at the last minute !!!

In a thread on the MPF, someone had contacted the original seller who sold the guns to the one who is now selling them. They are not originals, and the guy selling that knows it.

Whoa. But how do you know that the guy who contacted the original seller was really the original seller? I tried to get in touch with Profiles in History to ask them why they pulled it from the auction and , of course, no answer...

These have been on eBay before, if I remember correctly they were up for sale last fall. One he pulled from auction and the other got a high bid of a couple thousand. I don't remember what price it reached though

Well they didn't sell for much so I guess the end price reflects the authenticity of them. They also look to be re-casts as parts look too rough to me. Then again I'm no expert but something just doesn't sit right with me. I suppose they didn't go for ridiculous money so all's fair.

I don't know the history on them, just passing on what was in the other thread, but apparently some of those guys have followed that seller and in particular those guns and can track them back quite a ways, some of them having personal dealings with him on those weapons. Apparently each time he put them up for sale, the descriptions and back story changes, which is another huge red flag.

Amazing that E-bay can be such a scammers paradise, and that they seemingly let people get away with it even when items are "reported"

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this feed, who helped me decide NOT to go for them . And thanks Theronstang for the info...

Shame you can't see who won them, to notify them of this thread, and what they possibly have it not real :(
