Star Trek XI: Kelvin Phasers (Sporak's kit)

I just finished up the two Kelvin phaser kits from Sporak. Awesome kit, Bill!! I decided to make the P1 detachable using a couple magnets. In the end, I think they came out really nice. It was a lot fun to build, too. Here are some pics.

nice builds!!
would you mind sharing the color / brand paint you used??

Sure ...

Plastikote 1542 *Burnished Silver* which isn't made any more, but any medium silver would do. It was used for the P1, handle, dials, and the thing that sticks out of the nose.

Duplicolor T299 *Dark Shadow Gray* (very recently replaced with BFM0360 / same color name) This was used on the P2.

Duplicolor GS100 *Gold* Used on the rear vent/port (whatever it is!), trigger and end of the handle.

After the P1 was painted silver it was dusted with the Dark Shadow Gray.

It was the phaser used by ship in the beginning of STXI by Kirk's dad's ship. It wasn't seen on screen but was displayed with the props from the movie a while back. Very cool design.

Ewwww, that's nice!

If that design didn't remind me of some kind of bug creature from SG-1 I'd have
to get one!

Great job on the build....is it heavy with the metal parts?

EDIT:

This is the bug it reminds me of...from SG-1: Atlantis

The two metal pieces probably weigh a few ounces together but it's still a pretty hefty piece, nonetheless.

I think the more heft the better, it looks like it should be real-world heavy.

I am borderline on wanting one....but that would open the gambit to other XI props
and so far, I've avoided that trap!

Nicely done Erik! I wish they would have stuck with that design throughout the film instead of using that chrome plated, nozzle spinning, p.o.s. they went with.

I have to agree...I really dislike that version. The Kelvin version looks
like a weapon, not a flashy toy like the phaser used throughout the rest of the film and with all that lighting, they did not need chrome!

If there was a poster of the evolution of the Trek phaser the Kelvin would fit right in. The Trek XI phaser just seems out of place. I really hope they do a redesign for the next film.
