Because MR is doing the Assault Phaser, I was wondering if anyone know what type of communicator was use in "Final Frontier" or if any one has any pictures of the communicator that was use. I'm thinking about doing a Landing party display. Any Info would help. Thanks.

And Yes I know Star Trek V is the worst Trek movie, But I like to pair up my Phasers and Communicators.

I've been thinking of this prop recently too, coz the Star Trek V comms are damn cool looking!!:cool I've never seen a fanmade replica before but during the release of Trek V, there was an officially licensed walkie-talkie version made available. They are no way accurate, but they can give you a sense of what the actual prop looks like.

Here are some pics of the walkie-talkie sets from a recent Ebay auction:

They were the same comms as STIII, I thought (except with addition of a light shining on the grill in certain shots.

The Trek 5 communicator is essentially the same as the Trek 3 communicator, but it has the addition of a big light in the center (to illuminate the flipgrid when open), plus the control buttons are a bit different. Still the Trek 5 has the same flipgrid and body shape as the Trek 3.

Here's a Trek V that was sold by Profiles in History

The Trek III comms just had a strip of chrome tape, I'd guess it's the same on this one.

Dunno why the Profiles comm is painted silver, since the props seen in the film seem to be black. :rolleyes

Did Rich Coyle work with Gregory Jein on the props for this movie? Maybe he could chime in?

I have a casting of that top part.

Take a look !

It wass even in that LOVELY yellow resin the FX industry loves SO Much!
I was gonna convert one of the ST3 coms, but I never bought an extra one.

Is it wrong of me to think that one of those calculator comms would be a good base for this?
It does have that squared off look to it.

Of course, the flip grill would be something of a pain to solder!

I'd say with MR coming out with the Assault Phaser a run for this comm would be in order. It would make for a great companion from a display standpoint.

I would LOVE to see a run of these. Just need some grayhill buttons and whatever the 2 up and down buttons inside!

Count me in!

Just a note, from the screengrabs, they look a lot more palm sized compared to the TOS comms. Kinda like a Motorola Razr.

I have one of the Coyle replicas of the Trek 3 communicator, which is cast from an original prop I think. In any case, the Trek 3/5 comm appears to be just a bit smaller than the TOS comm (or at least smaller than this replica kit I got a few years ago, probably an HMS).

Thanks! That's actually two different comms in the photos, the gold-midplated one is a dummy comm. The one next to the tricorder has the flashing LEDs.

I no longer have the dummy, but the working one continues to cheer me up on sad days. :$
